A standard for B & B's to aspire to - a warm and hospitable welcome, excellent meals, quiet location and attention to detail, all in a characterful location with its own grounds in the centre of the village.

Penny gave a warm welcome to us seven cyclists and we thoroughly enjoyed the delightful and well-appointed rooms (we had a shower) and the great breakfast. It was really quiet and a short distance from the Red Lion pub where we ate a good evening meal. The garden is well worth exploring.

I loved this place. 7 of us stayed and the rooms were lovely, clean, large and comfortable with en-suite bathrooms (no showers though). The whole place is set well back from the road and we had our own entrance which was just a 3 minute walk to the local pub where we had dinner. The hosts were delightful and couldn't... More

A lovely warm welcome when we arrived, we arrived on our motorbike and Paul and Penny let us park it under cover. After we were shown to our room we enjoyed tea and delicious cake in the beautiful big garden. The house has plenty of character and is set in quiet surroundings. On arrival, Penny's greeting was very warm and friendly and made me feel so welcome, her tea and homemade cake was wonderful too :-) My room was very comfortable, clean and tidy although a little chilly due to the cold weather but the extra heater Penny provided did the job nicely. Breakfast was delicious, one of the best i've had... More

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful two-night stay at West Lodge. From the moment of our arrival Penny and Paul did everything possible to make us feel welcome, including providing a pot of tea with delicious cake in the snug, a comfortable room reserved for guests. Our bedroom was spotlessly clean and well appointed. We had... More

Very friendly and nothing was too much to make sure the stay was enjoyable. Large garden which the children loved especially the tree house. The terrace was great where we enjoyed a warm welcome from Penny with tea and cake . Very convenient location at the very centre of East Bergholt and within a short walking distance of Flatford Mill.

Such a warm welcome - it was like being at your favourite relative's. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable and the guest snug was a welcome after being out all day. Their pet dog was friendly, very well trained and so well behaved. So well placed for Flatford Mill. East Bergholt is such an interesting village to look round -... More

West Lodge was recommended to us by a friend who raved about the location, the food, the owners and the whole experience so our expectations were high but exceeded by the reality. West Lodge is a jewel nestled in the middle of Constable country. The welcome couldn't be warmer, the English breakfast is the best you will ever eat (locally... More

We had pretty high expectations from reading the reviews here and elsewhere and were not disappointed. In fact, I would say that the photos on the website do not do this place justice at all! Our stay started very well with a warm welcome from Penny and tea and cake on their patio. We then explored the garden before dinner.... More
