Booked a night here as a treat for my best friends birthday . Staff we saw were lovely and very friendly and although the room we were given was in need of redecoration and updating it seemed to be clean enough on the face of it. Sheets and towels were of good quality white cotton and seemed very clean and fresh. However, as is my custom, to be helpful, I started to strip the beds on morning of departure and got an awful shock. We were in room 8 which is a family room with a double and two single beds. My friend slept on one of the single beds and when I stripped off the bottom sheet I found a mattress protector that was absolutely covered from head to foot with yellow staining! Looked like it hadn’t been washed in months and I was nearly sick! The mattress under neath was tatty and stained too and wasn’t even the correct mattress for the base it was on. It was really terrible. So terrible in fact that I shied away from stripping the double bed I had slept on as I didn’t want to see that I might have lain on something similar! No excuses here for housekeeping staff or management. Totally unacceptable! Also bedroom door was a very tight fit and difficult to close without banging as was the door to the street directly outside the room door. Not great at night or early morning when other guests coming and going. Plus side the breakfast was good and well cooked. Room was £80 including breakfast so was not expecting a palace but such a shame that something as basic as lack of cleanliness of bed/bedding let it down badly.…
Called into this estblishment a couple of times and had drinks and food. Decent prices and always friendly. Good atmosphere and had a laugh with the locals and owners. Would certainly go back when next in the area.
Basic, reasonably priced, free breakfast, good area, would be good to have a chair or chest /bench in the room to lay down clothes, or small table. Also very thin walls, mum next door heard everything we spoke about. Comfy bed and good pillows. Was good to use back entrance, that comes put to the car park (free parking), many choices to eat out, as food wasn't served on Friday evening, we went to Public Bar down the road, great prices and tasty food, also dog friendly.
Very overpriced for standard of hotel, rooms very very dated,No food /evening meal on offer even though it says it offered when room was booked Breakfast was ok,Hotel is offered with parking but it’s actually a public car park next to the pub.The hotel would be ok if about £40 definitely not worth no where near £75
stayed at this hotel overnight, good selection of beers, lager, spirits, owner very friendly, staff, fantastic, room very clean, towels at hand, bed very comfortable, and clean, full room sanatized, shower,, toilet, basin very clean, room decorated, to a high standard, tea and coffee, supplied, light and bright room, plenty of car parking spaces, morning breakfast homemade, very nice, toast, coffee, we will stay again, perfect overnight stay,
Basic but comfortable accommodation. Food very good, pleasant and helpful staff. Very welcoming and hospitable. Nice big free car park, close to local amenities and surrounding area very nice Good value for money
We stopped here for lunch on route to Portlethen, the staff were friendly, sandwiches edible but the place is really poor, badly in need of extensive renovations. I would have been gutted had I booked to stay overnight!
Stayed at the Castle Hotel for a quick overnight stay. Euan the host is very personable and has started an improvement plan for the hotel. Rooms clean, full English breakfast and all meals cooked in house. Food very good, hotel a little tired but warm welcome assured.
Stayed here with friends during a cycle ride. Rooms are basic and in my case small. Bar was nice and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Price was cheap, however the whole place needs a refurb.
Hotel is in need of substantial refurbishment throughout. Poor/old fabric and fittings compounded by lack of effective cleaning did not enhance the feel of the hotel. This said, bed was clean and comfortable. Friendly staff were helpful, but appeared to lack leadership or clear roles. Rear of building appeared dirty and cluttered. Did not live up to other reviews.
