My family and I stayed at El Establo about a week ago. As we were being dropped off at the hotel by Gray Line, our driver said, we were staying at the nicest hotel in the Monteverde area. It's a beautiful, rustic looking hotel with buildings built into the mountainside. We were in the 500 building, probably about half way...

This very expensive hotel has some positive features, notably the lovely property and the great views. But the inconveniences and the oddities outweigh the positives. The property is located on a steep slope, so that if you are an older person (my wife and I are 65+), it is difficult to get around. The only option is to wait for...

I guess this place is more about couples as having to use a bus to get around the buildings and areas of the spread out resort would not be ideal for children, that's not to say there's nothing for children to do as there is two swimming pools, a playground, sports pitches and a few animals. Having said the above...

There is no doubt the view is what works here. But it all ends there. Buildings are located on a very steep and long hill. It would take a serious hike with water and many rests to climb up to your room. The only path is the main road filled with nasty smelling diesel shuttles. To go anywhere you need...

Stayed here for 3 nights, lucky we got a room in the 300 series up from the restaurant. We were actually surprised as we got a bedroom with a loft. Very very nice view and very nice room. Breakfast was included, pretty decent for the area. About a 10 minute walk to central town, lots of restaurants to choose from,...

Family of 5 stayed here for two days. The weather is awesome as is the view and location of the facility. Rustic and spartan, but clean and well maintained. No air conditioning but it is NOT needed. The evenings are cool and the girls and I wore light weight jackets. The evening of our arrival brought us a coati that...

agree with another reviewer that maybe not a 5 star for the states but likely so for costa rica or the rain forest. the location is a bit isolated although there is a little town close by if you are located at the 300's or below. The view is incredible and loved the rustic look and feel. we had a...

Our first few nights in Costa Rica were at the El Establo. In fact as I'm writing this, I'm drinking a beer at the upper pool area! The place is great, but to clarify a few prior reviewer comments: 1) It's not necessarily a 5 star resort in typical US standards. It's probably 5 star for Monteverde, but it lacks...

To go anywhere, you needed a shuttle, which could take up to ten minutes. We were in the 600s - too far to walk. The paper thin walls, the slam of the doors on your corridor when you were sleeping... all add up to disaster. You could hear everyone on your floor, leaving, coming in. The room was small and...

This hotel was a very pleasant place to stay, especially after a less desirable hotel the night before during our tour. The lighting in the bathroom could have been better. We stayed in room 302, which had 2 king beds one in a loft which was very comforting to a mom traveling with 2 kids. We wish this type of...
