Aqua d’friso is a tranquil rustic agroturismo with many positive features.
Stefano and Maria were great hosts helping us with all our enquires.
The secluded beach was perfect and when not at the beach the pool provided a refreshing swim.
The chef produced wonderful food accomodating all tastes particularly pescatarians.
We used Aqua d’ friso as a base to explore
The surrounding areas

We have stayed at acqua di friso now twice in two years and cannot rate the experience highly enough. The location is perfect, the views unbelievable, and the privarte beach access is the cherry on the cake. This is an unspoilt part of Italy and if you are prepared to go off the beaten track for a taste of calabria then acqua di friso is a great place to stay. The Colosimos cannot do enough to make the stay perfect, the food is wonderful and very tipical of the local area and for us, a family of three, the little cottages are just right.

Can recommend san lorenzos for pizza, a trip to the sila mountains and le castella.

Luigi is a devoted and meticulous man who will do all he can to make your stay comfortable. We stayed in the Arethusa house for 3 nights. It offers everything you need, especially a good shelter for the hot summer days, but don’t expect the great view over the valley from your terrace. For that purpose, you can go to the main building for a drink or to the swimming pool. Far above the average is the kitchen of this agriturismo. What you get here (from the daughter of Luigi) is far above the ‘tipico’, standard cooking you get everywhere in Calabria, and at very reasonable prices. To be recommended.

All the reviews said this place was excellent, but they were all a year or more old. Since then, it must have deteriorated. The owner was very nice, but his agriturismo has seen better days. Our room had a connecting door to the owners accommodation and their kitchen. We heard everything. Breakfast was basic, although it improved when they noticed we weren't eating anything. Biggest issue was that in 4 days our room was never cleaned or towels changed. We checked out 2 days early but had to pay in full.

Response from frilg, Proprietario at Acqua DI Friso
Responded 1 Oct 2015
thanks for judgment on our kindness and our willingness to improve his stay. We are disappointed because you have not read the presentation: thought to book a structure with treatment hotel, instead this is a farm with a his story. Authentic Farmhouse is the home of the owners of the farm and in independent housing around or rooms with indipendent entrance and private bathroom in the big house, delivered clean and with linens. We propose, as written, change linen and cleaning available on request or you can do it yourself with washing machine and with the tools provided. Even in 2015, many have appreciated this, along with the breakfast (fresh milk, tea, American coffee or espresso, cappuccino, bread of hard grain, butter, our bio confiture, yogurt, fruit juice, homemade cakes or croissants, milk of almond. savory breakfast on request) and dinners prepared with our fresh product biodynamic products and the excellent products slow food, the green of 12,000 trees all around overlooking the sea, swimming pool and a clean sea, fortunately still wild. Maybe, next time, enjoy this type of Holiday. With a slow stay at least one week, you can visit with our maps and information mythical " valleys cupe"(nature trails with 100 waterfalls, canyons), Sila National Park with paths and eco sensory esperiences, marine protected area Le Castella, Cropani Scolacium year 1000 (cathedrals and museums), Archaeological areas of Roccelletta, Capocolonna, Castle of Santa Severina, famous wine cellars and much more.

We stayed for one week at Acqua di Friso at the beginning of July. We were looking for a comfortable, low key, relaxing quiet place where we could enjoy a beautiful beach, laze by the pool, spend time in the countryside and eat fabulous food and we could not have picked a more perfect place.

We chose one of the basic rooms rather than a lodge as we already decided we would not be spending much time in our room and there was just the two of us. The room was very reasonably priced, clean and comfortable, with a fridge containing cold bottled water and a good air conditioning. However, i think if we returned I would be very tempted to try the eco lodge located in the orange grove, as this looked really stunning and in a beautiful location.

The pool is located in a beautiful location from which you can see all the countryside and also the sea, which is a 5 minute drive away. You have access to a beautiful white sand beach with a lovely forest around it. This is for private use of the guests. You need a car or a bicycle to reach the beach.

There is a very high standard of food in Calabria as the quality of the ingredients is extremely good. However, I can say that the food at Acqua di Friso was amazing, very tasty, made with local ingredients and you eat outside on the patio by the pool with the lovely view. We are vegetarian and this was not a problem at all, despite us giving short notice for dinner. The food was simply excellent.

When we arrived I was thinking to try horse riding but was a bit scared. I found out that the husband of the couple who own Acqua di Friso (Luigi) is an amazing horseman who has been riding at competition level all his life and is a teacher of horse riding at the highest level. At this point, I thought ‘who better than to learn to ride from?’ I had a 45 minute lesson each day and really loved it. To learn in such a beautiful location with such a highly qualified and experienced teacher was a real privilege.

During our trip we also went hiking in the Sila mountains which were also beautiful (45 minutes’ drive away from Acqua di Friso). There are a number of hiking trails with some beautiful waterfalls and scenery.

We meandered our way from Norwich UK, with a caravan and four children all the way down to the south of Italy, not knowing what to expect, having only visited Tuscany on numerous occasions - wow what a difference!!!! The area, somewhat Key West in its atmosphere (you'll know if you've been there!) you can leave your bike unlocked, all normal driving conventions are not irrrelevant, no matter which country you are from!
Luigi was the perfect host, laid back yet keen to keep the 6 camping shelters (we were the only caravan, having seen no others this far south), in order. Shade from the roofed bays was most welcome, divided by bay trees (great for adding flavor to the past!). The smell of pine, ever present, made the heat seem bearable. The invasion of local pigs and sheep are our part of our enduring memory of the place but not surpassed by the access to the beach - a beach like no other.....
The food - there isn't enough space to write about that - just make sure you book an evening table beforehand and don't eat lunch - you'll need the space!!) authentic and delicious.
Park your vehicle in the private, family owned pine woods and walkout to the white sandy beach, a little disheveled with detrituse from the river but absolutely perfect- warm, shallow water was perfect for the 'childerbeasts' to use the locally purchased Decathlon snorkels and masks, along with a picnic lunch from the local shops.
Step back in time and enjoy this place- whether we'll ever get back again, I don't know but you can always dream........

Beautifully placed on a hill from which you can overlook the seafront and the attractive mountains. With a "private" which you can reach through the families farmland. Very friendly hosts who make you feel welcome and explain the surroundings of south Italy. Furthermore there is the possibility to have some fine regional diner with some exclusive biological wines.

Great agricultural place to stay in the south of Italy

We stayed for one week in Acqua di Friso in the end of june 2011, after a recommendation from friends who had stayed there previously.

We have only good things to say about this Agriturismo! We were greeted with warm hospitality from the hosts. When we arrived late on the first night, a lovely candle-lit dinner was waiting for us. And the dinners are indeed one of the highlights of the stay at Acqua di Friso. Locally produced food and wine prepared in a Calabrian manner makes it an excellent experience (indeed the best dinners we had during the week). The hosts also gave us great tips about places to see in the surroundings; le Castella, Santa Severina, la Sila, Caminia to name but a few. There is also a lovely wild beach which can be accessed from Acqua di Friso's land.

The Agriturismo is set in the beautiful parshed country-side with views of the sea from the house. All in all, a holiday in Acqua di Friso suits the person who wants peace and tranquillity and who enjoys exploring the local history and nature.

When they say "all smoke and no fire". Here, this is the definition that best suits this structure. A preparation for the evening in question that not even the Quirinale uses for state dinners. At a certain point we were also worried about the possibility of not being able to invite one of the guests because there was the possibility (fortunately not confirmed) that he was allergic to tomatoes. And therefore, instead of finding an alternative solution, we were told that "it would not be possible to accept the reservation" for this person...The evening then unfolded in a tragicomic way with a...decreasing trend: appetizer buffet decent, but of dubious quality for some of the dishes. First course I would say not inedible, but inedible due to the excessive salt present and in any case the poor preparation method. Sent back to the kitchen by all the guests. "Buffet" of desserts... without words: quantity of dry pastries proportionate for about 10 people (we were 40). These solitary dry desserts, even of dubious freshness, floating around scattered on half-empty plates and stands. Two cheesecakes which, in theory, should be chocolate, but they had seen the chocolate from afar as it was only present on top of the cake in the form of scattered flakes. The flavor of the cheesecake...not received. This too was rejected by practically all guests. But the best part was the payment!! We, naively, believed that the managers, realizing that the evening, from a culinary point of view, had not been exactly perfect (as we underlined throughout the event, but to the waiter, because the managers were... .invisible), we thought we would be offered a reasonable discount. Instead we found ourselves involved in a market-type negotiation, which we naturally refused, and ended up with a discount of around 5 euros per person! Last two folklore notes: for around 40 people there was only one waiter and the cook who prepared dinner (or rather "the executive chef" as defined by the owners) was not the same one with whom we had established the menu. What can I say, we recommend carefully avoiding this place.
