What a surprise to find a well managed hotel situated in a historic town. Upon arrival we were taken to our room where all locks, keys and times of meals and booking out were explained. We stayed at the Tollhouse (bedrooms opposite the hotel). The rooms are big, complimented by modern finishes. The dinner, served on the outside terrace, was...

Dear Christo many thanks for your kind review. The heritage rooms in the Tollhouse are a beautiful mix of old world charm, four poster beds, yellowwood floors and thatch roofs, but with the contemporary comforts of air conditioning, cable TV and free Wi-Fi. Look forward to welcoming you back. Alasdair

The Tulbagh Hotel is perfectly situated on the Main Street. It is absolutely charming with spacious rooms and a good restaurant, though the strong wind drove us away from the outdoor seating on our visit. Best of all, the staff are all really friendly and helpful. We definitely wished we had booked for two nights rather than one!

Many thanks for your kind review, and for choosing to stay with us at the Tulbagh Hotel. What greater accolade than hearing that you wished you had been able to stay for 2 nights. Hope to welcome you back soon Alasdair

We stayed for 3 nights occupying one room in the hotel and one in the annexe across the road. Both rooms were delightful - the hotel room was very modern whilst the heritage room was traditional - both were extremely well equipped and comfortable. From the rooftop terrace, we enjoyed beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The staff were all...

Dear bew151 many thanks for your review. We try and keep our breakfast menu varied and interesting, usual local fresh seasonal fruit for our juices, and in our fruit salad. We make all our jams, marmalade, chutney, ice cream and sorbets from local fruits. And our in house granola incorporates Tulbagh dried fruits and nuts. Hope to welcome you back...

Although situated near the centre of the Town, it also boasts an oasis of "heritage" thatched rooms. These were across the main road, through a security gate & fronting onto the quiet, historic "Church Street". They were charming, peaceful & comfortable. The hotel should also be commended for their efficient, friendly staff. Very much enjoyed our stay

Dear John thank you for taking the time to write your review. As you mention we are very fortunate to have 2 heritage Cape Dutch properties as part of the hotel. Dating from the early 1800s they have great charm and character, featuring 4 poster beds, chandeliers and thatched roofs, but at the same time offering modern conveniences of free...

Dear Elma thanks for your kind review. We are closer to Cape Town than many realise. An 80 minute drive and you could be in a different world. A charming heritage town, surrounded by majestic mountains, and producing first class wines, olives and fruit. Hope to welcome you back soon. Alasdair

We stayed one night with friends and wished we had been longer! The experience we had was first rate, beautiful bedrooms with very stylish decor, wonderfully crisp linen to sink in to at night. We all had dinner at the hotel on the terrace, the food was very good, loved the lighting around the tree, very romantic to dine by....

This was the second time I visited Tulbagh Hotel and it will definitely NOT be the last. The rooms are amazing, each room has its own decor, and the bathrooms, what can I say out of this world. The Tulbagh is centrally-located and conveniently placed to explore the town with its historic Church Street and many other attractions and amenities. The main hotel building dates from 1859 & offers a range of contemporary-styled luxurious rooms. The Winterhoek Manor(1813) and the Toll House(1809), opposite the hotel, are two of the heritage properties in Church Street, offering charming period rooms. Individual décor and fine cotton linen adorning four poster beds. Chandeliers on yellowwood beamed ceilings. Our Honeymoon Suite is the jewel in our crown. Crafted from the old wagon shed, this suite oozes romantic charm. Open thatch, two fireplaces, bath and shower for two. There are three pool areas, free Wi-Fi throughout and an in-house beauty therapist. All areas have air conditioning and there are cosy wood-burning fires for winter evenings.
