The Hacienda San Jose located at Chinca Alta is a place where one can breathe the contradictory atmosphere of the colonial haciendas in Perù (an in other Latin American countries): fascinating on one side, cruel on the other side. The complex is beautiful, the food quite good and the dances reminding the mixing of slaves coming from Africa, with coast...

Another free tour courtesy of Peru Hop. Fascinating to learn the dark history of the cramped confines beneath this stylish colonial house. The torchlight scramble through the narrow passages adding to the mystery. The anonymous slave painted picture in reception is also worth a look for a glimpse of life back then.

When travelling with Peru Hop (bus service) from Paracus to Lima, we arrived here at night and it looked very different from the daytime pictures that are showing here! And since we know that we are going to visit the slave tunnel, it added some taste of mystery and suspicious in this quiet mansion. The tour is great, we got...

This is a really interesting place and they give a fantastic tour - above and below ground. We came to try the afro-peruvian food and had a great lunch on the veranda. The food is exceptional and very different from what you will get in other parts of peru - definitely worth a stop and come hungry!

Went for a weekend with friends and enjoyed the relaxation and time to unwind. Had lovely time in the hammocks unwinding from the week. Great tour of the hacienda and lovely staff. When we had an issue with our room that couldn't be fixed the management upgraded our room and comped us the Sunday buffet and show. Thanks Hacienda San...

Best stop on the way back to Lima from Paracas. Beautiful, large, comfortable rooms, great grounds and swimming pool. Luxury place at good value. We had a very good breakfast but went for dinner in El Carmen nearby where we had excellent criolla food at Afrika restaurant on the main plaza. Very different from the rest of Peru, if you...

We booked this at the last minute without paying too much attention, hoping to stay near Paracas and Ica on a five trip out of Lima. It was further away from those areas than we planned, but when we arrived we were really impress to find ourselves in a traditional Spanish colonial house with a wonderful history in the middle...

We were headed to Paracas and were disappointed to find restaurants closed in chincha, but drove on a bit further and turned off to go to casa hacienda San jose. What a delightful place. So much history and totally out of the ordinary. We had lunch outside on the verandah overlooking the lush grass and gardens. Such a pleasant respite...

This is a gorgeous property, both inside and outside. Four star quality at a very low price. Excellent service. This is the nicest place we have stayed at in Peru. Very good restaurant. Quiet countryside location.

The hacienda, in itself, is spectacular, if also a little creepy (the rooms are above the room where, as one learns on the tour, slaves were tortured). It has green space, a precious thing in Peru, and rooms with the highest of ceilings. We came to relax, and to learn more about Afro-Peruvian Peru. But there are some big problems....
