i was apprehensive about this place based on many of the reviews that mentioned it as run down with non-functional bathrooms. but to our delight and relief, we liked the place a lot. its between the central and eastern (a real gem, hardly visited) gates of kaziranga, so it was easy to get to either gate. sure, the property is old but most things work well. the rooms are spacious with sufficient storage. we had to request the service staff to help with the hot water (the geyser tripped a couple of times) but they promptly fixed it. the food was good and the tea was strong. the bathrooms were functional with limited hot water. the lodge took care of our safaris and the jeep met us at the lodge. we found that if we had issues, if we spoke to the housekeeping staff they tend to get resolved much faster than speaking to the front office staff. but overall everyone is friendly and responsive. the property is large with a huge central garden with a lot of birds like an old bungalow. there aren't many modern properties near kaziranga so wild grass is a good option. if we go back to kaziranga, we will likely stay at wild grass again.

We have arranged for the accommodation on our return from the safari. The property boats of a vast compound but definitely the signs of aging have come up. The check in process was rather smooth but the room service was not that great as it feels that they are running short of staff in the covid era. The restaurant was serving reasonably tastier dishes though. The rooms were spacious but the toilets are of a bit concern as the fittings are out of life. How ever the presence of Kaziranga near by makes this one a reasonable property.

Our room in the lodge was very clean and comfortable. The service was professional. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. They arranged safari and purchased bus ticket that we could not buy online. Even more one of the staff came the bus stop in order that we do not to miss our bus.The restaurant was cheap but the foods wee very delicious and big portion. The location is ideal. The place is absolutely quiet.

We have reached here on 22nd April around 8 P. M. It was a very difficult task to locate the lodge because it is situated in very interior village. We have called on mobile no 099544 16945 displayed on Google. Person on phone guided so any How We reached there but very dim light was there so we find it difficult to trace the way to reception so I have told to person that there is no indicator or board is displayed hearing this he looses his temper and burst in very tude manner saying 'go away, I have no room my lodge is full' and he disconnected the call. I was very much shocked I never faced such situation. Any way I traced the way and reached to reception.
I have asked the Manager that was he talked with me on phone. He refused. Room was satisfactory but no room service was there. Electric kettle not provided. A/C not installed and no T. V in the room. Any wayI have managed my 2 night stay there. But I still could not understand why was he get annoyed on raising right issue in polite manner. If you can trace the way on his own without Google then dare to stay there other wise you can conclude.

This property is an absolute pleasure to stay. Heritage like property. Staff is amazing. Manager Dilip Gogoi is very cool and has solution for everything.

We stayed for 4 nights and did not get a single chance to complain (it's not that we were looking for one ;) )

Near to Central zone of Kaziranga.

Gokul Munda is the best guide and Bipul and Puklu are nice gypsy drivers.

Absolutely delicious food. Big rooms. Beautifully designed dining area. A very big property to roam inside and you will find many beautiful and rare species there.

In Business, you create a brand painstakingly over years and the business runs on the power of the brand, atleast for some years till you ruin it with negligence. The same is happening with Wildgrass. It was a nice old property which served thousands of guests over years comfortably. But not any more.

We, booked three rooms for two nights. Luckily we stayed only for one night and not for two. Wildgrass is in shambles. The property is expansive, green etc, but rooms are wornout. Things can be wornout, old, but they shouldn't be shabby. Wildgrass is just surviving on the name it had earned in the past and is taking all the people for granted.

The rooms are in such a bad shape - the plumbing, pipes, the beds, sofas are very much wornout. Not even a single rupee was spent on any item including the nuts and bolts. Neither the food nor service is great. There is no one to bother if you are comfortable or not. We do not need luxury, but we need CLEAN, NEAT place to sleep and take bath!

I left a comment at the reception that either you renovate or shutdown the property.

Great location, attractive rooms with that jungle lodge feeling. Food though, specially the B/F, left a lot to be desired. The place is in the middle of nowhere, so plan carefully and pack everything that you may require for your stay - alcohol included. Kids loved the open spaces. Overall, a very decent place to stay that could have been awesome with some minor additions - specially to their menu which is rather threadbare with very few options. No room service, so carry your own water heater if you want a cuppa in the mornings.

Took the jeep safari with their in-house guide Mr. Konwar - he was excellent and highly recommended. Carry cash as the place does not accept cards or cheques. The nearest ATM is miles away and did not dispense cash when we managed to reach it.

Always take a room on the higher floors, unless you want to be disturbed by noise from above. The rooms have wooden floors and the creaking was magnified to a point where we had to request the guests above us to cool off. There are no elevators though.

Stayed there for 2 nights and did 4 safaris. It is a bit tough to find this place as you need the owner, Manjua or Dilip to give directions to driver but you can definitely reach the place with a bit of direction. The resort is awesome and gives a good forest feel. I booked all safaris through the resort. The food is also very good and the people are very helpful. The price is also not that expensive. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

We visited this extremely well kept resort which, true to its name "Wild Grass" is surrounded all over by bamboo trees which is undoubtedly a gift to the north east. The rooms are clean and tidy and the ambience with wooden flooring and high ceilings remind you of some old British colonization. The staff is quick, responsive and the food is up to the mark. I could not meet Mr Manjuda personally but I must mention here that he was extremely helpful in arranging the entire trip for me and I thank him for that. The elephant safaris were arranged for us inspite of the rhinocerus census clashing with our visit and I should thank the manager Mr Dilip for that specially. Overall a great place to be if you have selected Kaziranga in your itinerary. Do not miss the elephant safari: Its great fun both for adults and children in particular to be amidst the mighty elephants and there small ones playing around. The only con to mention about Wild Grass is that they do not have enough variety of food which they could work on a little bit to deserve an additional star.

Having heard so much about Wild Grass, we got there expecting a dyed in the wool "jungle wallah" getaway. But Wild Grass turned out to be more of an old world, village background setting. Nice, colonial feel place. But not a very "jungli" feel, if you know what I mean :) But to be fair, all the other resorts we saw on the way were even more "commercial" looking.

The Good :
* Very helpful management in the form of Manju Baruah and Dilip Gogoi, whose deadpan looks belie the fact that he usually gets all your requests attended to :)
* The only resort to have its own jeeps, and better quality driver + guides leading to better / longer safari's
* Our driver (Kunwar) was worth his weight in gold, as all of us were keen bird photographers and he had worked with a Nat Geo team for 2 years. So he knew exactly where to stop, with not clutter in the way of the shot, light falling etc. We owe half our good shots to him!
* Value for money. Overall the expenses are 20 to 30% lesser than what you would end up paying for a similar package in other wildlife destinations in North or South India.
* The traditional dance performances in the night by tea garden workers is a delightful experience

The Bad :
* No signboard from the main road. First time visitors can end up searching for the place.
* The kitchen was the only real sore point. It has a limited menu that can get very monotonous if one is staying there for a weeks or so. And Assamese food is traditionally simple and not very spicy. So Indian palates get jaded very very fast.
* They would take our order in advance every day, fix the time that we would come for any meal. And yet, every time there would be a wait of 30 to 45 mins after we arrived. For some inexplicable reason, they would start cooking only after everyone arrived at the table, despite all the advance notice.
* Everything in this part of the world moves slowly. Service included. It takes a while to get used to the fact that no response does not mean the staff has not understood you. But when there is no reaction as well for a while, you wonder if he has really got what you said. Then you end up repeating yourself a number of times and I think this scares them a bit :)

Tips :
* If you have drivers like Kunwar, Palash or xx, you don't really need a guide in addition.
* When you get jaded with the restaurant food, head out to "kaziranga haat", a delightful little place just outside (Walkable : Take left instead of right to the main road). This is a traditional handicrafts outlet attached to a home, where they also serve you a wonderful traditional meal, if you give them advance notice. Its not very pricey, very quaint, but strictly vegetarian :)
* The main blocks at Wildgrass are built like multi storey apts. The old blocks on the side are a little more rustic and secluded, but may not be to everyone's taste as they don't overlook the main courtyard.
* The jeep safaris are long and very satisfying at 3+ hrs. The elephant ride is a worthwhile experience, but its just a 1 hr trip in a quick circle.
* The local markets and village are worth exploring on foot if you are staying long enough. people are friendly and not overbearing in a touristy kind of way.
* Since its a major tourist destination, local souvenir shops are pricey and charge 2 to 3 times more than other local villages for handicrafts
* If you have the time, a day visit to the Hoollongapar Sanctuary (120 odd kms away) to walk and see Gibbons, Stump Tailed macaques (endangered) and 3 other primate species, is definitely worth it. Wildgrass makes transport and other arrangements. (At Hoollongapar, make sure you get Deven Baruah as your guide. He is a treasure trove of facts on primates)
* Very very dusty during jeep safari's. Material to cover the face and camera gear recommended.
* The park has 3 sides, eastern, central and western. Eastern is least popular. But we found it to be the most beautiful as it runs alongside the river and is the best route for birds in the mornings.

Yes- bathrooms are attached. Spacious and clean, though you may wish to carry some toiletries as the ones they provide are quite basic. Turning on the geyser though may be bit tricky, so do ask the staff to show it when checking in.
