The Cerro Plano Community was the first one founded within what now is called the Monte Verde District. This community is located right next to the famous and original Monteverde, a community founded back on April 19th, 1951 by a group of Quakers from Fairhope, Alabama. Some of the first kids from these Quaker neighbors and friends actually went to school in Cerro Plano because we had the only public school in miles. There are 7 small communities in the district and Cerro Plano is the oldest. Hotel los Jardines de Monteverde was created and it is managed by one of the original Costa Rican families that founded the Cerro Plano community, The Alvarez Rodriguez. Our Family Hotel is close to the Cerro Plano Public school and two other private bilingual schools. We are also about 5 minutes away, on foot, from the Monteverde Community. This means that we are located in a small rural community with many attractions around us but also next door to Monteverde and the famous cloud forest. Our staff is very friendly and always willing to assist all our guests just the same way that we, The Alvarez Rodriguez Family, like to provide the best service possible and also enjoy meeting visitors from all around the world and love sharing nature, our culture, our community, and history with them. We are doing our very best to offer environmentally friendly activities for every visitor and assisting them with reservations and any needed arrangement. Our small establishment is also an eco-friendly hotel doing its part to protect our section of the Three Wattled Bellbird Biological Corridor and its inhabitants.

I enjoyed my stay here. Our room was tiny with 1 full and 1 double bed and 2 side tables cati-cornered to each other but little room for anything else. Our mini fridge was placed on a shelf above the single bed which was kind of a strange place but i was thankful for having it. The bathroom was acceptable but just. The room was clean and we had a window. We saw 1 giant spider but it dissappeared suddenly. No wifi in the room. Thank god it did not rain as our room was a few buildings down the road from the office. The breakfast buffet was not too bad. This hotel had quit a few very young people in a tour group. So some loud talking. If you have no car, you can take a short walk downtown down the hills. Coming up the hill I did by taxi.
We could hear the shower in another room and someone singing. The wind was really strong one night.

Hotel Jardines de Monteverde is a wonderful Hotel. The location was simply breathtaking, surrounded by towering trees and exotic wildlife. The eco-friendly ethos of the hotel resonated with me, as did their commitment to sustainability. From the delicious meals sourced from local ingredients to the eco-conscious practices throughout the property, every aspect of my stay felt mindful and eco-conscious. I left feeling rejuvenated and inspired by the beauty of nature.

As this hotel was arranged by a tour company while travelling throughout CR, this would not be our choice of accommodations. However as we booked in November 2019 for travel in February 2020, we were advised this was all that was left.

The staff were very nice, helpful in providing directions to restaurants and galleries.

Breakfast was basic.

The hotel, while having many nooks and crannies and a variety of rooms throughout, it really would benefit from some serious upgrading.

The furniture in the sitting areas were stained and had cigarette burns.

Our room was fifty shades of purple. Dusty and extremely small. You could barely turn around in the bathroom.

Passive solar was used to heat the water. Of the 3 days spent at this hotel, I only had 1 warm shower even though we were advised to let the water run for ~ 5 minutes.

As mentioned, lots of opportunity to make this hotel into at least a 3 star

We were booked here as part of our EF Tours group. What a complete disappointment. The Adult leaders were put in fairly clean but small rooms. The kids (36) and 4 other adults were put in a completely different building, that was run down. Our room (2 adult females) consisted of a sliding glass door entry, no screen, no windows, no fan. there was a double bed and a twin. Most disturbing was the black mold on the walls and musty smell of mold. About 5 minutes after entering our adult companions came from the lower level. They had a hole in the ceiling in the bathroom right above the toilet, about the size of the toilet. Also mold in their room. At that point I decided I wasnt staying there. Fast forward, the kids also had disaster rooms filled with bugs, hair in the bedding, mold on the walls and again, sliding glass doors, some that were clearly not secure. After talks with management and EF Tours, we were moved to a "family" room, that was at least acceptable, more like a cabin, with a king bed, a queen bed and a couch. It was barely acceptable for the night. We ended up taking 4 of the girls in with us, because of their room conditions. The other adults moved into another family room and their rooms were given to some of the students. Unacceptable for any hotel in any country to have black mold and unsecure doors. The pictures on the website are deceiving. Only the "better" of the rooms are pictured. Not somewhere I would recommend anyone stay, especially with children. We were originally supposed to stay 2 nights there. We reluctantly stayed the first night because it was too late to book such a large group in another hotel, but we moved to a much nicer place the second night.

We have been to Costa Rica many times in the past 15 years and are not new to Costa Rica travel and accommodations. At $120 per night, this hotel is grossly overpriced. The rooms smelled of mold and mildew. I'm a backpacker and have done wilderness camping and I was hesitant to step on the floor in my bare feet. The bathroom in the lobby was filthy with many long hairs laying on the floor and obviously hadn't been cleaned in several days. We were scheduled for two nights, but left after one. The breakfast buffet was good and the bar tender makes a great Mojito.

The rooms were tastefully decorated and offered breathtaking views of the surrounding cloud forest. Each morning, we were treated to a delicious breakfast featuring local flavors and fresh produce.
What truly sets this hotel apart is the attention to detail and personalized service. Whether it was arranging transportation or providing recommendations for nearby attractions, the staff was always ready to assist with a smile.

Dulce it’s a guide that gives night walks on the trails of the hotel, she’s knows a lot. I didn’t expect to see so many animals so close to town.

The rooms are very comfortable and nice, surrounded by nature you get a lot of visits from squirrels, colibris, butterflies and pacas.

Food - the breakfast and dinner were excellent and the staff were both friendly and helpful . I would highly recommend this destination for anyone visiting the Monte Verde region. The hotel is situated in a salubrious location and the beds and pillows were very comfortable

Can hardly call this hotel, I hesitate to write this as the staff are doing their best with what they can but it was absolutely horrendous.

We stayed at this hotel as part of our trip with Exoticca. We arrived and the staff explained this is not a five star hotel but a small family run business so we tried to keep this in mind. We were then taken to our ‘room’ down a long private road with residential houses. I don’t think you can even call it a room it was a pre-fab structure with a glass sliding door as the door to the room. Inside it looked like it was falling apart, there were dead flies in the light, picture frames, on the floor and on the bedding. We decided to try it as it was only for a couple of nights.

Our ‘room’ had the private driveway behind it where motorbikes were driving up and down loudly till the early hours of the morning, you are also opposite the main road so also have that noise, the dogs in the neighbouring gardens also barked all night.

Our room ‘door’ did not shut properly which made us feel incredibly unsafe, not that it really mattered as someone could just smash the glass anyway if they wanted to break in, we had to stuff the door with towels to stop insects coming in.

Due to it backing on to residential properties and the poor quality of the room it regularly sounded like people were trying to get into our room. At one point it sounded like someone was in our bathroom. We also had animals crawling, scratching and running inside the walls and on the roof all night

We could not stay another night and contacted our tour operator to ask to move us and they encouraged us to speak to reception first before moving. They did offer us another room actually in the hotel which made us question why we weren’t put there in the first place as two female guests on our own. We declined the offer and booked elsewhere, when we returned to pick up our bags, what we presume was the owner was there. She asked us why we were leaving and we told her that we felt incredibly unsafe in our room and she laughed in our face and said this is what you get when you stay in the Costa Rican rainforest. I can tell you after being in the Costa Rican rainforest for the ten days prior to this, this is not what you get and we had not experienced this at all. You expect noise from animals etc but even in the middle of the rainforest in a wooden lodge we didn’t experience this. You also expect the room to be clean and safe.
