We stayed three nights here and loved it. The grounds are beautiful and all the rooms are well spaced out so you feel a sense of space. The views are amazing. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Pool is a good size and there's a nice jacuzzi. Restaurant is good, hearty breakfast and lovely meals. Good happy hour too! Nothing... More

Short and to the point: This 'hotel' has no security. We had $418.00 taken from our room safe during our two day stay. $120 of it in US twenties (which was the big giveaway since we hadn't used any of our US currency yet!) No proof, money gone. Nothing can be done...Kinda ruins anything good about this place... Keep your... More

This hotel is a jewel. It would be a wonderful hotel for a destination wedding or family/friend get together. It is located very close to the Monteverde Cloud Forest. It is basically in the same forest. They have obviously remodeled it to keep up with the times, yet it still has a wonderful cabin feeling. The grounds are manicured beautifully.... More

I am not going to waste my time reviewing this property and unfair OWNER! Instead I will copy and paste my text and email upon returning home. We also spent a good portion of the day we were to leave Montverde to go back to the hotel to speak to the owner after he called us at Hotel El Bosque,... More

Having left the warm humidity of the Osa Peninsula we arrived in the cool humidity of Monteverde. We shared a family room with large picture windows overlooking the gardens. The food & service were excellent. We had a tour of the Monteverde National Park where we were lucky enough to see Quetzals, nesting wrens & humming birds and howler monkeys... More

We stayed here 4 nights and had a nice room with a private 2nd story balcony and great view from it and our windows with lots of bird watch opportunities right from our bed. We were shown initially to an awful ground floor room with 2 levels. Up some steep stairs on the second level was a small bed which... More

Upon our arrival, we were pleasently pleased with the welcome we received at the front desk. Jorge was wonderful to speak with and provided much information about the property, the trails on the property and surrounding area. We had a junior suite (#34) for our family of 4. We had plenty of space and view was lovely. Do not believe... More

This hotel is a true oasis -- beautiful, tranquil grounds less than 2km from the Monteverde Reserve and a $8 cab ride to the town of St. Elena. The rooms are spacious and the best beds of our 2 week stay in Costa Rica. The front office staff were extremely helpful in booking cabs and arranging excursions for a night... More

We stayed here two nights with our tour group, so we did not pick our room. We had a very large room which had lots of wood, but seemed dated somehow (bedding and curtains, perhaps). There was no AC (which is okay, except there were also no screens on the windows either so we closed the windows and by morning... More

Fonda Vela is a ways out from Santa Elena so might be tricky without a car. You could walk to the clump of businesses with Stella's Bakery and the market there though. They have very nice rooms, lovely landscaping and a beautiful [covered] pool area.
