We had a lovely stay at the Trapp Family Lodge in Monteverde. We spent 3 nights in the Mountain View room. The grounds are so well kept and the staff are very friendly. Breakfast was very good. You had 3 choices: toast with eggs, pancakes with eggs or the traditional Costa Rican rice, beans and plantains. All were great. Lunch and dinner options in the restaurant were great as well. There was one evening we decided to go into Santa Elena for dinner and the front desk staff were very helpful in procuring us a taxi. We also enjoyed hanging out and playing with the resident kitty cat.

Room Tip: Bring a loofah or your own wash cloth. You only get large towels for drying off. That’s it.

A hotel that was placed deep in the cloud first, a close location to the Hummingbird Cafe and other just see sights. The staff were very accommodating and helped with every need. The food was excellent and fairly priced, with great veggie options! A perfect spot for a Monteverde stay and the environmental push the hotel has also adds to its appeal.

The hotel was clean, the room spacious and restaurant had a varied menu. This is the last hotel before you reach the entrance to the Cloud Forest, so it is up a big hill. It's quite a way from the town so you ned to get a taxi if you want to explore the local facilities. We had a couple of lovely evenings in the bar area playing cards and trying the cocktails, but it was very quiet when we were there. all the staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was served in a separate building, the food was tasty and plentiful.

Good location within walking distance of Monte Verde National park. Rooms 22 had stunning views of rain forest but long and steep walk up from reception especially with suitcases. Room large with 2 double beds and large shower with nice products but furniture and decor somewhat dated, limited shelf storage and no fridge. Evening meal was rather disappointing and rather poor breakfast.

My sister and I visited Monteverde again after 5 years. A bit disappointed on how the town has grown, which may certainly have scared lots of fauna away. However, our stay at the Trapp Family Lodge was great; super friendly staff (thank you Lidier for your kindness), delicious food and cocktails, and super clean and cozy facilities. You will feel safe and relaxed in this beautiful property.

Excellent service and cleanliness. Maybe a little dated but comfy bed and spacious room. We were in the rooms at the back with a nice view. It was very windy and quite cold so we asked for a heater which was provided, so we were very comfortable. There was a small menu for dinner and lunch but it was all well cooked and well presented. I think 2 night stay and meals worked well, personally any longer and I would go into town to eat for a change at 10 dollars each way. There isn’t a pool but it was too cold for that!

Our room was dark, cold and dreary and very dated. It was so cold as no sun got to it despite clear sunny days while we were there. The only way to get warm was to get under the blankets during the day. At night time it was okay. The dining room was cold too. I sat in a fleece one night at dinner. Breakfast was a bit basic and although food at dinner was okay, there was no atmosphere in the restaurant. We were told on arrival that our room wouldn’t be cleaned due to COVID but we had to ask for clean towels every day as they didn’t dry after a shower. The bathroom bin should still be emptied every day but wasn’t. There were ants in the shower on arrival. There was a garden outside in the sun but it had only one stone table and seat so not comfortable to relax after an early start in the cloud forest. Also, not good location for visiting Santa Elena- taxi needed- although we did walk back from the Cloud Forest. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Very clean spacious room with nice view. It seems like one of the last hotels before the cloud forest park but unlike other reviews I wouldn’t consider it to be walking distance to the park - it can be done but still far off walking but by car just a few minutes away

Room Tip: The bar had a $5 happy hour 4-6 pm but for a short list of drinks mainly tequila and vodka based.

We stayed in one of the upper rooms. I am no going to lie it was a hike to get to the room especially with luggage. They did offer to help with luggage. The room did have a beautiful view. I counted each bed had 5 blankets on them to keep you cozy! All the staff were friendly and service was impeccable. Breakfast was good but pretty basic.

I loved this hotel. We read the reviews and asked for a quiet room and got it, and it was very quiet. The views over the cloud forest were spectacular from our room. Walking distance from Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological reserve. Not from town though, but short taxi ride. Glad we didn't stay in town as it looked a little tacky. The staff here were absolutely the best, nice and calm and great at their job. The restaurant food was delicious especially the ceviche. The room was a little "clinical' but it wasn't an issue. Good shower, good products. Lovely and clean. My only issue was the breakfast, not tons of choice, the only bad coffee I had in CR and the bread was not nice, cheap white sliced bread - and margarine??? It's not the 1970s! HOWEVER having said that, everything else was so great that it was a minor quibble. Thanks for a lovely stay!
