I liked the whimsical decor and the setting, but the rooms in the main building were dark, dingy and having 2 poorly fastened doors opening to the outdoors, it's not safe. On our first night, a strange man was standing outside our door for half an hour (while we were sleeping) and then proceeded to shine a flashlight inside our... More

I traveled to Monteverde to capture the serenity and beauty that this little mountain community has to offer, so La Colina was the perfect location for me to stay. The lodge recently took on new management not long before I arrived, which must have had something to do with me having an experience quite different from recent reviews I've read.... More

We stayed at La Colina lodge as a big group of 21 and the way we were treated was very disappointing. For example we were given the complete wrong opening times for the kitchen to have breakfast so we waited over an hour just for nobody to show up, nothing was done about the showers not functioning properly, our rooms... We chose La Colina as we could find no other accommodation in Santa Elena, and it was probably the worst mistake of our trip. The beds were full of dead bugs, the shower broke and started spewing boiling hot water from the wall and they decided to leave three horses in the area that some of our group were camping... More

We picket La Colina because it was cheap and we only needed a place to sleep, nothing fancy. But the place was dirty, the bed was full of dead bugs, the shower was in terrible shape, we even had to shower wearing sandals!! At night the door that leads to the rooms remains unlocked, terrible terrible place!!

Stayed with family - young kids and older adults and had a fantastic time. We received great advise on booking attractions in the area. Rooms were comfy, but not elaborate. The other building (not the lodge) has a wonderful reading room and adjoining yoga room with beautiful sunlight. We were hoping that the vegan restaurant would be open - but... More

Stayed for two nights while visiting the reserve, located between town and the park, it's a nice and quiet place. Great breakfast and a cool yoga studio to use as you like. Kimberly was lovely and helpful with area info. Simple and low key, would stay again.

La Colina Lodge is a campy/rustic place with a lot of... artistic detail and eh, "kumbaya" sort of decor. I'd describe it as halfway between a bare-bones hostel and hotel. Photos elsewhere on the web don't match reality (anymore). They host daily (not free) yoga classes by outside instructors (we were not invited or told much about yoga there). It's... More

The location was perfect for us, close to all the best places in Monteverde: Curi Cancha reserve, cheese factory, Casem, Café Monteverde, Stella Bakery... but this place seriously needs TLC. It was certainly a nice place at one point but it's falling apart. Beautiful yoga room and nice living room. The staff seems to change a lot. The guy who... More

La Colina Lodge was probably a charming place once, but has been seriously neglected since and is a depressing, ramshackle place to stay. The website looks good, reality does not. A real pity, with some serious renovations, cleaning and gardening it could be really nice. If you are on a budget, go to a hostel in Santa Elena.
