We decided to stay here on our recent visit to the Monteverde Cloud Forest based on the many positive reviews for this new lodge. The lodge itself is spectacular with an open air lobby with a beautiful view to the west great for watching sunset and seeing all the way to the Pacific Ocean.

We stayed in one of the bungalows right next to the Lodge. It was a two story unit with two complete bedrooms with bathrooms on both floors. After glamping for 3 days, having air conditioning, a real shower and a room without insects was an absolute joy.

Our kids stayed in the upper bedroom and my wife and I enjoyed the lower bedroom. This was great after sharing a room together the past 3 days.

The Lodge includes a free breakfast each morrning which was a great way to start the day. They were extremely accommodating to our needs, arranging for a night hike and even taking care of laundering our dirty clothes.

The parking lot is dark at night so be careful. It might be a good idea to bring a flashlight. Being that their is a reserve on the property, you might even get lucky and spot something.

I highly recommend Hotel Aguti if you plan on visiting the Cloud Forest.

They sanitize your luggage and shoes and ask you to wash your hands upon checkin. Staff is always masked and we felt very safe staying here during COVID times.

The bed is comfortable. The shower is so slow to drain and almost immediately after turning the shower on you are standing in a pool of water. The futon in the living area of the room is uncomfortable and a couch would be better suited here. There is a very small table with only one chair which is not very useful for a 2 person stay. There is a mini-fridge, coffee maker and two complimentary waters. It was strange to not have silverware, dishware or other kitchen supplies in the kitchenette of our room.

The room temperature was very comfortable in the evening and at night with the windows open. However, during the day the room gets very hot and you must keep the curtains closed to prevent further heating from the sun beaming in from the large windows. This kind of defeats the purpose of having wonderful views. There need to be fans in the room to offer some relief from the daytime heat.

Our welcome drinks were wonderful. Dinner was great our first night (watermelon salad, beef, risotto) but disappointing our second night (ceviche, bland burger, small sized portobello entree that did not have actual portobello mushrooms). Tipico breakfast is great but the pancakes were not good. Prices are more than what you'd pay in town. Entrees $14-$30 USD. The dining room has great views and sliding glass doors to offer some air circulation during covid. There are also dining tables outside. We were happy to have Javier as our server.

There is a private reserve right next to the hotel where guests can explore the trails for free. This was a nice perk of staying here and we had the trails to ourselves.

Communication could be better. We asked for directions to the hotel since Google maps tends to be incorrect in areas like this. Instead of being given detailed directions on how to find the hotel, we were told only to take the main highway towards Monteverde which is not helpful. For the record, Google maps does not have the correct location. Also, when we later inquired about visiting the Cloud Reserve, we were told by the front desk staff that we need to have a reservation made. They were happy to assist with this but I feel this information about visiting a major tourist site here should've been offered at checkin. If we hadn't asked them about it and just driven there, we would've been denied entry.

This small property is nestled in the mountains with wonderful views from the rooms. The staff is very nice and welcoming. Mostly it's a great place to stay with just a few areas of improvement: The shower drained very slowly, so a pool of water formed just a few minutes after. The rooms can get quite hot in the afternoon and could use a fan for some air circulation. The menu is a bit hit or miss, the burger and the ceviche were lower on the list but the watermelon salad was a real standout.

We loved hiking in the adjacent nature preserve, we didn't see anyone the whole time that we hiked. You can hike the whole perserve in two hours or less. We traveled during Dec 2020 so covid precations were a concern before staying. Upon check in we were asked to wash our hands and had our temperature taken. Our luggage was sprayed with Lysol. Staff wore masks at all times and the tables in the dining area were distanced; you can also dine on the outdoor patio if you want. The staff also asked if we wanted our room cleaned or not and we opted to go without to minimize the people in our room during our stay.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay - it was a bit expensive but it's a great pick for a few nights in Monteverde. Great rooms and views with a top-notch staff make this a worthwhile stay. Nonetheless the small issues are minor and I fully recommend staying here.

Stayed at a bungalow and the room is fantastic, separate bathrooms in the main level and downstairs. fan in the celling and heaters for cold nights. Very private and spacious.
Food is delicious, strongly suggest to eat there as well, the menu has different options * the price is similar to restaurant in town* , but the quality is better.
The hotel offers access to the Aguti reserve, we did the trails in about 2 hours, but you certainly enjoy longer if you have photography or bird watching gears .
The staff is extremely helpful, they even helped us arrange the taxi for some of the tours and the communications was always fast response. Monteverde is one of the best places in Costa Rica to visit.
We were provided instructions prior to arrival for COVID 19 management, they checked our temperature and disinfected the luggage, staff is always wearing face masks and the tables in the restaurant were also cleaned constantly.

The Hotel Aguti Lodge and Reserve (previously Koora Hotel) provides intimate and relaxing accommodations synchronous with it's location in Monteverde. Our destination was the local wildlife reserves and we were pleasantly surprised by the walking-distance proximity of the Aguti Reserve. The lodge is small, with a total of 16 accommodations. My husband and I stayed in a family bungalow with our teenage son. The bungalows are close but independent of the main building with 2 generously sized bedrooms and baths and a small kitchenette. We had a great view from this hillside retreat and saw many birds and monkeys on the property. The staff was caring, learning all of our names and checking at every interaction that we had what we needed. The food, cocktails and wine at the onsite restaurant, Kire, was excellent and varied; which is particularly impressive given the small size of the lodge. Although we stayed for 3 nights, we never bothered to find another restaurant. I enthusiastically recommend the Aguti Lodge-- I'm confident that you will also be well taken care of and relaxed.

We stayed for two nights in February and it’s a very pleasant hotel. The family bungalow in the trees was spacious and clean with two large double bedrooms and en suite bathrooms. The bed linen/ pillows and blankets are very good quality. Unfortunately there is no view from these rooms. They have a small kitchen area but there is no way of cooking anything should you want to. A microwave would be useful. Also there is no telephone in the rooms which are a walk from the main building in case of a night time emergency etc. It can be cold up in Monteverde particularly in the mornings and we couldn’t find anyway to warm the room up? A couple of bathrobes would also be a nice touch as it is chilly getting out of the shower. The staff were helpful and friendly particularly our waiter ‘Adan’ who was a complete superstar and extremely accommodating! He got everything right! The food in the restaurant was very good and we ate dinner there both nights. A little pricey but the restaurant is lovely. The views during the day are beautiful! Overall a very nice stay but maybe a couple of things to improve. Also they don’t give their customers feedback forms which would be useful as the hotel I believe has only been open for a short time.

From the moment we set foot inside the lobby, Marco was there to welcome us and explain the Covid protocols and the friendly staff offered welcome drinks while we viewed a monkey hanging right outside the bar. The open air restaurant and bar offer an incredible view of the Gulf of Nicoya (?) with impeccable service at every turn. The breakfast was fantistic, the drinks at night were reasonable especially during the 5-6pm happy hour. We are a family of 5 adults and had the family bungalow which you enter on 2nd floor and has a kitchenette (large min fridge, sink, microwave, bartop) and downstairs was more of a suite-both have balconies. Incredible stay here - one of my top hotel stays of all time for sure.

We had a wonderful experience at Koora Hotel. It is in the town of Santa Elena, but it is receded back into the cloud forest. You can take a short hike right from the grounds directly into the Aguti Reserve. We stayed in a bungalow with bay window views directly into the jungle.

The staff are very friendly, attentive and helpful. Even though I was hesitant to take their time, they freely offered extensive help with our stay and for excursions. Despite all their attention, there did not appear to be any price premium for the horseback ride they booked on our behalf. For the included breakfast, they brought us a plate of fresh fruit plus anything we wanted off their menu. They offered to bring it to our room, but we opted for the balcony mounted tables that overlooked the jungle skyline. We also had a great dinner in their cozy dining room. It was always quiet in the dining area and throughout the property, because there are only a handful of rooms in this boutique hotel.

There is wildlife on the property, such as coatis and capuchin monkeys. We had a band of a dozen or more coatis show up just outside our bungalow, some adults and some playful babies. We got to watch and film them up close for some time.

Coming from Texas, I was skeptical about the lack of air conditioning, but I did not find any competing hotel with A/C, so I trusted it just was not necessary in Monteverde. That turned out to be true. We slept comfortably, and the room always felt fine. They did have portable heaters available in the room, but we did not need those either.

I did plenty of research ahead of my trip. Koora certainly lives up to their positive reviews. I would be happy to return here again.

I travel often but have never written a review, this hotel deserves it though. The pictures don't do it justice. The bungalows are spotless and make you feel like you are in a treehouse watching animals outside your window. The food is 5 star quality, starting with a plate of fresh fruit every morning, then wrapping up the day with creative mixed drinks using local fresh fruit that are out of this world. Also has an excellent wine list. The true gem is the staff! The staff grew up together, and make you feel like you are part of their family while providing excellent service. This hotel has a cozy friendly feel that puts you ease from kids to adults while feeling pampered the entire time. I honestly would go to Monteverde just to experience a stay at Koora Hotel, and get to meet Christian and Aaron who will blow you away with their friendly smiles and professional high quality service. If worrying about Covid: Restaurant was open air, tables are well spaced, and all staff wear masks all the time.

This hotel had beautiful mountainside / jungle views overlooking the distant Pacific Ocean from the restaurant and every room. This, however is not what set them apart from all the hotel and resorts we've ever stayed at... It was the friendly, personal, impeccable service we experienced. Our waiters, Aaron and Cristian, knew each of our names on the very first day, and knew ever prior order we had up to the last day. The food and drinks were superb. Throughout the meals every glass was always kept full and by the end of the meal every plate was totally empty. Daiana and Marco were always seeking to help in any situation, and we had a few they delivered us from, quickly and effectively. We are trying to find a way to get back there soon.

No, there is no elevator and there are stairs, depending on which bungalow you are in. Our bungalow had a lot of stairs to walk up. I do remember seeing a few that had no stairs but a slope.
