Our Forest View room was large with a balcony looking right into the forest. The restaurant was really good - lots of choices, good food, reasonable prices. The grounds are a highlight - we saw agoutis, white faced monkeys, a coatimundi and even an armadillo, just walking around

This is a gorgeous hotel. The grounds are truly magnificent. We had a balcony room overlooking the forest and saw armadillos outside the room in the stream! You can sit on the balcony and scan for moneys (we saw one in the 3 days we were there, but it was the rainy season).

Dear Yona300, Thank you for sharing how much you enjoyed your stay and the lodge. You're right about the Balcony Rooms, these are our guests favorite room because you can sit on your balcony with morning coffee and the toucans, bellbirds and monkeys often give you a show. Night time balcony sitting is also special, on clear nights the stars will entertain you. If you are unable to get a Balcony Room (reserve early) you may want to consider our Superior Garden Room, with direct access to the garden and small patio where the wildlife and stars are equally active. Next would be the Forest View Downstairs Rooms, they have exactly the same layout as the Balcony rooms but with a bay window instead of a balcony. These are more affordable, have views of the forest under story where you will often see monkeys, agoutis, and Emerald toucanets. Finally our most affordable option are our Garden Rooms. They are quite small but cozy, all have King beds, they have direct access to the garden with a small terrace. Please do visit us again. Vacation Time is Precious! Monteverde Lodge is a small hotel located a 5 minute walk from town. The grounds are beautiful and quiet. Many birds to see, if you are patient. Even an armadillo can be seen frequently. Our room overlooked a small stream and many trees and flowers. There is no TV, or even an

Dear 544JimR, We're delighted to hear how much you enjoyed the lodge and very sorry that the pool was closed during your stay with us. It needed technical maintenance but it's reopen now. It sounds like you were a great fit for the lodge, you would probably really enjoy our sister lodge in Tortuguero National Park, the Tortuga Lodge & Gardens. Hopefully you can visit both lodges on your next visit! Vacation Time is Precious! Jenn Dunn Guest Satisfaction Specialist

Dear ProMetalSales, Thank you for reviewing your experience with us on TripAdvisor. Since you and your family enjoyed your stay at Monteverde Lodge so much, we would like to recommend for your next visit to Costa Rica our sister property Tortuga Lodge & Gardens, also featured here on Trip Advisor, a “rustic elegant” experience where you’ll be welcomed with the same level of personalized service and exceptional food that you enjoyed in Monteverde, but in a lowland tropical forest this time. Whether in the rain forest or the cloud forest, our staff will make their best effort to provide you with the attention you deserve during your vacation time Vacation Time is Precious! The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, the food and cocktail were FANTASTIC. The daily cornbread with coffee was SO good. I spent a good deal of time in the butterfly garden, in the meditation/yoga area, and the covered jungle patio just soaking in the insane beauty.

Dear ProMetalSales, Thank you for reviewing your experience with us on TripAdvisor. Our lodge sits on one side of a ravine, a creek runs below, it’s surrounded by forest. Over 20 years ago the lodge was built on what up to that point had been a pasture. We set out to bring the cloud forest to our back door and we succeeded. The lodge is surrounded by very mature gardens, with native plants from the area, beyond that garden is the cloud forest. We recommend at least a half day to explore the gardens, take a dip in the solar heated pool, have your lunch al fresco and perhaps slip into a hammock with a good book and a craft beer OR schedule a garden massage. HI Nancy, Yes, sure, our receptionists will help you to book the activities you like when you arrive. You can see the list of tours that we offer in the Monteverde Lodge & Gardens website, just go to the Activities tab and you'll find them there. For a night tour I would recommend El Refugio Twilight Tour. The night walk is a two hour walk on both flat and uphill trails. Some steep sections have steps and handrails. You will have the opportunity to see nocturnal animals such as olingos, kinkajous, two-toed sloths and possums, tarantulas, if you’re lucky perhaps a snake, during the rainy season some species of frogs. It’s not uncommon to see migrant and resident birds sleeping and you will only view them with flashlights handled by the nature guide, so as not to disturb their sleep. Regardless of what you see, the experience of walking in the forest after dark is unique. See you soon!

Hi Katrina, Mosquitoes are normally not a problem in Monteverde, but that doesn't mean that you won't see bugs. For mosquitoes, the best advice is to be prepared, wear long pants and sleeves and apply buy spray twice a day. You will likely find that you don't need these precautions, but it's best to be prepared. I hope this helps. Natalie Ewing Director Marketing & Guest Satisfaction

If you're looking for hike, Curri-Cancha by itself may too short, the trail is about 2 miles. There is the possibility of combining the Monteverde Reserve and Curri-Cancha which adds another 3 miles to your hike and gives you the opportunity to hike in slightly different habitats. We offer it with a Naturalist Guide and a box lunch from Monteverde Lodge & Gardens.
