The hotel was beautiful and clean, but what made our stay so special was not the accommodations, it was Carlos, our utterly fantastic tour guide. Carlos is a true superstar - He is supremely knowledgable about all things Costa Rica. From the plant life, to the bird life, to mammals and insects, Carlos was a walking encyclopedia. I learned more...

Dear Drew L, Thank you for sharing how much you enjoyed our Naturalist Guide, Carlos Vasquez. Up until recently, Carlos worked as a free lance guide in Monteverde, but we recently have hired him to be with us full time and we are thrilled. Carlos was born in the city of Quepos, on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica....

very nice location with forrest all around, few short trails on a property, "resident" sloth on trees right outside of our windows, friendly, cheerful and generous staff, turndown service, very nice breakfast included, clean rooms that also do a good job of keeping creatures out....what more can one ask in Monteverde?

Dear lexa, It sounds like you really took advantage of everything both the lodge and the area have to offer. Even with so many activities in the area, we really encourage our guests to plan on spending a morning or afternoon in the gardens. We have several places where you can read, meditate, bird watch, journal or just be with...

Wow, this was a wonderful stay and we were sorry that we couldn't stay longer. Everything was as promised (and the pictures weren't lying). The staff was super friendly and responsive, the rooms were cosy, well-furbished and clean! They also offer free Wi-Fi and we had no trouble with the reception (maybe it was because our room was underneath the...

Dear Leia B, I see you enjoyed the lodge grounds, and I want to encourage people that are considering a stay with us to plan on spending and hour or two in the Butterfly Garden and at the Hummingbird Gallery, then a morning or an afternoon at our outdoor heated pool! The pool has a view of the forest, and...

Excellent place to disconnect from the stress of big cities. Well managed place, staff is super attentive and helpful. Location is amazingly convenient and the food at the restaurant is delicious. They have their own butterfly garden, and tour options at the front desk. Prices are pretty good for what you get. I recommend this place 100%.

My wife, Erica, and I stayed from November 27 - December 1, 2015. We came to Costa Rica for our honeymoon and Monteverde Lodge & Gardens was our first real taste of Costa Rica. It also happened to be our favorite spot by the the end of our trip. Erica and I are quiet and shy people who like to...

The staff is over the top kind. The drive up was painful, but that's just the mountains in a 3rd world country ... everyone has the same experience. Wireless when you need it, spectacular garden and view. Rooms were clean and unique, with a woods feel. Could use a little updating, just my thought. Now the food : wow, their...

Dear Jarrazola, Of the many things that you wrote the one we liked most was, “The staff is over the top kind” and “wow, their little restaurant is amazing. Great presentation, flavor and selection with breakfast included”. I am very glad you found our Lodge to be amazing and unique. We like to refer to our ambiance as “rustic elegance.”...

Unbelievable property with gracious and accommodating staff. Rooms are a bit dated but well kept and clean. We had some of the best food on our trip here at the lodge. Excellent wait staff. The grounds are gorgeous, you could spend the day just exploring them. I would highly recommend this hotel!

Dear Kristi Z, Thank you for the kind words. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay, and our hotel grounds. We got lucky with a low season deal booking two nights and getting the third free otherwise it's likely we would have stayed elsewhere as this hotel normally would be way out of budget. So glad we snagged that deal! We were welcomed with fresh fruit drinks at check in which were great after the Jeep-boat-Jeep trip from La Fortuna....

It's probably the most expensive one in town but sure worth the money. Rooms are relatively small but nice, clean and comfortable. Hotel has a restaurant with decent food. But it's only a short walk to town and you can get a lot more varieties of local food. The hotel ground is nicely maintained, with hummingbirds buzzing around.
