Room was very large with an amazing view. The hotel is literally the closest you could be to the Monteverde cloud forest reserve. Everything was very clean and the restaurant food was good. The beds were very comfortable and had lots of layers of blankets which was good because it can get cold at night. The breakfast had limited options.
We experienced the best of Monteverde accommodations when considering location, room comfort, cleanliness, accommodating staff and cost. Our room (#17) was a fantastic room with a seating area overlooking the cloud forest, two king beds, shower/toilet and sink. This is Monteverde, electricity is at a premium, so don’t expect the coffee maker, in room refrigerator or a lot of options to plug in our devises. We ate breakfast twice and dinner once on the grounds and thoroughly enjoyed the food and service (thanks Maria), and the Happy Hour(s) were just that, as we enjoyed talking with the staff as they practiced their English and we our Spanish. English is easily understood and used throughout the compound if you accept it is not their first language. The hotel will book you into any of the attractions around (get Rodrigo Solano to guide you in the cloud forest) and arrange transportation if necessary. You’re going to be outside of town, but Monteverde itself doesn’t have a lot of shops and you really need to go to Santa Elena if you want to hang out with other tourists. The staff does not expect tips, but we provided some to the staff as they were so good.…
Not the nicest of the hotels in this area. It is very close to the national park and the Hummingbird Garden Cafe. Our room was large and had views into the gardens. It had a damp smell to it and not 100% clean. Staff very helpful and moved us to another room on the same floor which also smelt damp and not 100% clean either. The food was very average but the staff made up for the unimpressive hotel.
Very friendly staff, good rooms although some of them very cold. Went there at the end of our tour and we were very surprised by the staff who were for once trying to speak English or French. Very good meal in the restaurant and the breakfast was a level above the rest!
The rooms were basic but very, very clean and the views of the garden from the screened in porch were amazing. The staff was extremely helpful in booking last minute tours, and very accommodating when one night tour ran late (they held our dinner even though the dining room was closed!). The restaurant for lunch and dinner and the included breakfast were very good and had abundant options. The hotel itself is a bit outside of town and we didn't feel comfortable walking into town - that was a bit of a draw back because you couldn't just "wander" into town for a meal, but it was very close to the Monteverde Reserve, so it depends what you are looking for.
Clean & comfortable rooms. View was good later in the day. In the morning the windows had so much condensation that you couldn’t actually see out. Staff had grudging service. So far out (5km) from Santa Elena that you had no choice but to get a taxi each way. No trails for walking or activities at the hotel.
This was a nice location in Monteverde, with the entrance to the Cloud Forest Reserve an easy (though uphill) 10 minute walk up the road. The rooms are very large, with a sitting area that looks out over the trees. They are a bit dark, but very clean and comfortable enough (especially given that we spent very little time actually hanging out in the room). The common areas are beautiful, with wide views of the forest both from the main dining room and the breakfast room. We loved the daily happy hour with 2 for 1 cocktails. The hotel is very peaceful and feels quite remote, though the staff is happy to call a taxi for you to go into town ($10 each way). Due to thunderstorms, we had to reschedule a zip-line experience, and the staff helped us work out the change and kept our luggage for us until our rescheduled afternoon.…
We had a lovely stay at the Trapp Family Lodge in Monteverde. We spent 3 nights in the Mountain View room. The grounds are so well kept and the staff are very friendly. Breakfast was very good. You had 3 choices: toast with eggs, pancakes with eggs or the traditional Costa Rican rice, beans and plantains. All were great. Lunch and dinner options in the restaurant were great as well. There was one evening we decided to go into Santa Elena for dinner and the front desk staff were very helpful in procuring us a taxi. We also enjoyed hanging out and playing with the resident kitty cat.
A hotel that was placed deep in the cloud first, a close location to the Hummingbird Cafe and other just see sights. The staff were very accommodating and helped with every need. The food was excellent and fairly priced, with great veggie options! A perfect spot for a Monteverde stay and the environmental push the hotel has also adds to its appeal.
The hotel was clean, the room spacious and restaurant had a varied menu. This is the last hotel before you reach the entrance to the Cloud Forest, so it is up a big hill. It's quite a way from the town so you ned to get a taxi if you want to explore the local facilities. We had a couple of lovely evenings in the bar area playing cards and trying the cocktails, but it was very quiet when we were there. all the staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was served in a separate building, the food was tasty and plentiful.
