Settimo Cielo is the highest property of the medieval village of Casoli, around 20 minutes drive from the famous spa town of Bagni di Lucca, and 40 minutes away from the beautiful city of Lucca. All the cottages are furnished with antiques and objets d'art, and feature every modern convenience. There's a 17-metre salt-water horizon pool on one of the terraces, surrounded by an olive grove and imaginative planted gardens. Just by the pool is a canvas pavilion providing welcome shade (the perfect spot for lunch or dinner), a barbecue, and a beach hut fitted with a fridge for chilled poolside drinks. For something more energetic, you can wander the fields surrounding the house, or take longer walks through the beautiful mountain forests. Marina's restaurant & bar in Casoli offers traditional Tuscan dishes and is a welcome change for guests who can stir themselves to leave the magic of Settimo Cielo.

Spectacular location; gracious and efficient staff; delicious breakfast; lovely room with spectacular views; however, very noisy in room -- could hear toilets flushing, voices, and footsteps all around us. We also found it hard to stay warm. There were extra blankets in the room, but they didn't appear to be recently washed. Unsure if we'd stay here again if we return.

Wow, I can't believe that this home is near my late father's home! I did go there most of the time in the past to see my cousins and my aunt, but I never see this house with a swimming pool. This hotel and the pool will be great for me to spend the whole summer there to meet all my other cousins on my father's side of the family. My family and I came here before July 2018. I got to go there again, this time at this hotel. I got to tell my other cousins in Massachusetts about this great place.

A series of ancient buildings, of varying sizes, perched above the village of Casoli in Tuscany. The view is spectacular and for me the high point was swimming slowly up and down the infinity pool, gazing at the tree covered mountains below, with their terracotta and siena villages, topped with squared off castellated towers that are characteristic of the local churches. Inside and out, owner Garry - a British designer - has arranged his collection of ancient and modern with a professional eye for juxtaposition.

I would like to comment on the review posted on 20th of July, which is less than favourable. I was at Settimo Cielo with a couple of friends at the same time as the reviewer and her family were there. We had the best time, and I need not add to the first class reviews that fill this site. It really is idyllic and perfect for a restful, beautiful holiday. I had the impression that this reviewer had expected something quite different and it was a case of the wrong place for this family of three. This is not a 5star immaculate hotel with a large staff, but a beautiful, homely, friendly and slightly quirky escape in the Tuscan Hills. It was quite possibly the best seven days I have ever spent in Italy.

A secluded collection of beautiful and quirky rooms in a stunning location overlooking the valley. The (surprisingly large) pool and terraces are perfect for relaxing while taking in the Tuscan sun and the local towns of Lucca and Bagni di Lucca are great for day trips.

We stayed in Heaven's Gate at the beginning of August, and were sorry and sad to leave 7 days later. Given a location like this, you can't really go wrong. Situated in the charming, unspoilt mountain village of Casoli, high above the Lima Valley, the panoramic views of the Valley and the surrounding forested mountain-sides are truly spectacular. The day weather was for the most part perfect, and we also enjoyed watching a dramatic thunderstorm play out in the skies on our first night, and a shower of shooting stars during the week. It would have been quite easy to remain 'on-site' all week, relaxing by (and in) the amazing infinity swimming pool, but when we were not in the pool we explored the local area. The walled city of Lucca is half an hour away by car, and the Roman spa town of Bagni di Lucca (10 minutes) has shops, retaurants and a small theatre, where we enjoyed a performance of an opera by local boy, Puccini. The rustic 2-bedroom cottage was comfortable, well-equipped for our needs and spotlessly clean. Garry, our host, is a charming gent, helpful and attentive but by no means instrusive. By the end of our week we were seriously relaxed. This stay exceeded our expectations and it would be difficult to imagine how it could have been bettered.

Honeymoon paradise I am writing my review sipping a glass of Chianti, overlooking the most stunning views of the mountains. My partner and I booked to stay with Garry and Roberto for our honeymoon and I can safely say it was the best choice we could have made. Firstly the location is absolutely beautiful and the thought and attention to detail in renovating the properties is evident throughout. Each property has it’s own private area and use of a horizon pool with the most amazing views across the mountains. Photographs on the website do not do this justice! The pool was amazingly clean and well kept. There is plenty to see and do in the area but it has been so relaxing returning to the pool in the afternoon to relax in the sun and cool off in the pool. The property we stayed in was perfect for us, decorated with a great deal of love and equipped with everything we needed. The bed was extremely comfortable and we were truly grateful for the thoughtfulness of our hosts, providing basic supplies such as milk, coffee, butter, bread and more importantly a bottle of wine to settle us in! Their hospitality continued throughout our stay, nothing was too much trouble, we felt looked after all holiday without feeling in anyway intruded upon. In fact we really enjoyed spending time with both Garry and Roberto, they are lovely people and perfect hosts! We ate at Marina’s restaurant at the bottom of the hill, within easy walking distance. It was lovely, a friendly, family run restaurant which serves home cooked traditional and delicious Italian food. It was extremely good value and made it difficult to justify cooking ourselves. Neither my wife nor I wanted to leave and are planning to return next year, as we could not have wished for a more perfect holiday. Thank you Garry and Roberto for making it such a fantastic holiday for us both.

We arrived in the village of Casoli with our bags and called Garry and Rob at Settimo Cielo to let them know we'd arrived. Five minutes later, Rob arrived in a golf cart to give us and our luggage a lift up the hill. A short drive through the small, stunning streets of Casoli and we'd arrived! Settimo Cielo is the highest holiday property in Casoli with the views to prove it. Everywhere you look there are mountains dotted with Italian villages. Blimey, I feel relaxed just thinking about it. We stayed at Cloud Nine, a one bedroom detached villa with a lovely little kitchen that has everything you need for self catering greatness. Cloud Nine is a beautiful, romantic place. Only big enough for two, so it's great for couples. It has exposed stone walls, curtains billowing over the doors and windows to keep out the mountain wildlife and the midday heat, and feels quiet, remote and peaceful. Garry and Rob are wonderful hosts. There was a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived and they'd stocked the fridge for breakfast which was wonderful as there are no shops in Casoli (there are grocery stores easily accessible in Bagni di Lucca which is a 15-20 min drive away. Longer if you drive like an Englishman, shorter if you drive like an Italian). There may be no shops in Casoli, but it has a restaurant offering some of the best Italian food I've ever had. There is a restaurant called Da Marina's that is OUTSTANDING and really cheap, too. Me and my husband are both vegetarian and they had a great selection for us. Just let them know if you're veggie ("we're vegetarian" = "siamo vegetariani") and they'll point out everything that's suitable. Once we'd unpacked and had lunch at Da Marina's, we headed straight to the infinity pool. It's really a sight to behold - a 17 metre, salt water infinity pool with views of the mountains. Yes, I memorised the description because I was so excited when we booked this place. Yes, it's as amazing as it sounds. There are loungers and chairs around the pool and also a pergola for people like me that can't stay in the sun without burning to a crisp. There's also a small pool house where you can change and it has a small fridge where you can keep beer / wine cold while you have a swim. There are a few things to be aware of when you're booking. It's a 5-10 minute walk from the square in Casoli to Settimo Cielo up quite a steep hill. It's well worth it once you arrive, but it isn't suitable for anyone that can't manage stairs/hills. I'd recommend having a hire car for day trips to Bagni di Lucca and Lucca. You can park in the square in Casoli for free. We flew into Pisa and drove here and it was very straightforward. All in all, I can't recommend it highly enough. It's the perfect secluded, rustic, beautiful Tuscan experience and I really hope to go back again soon.

My husband and I recently stayed at Settimo Cielo for the third time. We have stayed in "the big house" and the little metata and both have been very clean and comfortable. We found this lovely accommodation several years ago and have returned because it is set in an idyllic location, is well maintained, has a fantastic infinity pool with great views and the owners can never do enough to help. Hope to see you next year.

Our expectations were very high after reading all the reviews. We rented Heaven's Gate. The management pictures our beautiful but deceiving. When we entered the cottage it was dark, very humid and not clean at all. Ktichen supllies, glasses, sponge etc... were all dirty The owners didn't even show us the upstair rooms and I understand why. It looks all very charming but in fact everything was dirty: matrasses, stained sheets, dirty carpets, cobwebs everywhere, The terrace is beautiful but you have to watch out if you don't step in to poop from Gucci the dog. On arrival the pool wasn't clean, chairs were worn out and dirty Our impression: this place must have been lovely once but now it's not maintained properly. For 150 euros a day this could have been much better.

Response from Garry S, Owner at Settimo Cielo
Responded 23 Jul 2015
Thank you for your review. We are sorry that you were disappointed with your accommodation. We have been running the business for 10 years and this is the first negative feedback we have received. We take our guests' views very seriously and had you mentioned any of your concerns whilst you were staying with us we would have taken immediate action to rectify any problems. We offer an authentic Tuscan experience in a truly unspoilt location. The accommodation is fully serviced prior to guests arrival, however, due to the rural setting cobwebs can appear overnight. We are confident that we will continue to attract high numbers of guests who appreciate the uniqueness of Settimo Cielo and take away with them a true taste of Italy.
