Positives 1. Great views from restaurant and Superior rooms 2. Wonderful changing light at different times of day 3. Services from the local Costa Rica team was excellent (restaurant, juice bar and reception) 4. Food was very good Negatives 1. The two American staff did just not work culturally for me and my wife. Both very arrogant and seems to...

Lodge/chalet style hotel close to the Cloud Forest and Hanging Bridges, 4km from St Elena with a lovely restaurant including terrace where the 4.30-5.30pm happy hour is a must do. Breakfast is a la carte only (no buffet) but there is a good choice and everything is freshly prepared. Rooms are spacious with an excellent rain shower (no bath though),...

What a brilliant hotel - both my husband and I loved it here and we won't hesitate to come back again if we're ever in Monteverde. Their ethos and commitment to the environment is commendable. The Swiss-style chalet is oozing with ambience, class and a really friendly welcome. The staff were all amazing and couldn't do enough to help when...

We stayed here for three nights with 3 kids (5, 7, 12), my wife and the mother in law. The hotel has a really chilled/relaxed atmosphere and views to die for. Rooms are relatively simple but the restaurant and bar area are stunning. Local tours are widely available - the nature tour of the rain forest was simply amazing with...

Loved our stay at Hotel Belmar, an exceptional eco-lodge. Most of all loved birding with Christian Mena, the birding guide the hotel arranged for us. We went with him to the Curi Cancha Reserve and saw an amazing number of bird species. It is very close to the Belmar and not as crowded. Christian was a fabulous guide. He was...

Intimate feeling hotel with unique old-world feeling rooms (Can only speak for the chalet side). We especially enjoyed the jacuzzi tub in the room and morning coffee on our terrace. The setting is phenomenal. The restaurant was just as delicious and fresh as everyone says it is. The delicious cocktails and wine selection impressed us too. The dedicated staff will...

We visited with our 2 young boys aged 9 and 6 for a 3 night stay . It's not really a family hotel , they advertise that there are no TVs and no pool but we knew that and had taken that into account. The standard room was pleasant and clean with a lovely small balcony . There is a...

As others have remarked, this hotel has an unusual appearance. There is nothing Costa Rican about it; it looks like a building you'd find in the Austrian Alps in the 1930s. We had a Sunset Room which was large with good views, enabling us to see lots of birds. The toiletries were excellent. But it was very hot in the...

We had very high hopes but were sadly disappointed. The room that we had needed a wind shield as it was impossible to sit out as plates and glasses were blown off the table. There should have been instructions on the use of the shower and bath and free bottles of still water should have been available. There was a...

We stayed here during our honeymoon in 2012. We actually visited 3 locations in Costa Rica and Monteverde was our favorite. This hotel is very nice and cozy. They greeted us with welcome drinks. Perfect after our long drive up the steep hills. The room was immaculate and the view was amazing. Very short drive into town from the hotel....
