Surround yourself with nature. "El Bosque" means "The Forest" We are a small family hotel nestled in a 23-acre private forest. That's why we are quiet, peaceful and excellent for a retreat to connect with nature. We're exceptionally friendly and our rooms are simple but reasonably priced. Our location is very convenient (4.5 stars in TripAdvisor): -The original Monteverde Reserve is only 3km (1.9 miles) away -We have two restaurants within our property -The Monteverde Coffee Center, a Wholefood Store and CASEM (Women Artisan's Cooperative) are just a 2-minutes walk -Stella (the most famous bakery in Monteverde) is a 3-minutes walk -Cafe Bure (Argentinian Coffee Shop / Restaurant featuring an astounding view to the Nicoya's Gulf) is a 5-minutes walk -The Curicancha Reserve and the Monteverde Cheese Factory are a 10-minute walk

Such a nice hotel! In the woods, perfect service, yummy breakfast and super nice employes!
Rooms were big and nice. Everything was clean. We made a night tour with Ian and it was great! Saw bats, birds, insects and monkeys!

We visited during the rainy season, when the area gets fewer visitors. The room had all the essentials, the double bed was quite comfortable. It's located between Santa Elena and Monteverde towns and within easy walking distance of Curi-Cancha Reserve. We visited the reserve both

What a big surprise to find hummingbirds, hummingbird moths and manaqien birds litterally right in front of our cabin. The howling monkeys roar early in de morning. Agouti's walk around at dawn. Lovely to enjoy nature like this.
The cabins are very simple. But the beds are fine

Hi Wybe, Thanks for your suggestion. Will definitely add it to our improvement plan in Sept. I think you summarize our place right on the spot. We’re a very simple place, but totally surrounded by nature like no other hotel in the area (and very few from what I’ve seen in our country). Cheers, Daniel Lalinde

The hotel is very convenient in relation to sights and restaurants and yet in the middle of the forest. Unfortunately, the bungalows are really poorly built and decayed. The own "trail" is also expired and unsecured. Worst of all was the attempt to us with the breakfast (the extr

Hi Ralph, Thank you for your feedback. We are currently in a project to improve our trails, however, it must be said that this is the first time (look at all other reviews) that someone is not delighted with them. Either way, appreciate the feedback and will see how it can be used to improve them. As for the rooms, they are simple (as advertised) but very good in terms of relation to what you paid for them. Keep in mind you had a full family, so factor that in with the amount you paid for your three nights and I would be really surprised if you showed me another property that could offer a similar deal and much more surprised if it was better than what you paid for in our area. Same applies with breakfast, in your case, you had continental breakfast included and you also had the option to add to it the typical breakfast for a very afforable price (not just in our area, but overall in Costa Rica). Would be interesting to hear how it has gone to you in other areas of country in this respect... Nonetheless, we will use this input in our yearly review (September) to analyze how we can improve, so thanks for the feedback. Regards, Daniel Lalinde

This is an eco lodge, which is clean, well maintained but basic. Wi-fi is good, but there is no air con, TV, or even hot tap (the shower has hot water) but then the idea is not to spend time inside. There are plenty of birds, butterflies etc right outside the door and the nature

Hi, Your hotel looks and sounds great, and we have one question: We are arriving to San Jose airport at 11:00pm. Is there an overnight bus or transport from the airport to your hotel, or would we have to wait until the next day to travel to Monteverde? Thank you in advance.
Hi Kenneth, I can help you arrange a private driver to wait for you at the gate of the airport and bring you here savely. Feel free to reach out to me directly vai my website (see link in our TripAdvisor page) to help you with this. Cheers, Daniel Lalinde Hotel El Bosque

Are the rooms air conditioned?
Hi Joel, We're an Ecofriendly hotel. Our rooms do not have A/C but they do have big windows (with big screens), that you can open to let the fresh air flow. The average temperature in MV is 22C degrees which makes our weather one of the best in the country :-) Does this help? Cheers, Daniel Lalinde

Hello! We are looking to stay a few nights with you in February. We just wanted to know the attractions near by. Are you near the cloud forest reserve? Thank you so much !
Hola MandaBryant ;-) Feb is usually the busiest month, but I sure hope we happen to have rooms available for the dates you are looking for ;-) Overall, there are many things to do in Monteverde (you can learn about some of them directly in our website). These include off-site activities such as Zip Lining, Hanging Bridges over the canopy of the Cloud Forest, Horseback Riding, ATVs, etc. Additionally, we have two on-site activities: Morning Bird's Watching Tour Guided Night Tour Feel free to see more info in our website where you can also go ahead and make a reservation with us to ensure the best rates out there ;-) Cheers amigos, Daniel Lalinde
