This hotel sits in its own extensive grounds on a hillside with a good view of the surrounding area. We were able to sit and watch the bird life from a bench in the hotel gardens. The gardens include a dry river walk, where we found plenty of birds including a toucan. Other toucans could be seen in the distance...

We stayed here for two nights of our Costa Rican holiday, we had room no. 12 the room was wood panelled with two double beds. Our room looked out onto beautiful gardens and the gulf of Nicosia, we sat for ages outside our room watching the birds flying between the trees, saw Toucans a couple of times. There is a...

The Fonda Vela is located in a very remote area near the entrance of the Monteverde National Park. The grounds are nice and wooded. The rooms are very spacious and done up with very nice hardwoods on the floor & ceilings. No Wifi in the rooms, but it is available in the restaurant. If you have the free breakfast as...

Family owned and operated for over 30 years, this hotel is located on what was originally the family dairy farm. The hotel and restaurants are constructed from some of Costa Rica's most beautiful and precious hardwoods. The wood adds comfort and warmth to the rooms in the tranquil setting amongst the trees and fauna of the incredibly serene rainforest. The...

This place is like a resort on top of a mountain. The location is outstanding. I stood outside one night and the clouds were crossing through the hotel, and while you could see clearly to the towns below the mountain, the clouds above would wisp away in small pieces, cut from the main storm by the wind off of the...

Wonderful hotel in a peaceful setting. Waking up to the chattering birds was a delight. Gorgeous views from our balcony on the 2nd floor. The food was incredible and the service was exceptional. Our room, a junior suite, was large and very comfortable. Can't wait to come back.

This is the best hotel we have ever been in. Essentially you are living in a large natural park, only 1 km from the Cloud Forest reserve. We saw from our window all bunch of birds and monkeys jumping on the trees, without even stepping out. Our room had a large - from wall to wall and from floor to...

The Hotel Fonda Vela is a very nice place to stay. The help there is very friendly and the rooms are quite large. The bed was average in comfort and the shower rooms where a little compressed and the water temperature did vary somewhat. Neither of these issues were big problems but they did make the stay not perfect. There...

Spent two nights at Fonda Vela - very, very comfortable - big spacious, beautiful rooms with incredible storage - if you were staying for several nights, no problem unpacking everything! Very lovely grounds to walk - great pool / rec area (with pool and ping-pong tables). Beautiful dining room - food very good (we only ate breakfast and lunch there)....

This hotel is very nice and 'dies the job'. The surrounds are very nice and give great opportunity for spotting various animals. Our room was very spacious and I particularly liked the 'sunroom feel' near the windows. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful with organising tours etc. the food at the restaurant was very good. However I...
