This was once a fantastic place for high tea - the view, the quality of the food, the service - all 5 stars (or more). That was once, a few years ago. Not anymore. And please, don't blame this on the pandemic! After over a decade we visited Punta del Este this month and one of the first things we did was booking a high tea here. What a disappointment! Their Spanish site shows the complete high tea menu which they do not offer anymore. What they offer is a much lower quality and overpriced version of it. The 'crowning' of this outing was finding out that when you select the 'tea for two' option you only get one dessert. There are a number of significantly better priced and much better valued options these days. The only thing left that matches our fond memories of this place is their amazing view and gardens.

It used to be a perfect place, but I assume because of covid pandemic the place is not well maintained, and actually we found it not so clean, sheets had stains and balcony had some dirt. Everything is in slow motion, per example check in (all guests room arrives on the same time and a single kind lady coordinates all and with each couple she is the one that show the amenities and rooms, while all the rest wait in-line). Dinner was delicious and walking around the garden was enchanting summing up the aroma after rain, Views are still increíbles!

Excellent attention, very good sea meal with an excellent wine. The views, amazing, had a lovely time. Fish, fresh and very well done with vegetables. Everything was perfect! The place has rooms too which are big and comfy, a must if you come to Punta del Este in Uruguay.

Bad attitude can’t replace how expensive is the hotel / restaurant. I just experience the worst service at the restaurant. My friends and I where waiting for waiter to come over. We been waiting very patiently for about 25 min. Waiter came to us and told us if we don’t like it - we can leave. Been keen traveler, but never experienced in the WORLD this kind attitude. Needles to say we left and other people as well left. They been waiting over for an hour

I stayed here for a wedding and we had the entire hotel and can safely say it’s on my list of favourites. A car is a requirement to reach the hotel which is on it’s own in the mountains but is totally self contained with pool, spa, lot’s of lounging space and incredible collections of “things”, my suite was clean, comfortable and the staff were friendly, helpful and were patient with my Spanish even when they spoke English. Wonderful with a beautiful view of the nearby lake and small airport if you are a plane spotter but hotel is not on flight path so no noise. Great place!

The hotel itself is like a dream! The view is like the paradise and the HOTEL staff is super friendly. To the hotel I only have the best to say! It is for sure one of the best hotels I've been so far in my life and I have been to quite a few. The breakfast is incredibly good. Concerning the restaurant... if you go for the 'high tea', which is indeed recommended, make sure to dress like a rich person. You must look rich! Here what counts is how you look like, not what you really have in your bank account. Just the superficial thing! If you look 'too simple', even if you are in one of the most expensive rooms, the RESTAURANT staff is going to treat you with arrogance, they will ignore you and they will behave like they are doing you a favour. To be fair I can save ONE waiter, the only one able to smile and the only one that treated us like normal people and did not give us the feeling we were bothering. It is sad to know that in 2019 there is, still, people who think certain people deserve to be treated better than others. Everything that is great about the hotel is horrible about the restaurant. At least the food is good. The staff... I'd change from top to bottom!!!!

Located atop a mountain with a great view of the River, the hotel is a rambling collection of buildings in a very rustic setting. The room was at the far end with crumbling sidewalks. Inside the room there is a collection of old furniture that was well past its prime (think garage sale). The bed was ok. Overall, the room was poorly laid out and not very comfortable. There was a nice view. Beware of mosquitoes - you’re deep in the woods. The parking area was on brush. Outside there are rotten wood eves and a stray dog roaming around.

I'm not usually there king of person that writes reviews, only reads them, but I felt compelled to write a review after the great service received and some unfair comments that I read. Most people that left 3 stars or less complained about price. Yes, it's not your average hotel but also the views area not average, the food, the service and the place! If you don't care about art, decoration, natural beauty and a quiet far (just 10km but feels farther) place this is not the hotel for you. You will pay for many many things that you won't appreciate. Instead if you like wondering trough hallways looking at antiques and historical pieces of art; if nature is your way of unplugging ; if you like not having to make plans and being able to dine at 4pm by the pool ; if you want to have things solved for you while you recover from day to day life... This is the hotel for you! And belive me, you will feel that every penny is well spent!.

Stayed only for 1 evening here and I can say this is the best hotel in Uruguay that I stayed in. I was mesmerized by the layout and beautiful decor including the ornaments, curios etc that adorned the lobby and spa. The room I stayed in was "The New Laguna" and it was fabulous. It had a nice layout of a fireplace (didn't need to use it as it was middle of summer, but added to the amazing look of my room), a CD player, antique furnishings. The view of the lagoon from my balcony was awesome! The balcony area was also pristine, a lounger and outdoor seating. In addition to this the pool looked quite spectacular. But wait for it....the SPA!!!!! Excellent sauna, steamroom and really warm jacuzzi! Breakfast was spectacular! It was served from 8am. Enjoyed eggs and bacon as well as items from the cold buffet. Was quite filling! Would definitely stay here again the next time I am in Uruguay. Just to note - my stay was part of a package that was booked through Lares Tours (which in itself was quite expensive and ridiculous). I advise booking directly with the hotel. Lares Tours had wanted me to check-out as early as 8am to continue my tour...without even having breakfast! Even though I rang Damian the night before and asked to be picked up at 9am so that I can have breakfast (which he agreed to) - the tour guys still came at 8am and I had to rush my breakfast! Again Damian is a crook! I recommend staying away from using Lares Tours to book anything in Uruguay. If you book directly with this hotel you get a better deal!

This was an amazing property, high up in the hills with an incredible sunset view. The staff was very helpful and accommodating upon check in (and spoke English well). We stayed in Cerros, one of the individual cabins with a sunset view. It was a beautiful, comfortable room and we really enjoyed the pool on property and made sure we were back each evening to enjoy the sunset. The included breakfast is nice and overall we loved Uruguay and can't wait to go back! Do make sure to have a rental car, this hotel is close to the airport (about 15 min) but it's great to drive to Jose Ignasio, Punta del Este, explore inland and visit wineries.
