Had the most amazing time at Morgan’s Rock. Perfect place to disconnect, unwind. Staff is kind and friendly. Food was really good. You feel like you have your own private beach even if there are a few other families there. Took a beautiful sunset hike with Harvy. My sons also did a horse back riding tour with him. We went to their local farm for breakfast, collected eggs, milked a cow and made tortillas at the farm. On the way home there were howler and spider monkey sightings. The rooms were really amazing. All sustainable. The most creative air conditioning over the beds to help you sleep well. Views are gorgeous as are the sunsets. Lots of walking and stone stairs as you are nestled in the jungle but you get used to it. Bring beach bag or tote as the hotel did not have for some reason. Massages were amazing. Both therapists were great. Hammocks and shaded cabanas on the beach. Always a staff member around to help with anything you need. Only advice is to skip lunch in San Juan Del Sur but head sttaight to the Cristo statue for amazing views. Not much else to do outside the property so 3-4 nights is plenty. We didnt manage to fit in a volcano day trip but hear those are great too - just more driving. Getting in and out of Nicaragua is a bit tricky. The land border crossing is cumbersome as you get in and out your car several times, passport checks are numerous. Do not arrive to Nicaragua late in evening. One person at border and even 1-2 ppl will have you waiting too long to show papers. Hire good driving company to get you in and out easily. Morgans Rock was a delight and if you can wrap your head around the border crossing, you land in paradise for a few days and its suddenly all worth the hassle. Maria Jose is property manager and is very lovely as well. Thank you all for a wonderful family break.

This is our 4th visit to Morgans Rock and each time as we leave we are just planning when to come back. This time we stayed for 16 days! It was just lovely. The food is amazing, and the staff in the restaurant so kind and always trying to work out what we would like to eat. The rooms are fantastic with this clever air cooling thing over the beds so you are never hot. The beach is beautiful. We went for some great walks around the property and saw sloths and monkeys. In fact you are woken up each morning by the sound of howler monkeys. We can't thank the wonderful team there enough for giving us the most amazing special holiday. Thank you.

Our stay at Morgan’s rock was perfect from start to finish. We had an ocean view room with a plunge pool and it was just beautiful, really spacious and clean. It reminded us of a safari lodge the way it is styled and doesn’t have glass windows only mesh so you really feel like you are in the jungle but also in luxury! The property itself is 4000 acres! and has jungle, farm and a huge private beach so there is lots to explore and activities to do. We did the monkey and sloth quest and loved driving round the property spotting monkeys and a sloth. The staff were brilliant and so friendly before and during our stay, especially Franklin and Harvy. The restaurant staff were also lovely and we really enjoyed all the food we had there, it was a really high standard. It is an expensive place but we really think it was worth it for the experience, we will not forget it!

If you are thinking about going to Nicaragua and Morgan’s Rock, I would recommend it. They offer a unique experience and are definitely off the beaten path. This resort is unlike anywhere we’ve ever stayed. It’s on 4,000 acres that encompasses both a jungle and a beach. There is a suspension bridge that goes to most of the bungalows, and lots and lots of steps – which meant we didn’t feel as guilty enjoying the delicious meals we had. Be warned that there is no nightlife and not really any sort of activity after dinner other than listening to nature and relaxing. Our bungalow came with a plunge pool which overlooked the property and had spectacular views. We really enjoyed the swinging bed on our terrace and even spotted monkeys from there on our last day! The beach was gorgeous and pretty secluded. There is a beach bar, and kayaks & paddleboards are available to use either in the ocean or in the estuary. There were multiple palapas and hammocks to chose from; it was very peaceful. Morgan’s Rock offers many excursions and one of our highlights was the monkey and sloth quest. The description on the website didn’t do it justice. We were in a flat-bed pickup truck with bench seats so we were able to see the wildlife. Our driver and guide were fantastic and both pointed out 3-4 types of monkeys as well as a few sloths. The trip included a stop at an overlook area which had great views of the landscape and volcanoes. We went on a day trip to Grenada which included a boat trip in Lake Nicaragua. There are many, many small islands dotted along the area we were in. We had an authentic lunch in old town and then stopped at a volcano. Another excursion was to San Juan Del Ser, which we really enjoyed. We went by boat and saw a lot of the coastline. We walked around town, had a few beers at the brewery and ate lunch at a local restaurant which was right on the beach! The food at Morgan Rock’s was wonderful, although not a lot of variety if your are there for a longer stay; we were glad to have a couple of lunches off-site just for a change of pace. Many of the ingredients were very fresh as they grow their own fruits and vegetables and raise chickens on the property. We ate freshly caught lobster one day and also tried the octopus and fish of the day. And breakfast was consistently delicious every day. The dining area is open-air and overlooks the pool and ocean. They have a full bar and an adequate wine list. The service was top-notch. We were concerned with the border crossing at Penas Blancas, but the folks from Morgan’s Rock took care of everything for us and this made the transition smooth. Someone picked us up from the airport in Liberia, another person met us at the border and helped us through customs and immigration, and a driver met us at the other side and took us to the resort. They also assisted with our arrangements traveling back to Costa Rica. The staff is friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Our trip was a nice combination of relaxing on the beach or in our “treehouse” terrace and hiking and sightseeing. We had an incredible time!

We spent five nights at Morgan’s Rock in January 2022. We had an ocean view villa with plunge pool. We booked this property because we were looking for a lovely place with a private plunge pool to relax, soak up the sun and warmth, eat good food and get a little exercise. Morgan’s Rock delivered on all this and then some! We were in villa 15 which is as high up and away from people as you can get. When we booked, we specifically requested a room with a ton of privacy even if it meant climbing a lot of steps! We got some exercise every day, and the resulting views and privacy were worth it. The villa felt like we were in a magical jungle treehouse: very comfortable in a luxury-meets-rustic kind of way. The bed was very comfortable, outfitted with an ingenious air conditioning canopy system. The shower had plenty of hot water, the huge bath towels were cozy, and the bathroom’s beautiful copper fixtures were unique and interesting. There’s a mini fridge in the room filled with various beverages (loved the local fruit kombuchas!), coffee and tea making things, and plenty of fresh drinking water. We loved our villa’s outdoor space: we spent many hours lying on the hanging daybed reading, listening to the ocean and hearing the bubbling of our plunge pool. A slice of heaven! Our villa’s deck was protected from the afternoon sun, breezy and no bugs. The sunsets were amazing. There are no shades on the windows, but we got into the habit of going to sleep earlier and waking up when the sun came up. Very unlike us, but it felt much more “natural” and we slept very well at night. We heard howler monkeys a few times but they weren’t obnoxious by any means. We saw a family of a mom, dad and baby climbing around trees outside our room one day – so cute! You will get the random 6-legged or 8-legged critter in your room, because you are in nature. Our villa’s wifi was generally very good for being in the hills of Nicaragua; we would say that if you want to stream videos, this might present a problem, but overall it was great for checking email, general web browsing, and making phone calls over the wifi network. The food was terrific: fresh, filled with local soul and prepared by an excellent chef. We are not exaggerating when we say that Morgan’s Rock had the best food of any resort we’ve ever been to: we felt like we were indulging ourselves and nourishing ourselves simultaneously. Breakfast was varied (see photo of the menu) – you could be there for ten days and not eat the same breakfast. We got so spoiled by the Nica Breakfast which seriously has the best chorizo we’ve ever eaten. Dinner always had a choice of four starters and four mains; we also included one dinner menu photo as a representation, but every evening it changed based on what’s in season and, in the case of the seafood, what got caught that day. One evening the chef said they caught a giant red snapper (presented on a platter for our inspection!), so we shared that – it was fantastic, served with a couple sauces and fresh vegetables. Another standout was lobster tails one night. We only ordered dessert once at dinner, mostly because we were so full by the time dessert came around. For drinks, we mostly had rum cocktails (loved their signature cocktail, which was a mix of rum and fruit juices) and wines by the glass. The dining room is pleasantly open-air, very comfortable, with beautiful sunset views. To a person, staff were fantastic – very friendly, conscientious, hardworking. If you needed anything, communication was done by WhatsApp so you didn’t have to walk down to reception. When we had any issues/questions these were responded to right away. We didn’t hang out much on the beach aside from poking around the water and rocks at low tide, but there are plenty of places to plonk down in a hammock and enjoy the ocean. We took random hikes/climbs all over the immense property, which will give you a good workout. We did two of the more strenuous climbs to the highest points, and the views were incredible! We also hiked on over to the farm and saw the chickens that produced our morning eggs, along with ducks and two parrots. If you can get there early enough you can visit the cows and horses before they mosey away to graze. Travel tips to get here from the US, based on January 2022 rules and regulations: since we were going to a resort in Costa Rica after our stay in Morgan’s Rock, we flew into Liberia, and Morgan’s Rock arranged to have a car and driver pick us up from the airport. In January 2022, travelers into Nicaragua needed a negative PCR test 72 hours before entry, which we did in the US and had the results on our phones to present. Because Costa Rica and Nicaragua have different criteria for vaccination/testing, you will have one driver in Costa Rica and one driver in Nicaragua; you will have to walk across the border and get stamped out and in to each country. It’s pretty intuitive to figure out where to go after you get dropped off (also there are YouTube videos if you really want to plan ahead!) and if you get really confused, people are friendly and helpful even if you don’t speak Spanish (we don’t). After we got cleared to enter Nicaragua, our second driver met us and took us to Morgan’s Rock. Morgan’s Rock also arranged our cars/drivers to our other resort after our stay. Another tip: because there are busses that cross the border, if you get unlucky and arrive at the border right after a bus or two (or three…from Nicaragua into Costa Rica we were very unlucky!), this will of course delay your crossing while the line of people snakes around for a couple hours. While we would expect that perhaps the busses wouldn’t necessarily follow their posted schedules with exact precision, it would be a good idea to check and see when the major bus lines are expected to arrive at the border, and make sure you get there before then! (All this to say that going to Nicaragua is a little more complicated, but please don’t let that dissuade you: make your vacation 2% more exotic and cross the border!) We love that the owners of Morgan’s Rock have invested so heavily in the community, not just in the immediate area, but throughout the country, which is really cool. Morgan’s Rock is a really special place, and we would 100% recommend it to anyone looking for their own “magical treehouse” vacation.

Beautiful beach which I had entirely to myself which was fantastic. Great hut with a beautiful view of the beach. Friendly staff. However, the place is way overpriced. In retrospective I don't think it should be even half the price. Yes, it is a beautiful place and the room is something else but by the end of the day from a certain price range you pay for the extras. And there weren't any. The food was good but not extraordinary, since it was pre-season all was closed (beach bar, yoga, ...). They charged me for the pick-up from SJ and quoted me a ridiculous sum to go to my next place. Since I was the only guest someone could have just driven me. Again everyone was super-friendly and this is not the staff's fault. I consider it as an expensive treat basically having this dream of a beach to myself. Would I have to share it with 30 other people though I would have been fuming over the not justified price.

Absolutely awesome place to visit! The cabins are so cool and they have a special cooling mechanism over your bed. The restaurant’s food is the best I had in Nicaragua. I’m a hiker and was able to take the most beautiful and challenging walks in the property. The only thing I didn’t like is the price. Is so expensive and that makes it very hard to be able to come back. I’m a local and to pay 400$+ for one night is outrageous.

Visited in February 2020. My second visit to the beautiful destination. This place is so OUTSTANINDG - right in the middle of nature in a wonderful tree-house type bungalow -- very clean beautfiul views, food is excellent, excursions are excellent. But what I find most wonderful about Morgan's Rock is the staff. Where to begin... I missed my connecting flight on my way and Jonathan arranged for pickup in Managua seemlessly - I am a solo traveler and the staff would always check on me in the case I didn't come down for dinner - Jonathan, in fact, called me when I got back to the States to see if I was okay. The staff - I want to thank Jonathan, David, Hanley, Gabriela, Bisinmark, Freddy, Nelson, Carlos, Silvia, Carmen, Juan, Elisa, Harvey (who is an expert on birds - I went bird watching with Harvey and he is so knowlegable and I learned a lot, plus saw a lot of different birds, Andy, and Frankling - and of course Andrea the manager of Morgan's Rock. There is not one negative thing I have to say about this place - I love it - love the staff as I said they went out of their way and were so friendly - never experienced such a friendly staff in all my travels! I will definately return for my third trip in Februray 2021, barring this terrible virus - I want to thank each and everyone one of the staff at Morgan's Rock for making my visit the BEST EVER!

From the moment we arrived and were greeted with fresh coconuts and cold, scented towels, we were totally wowed. Morgan's Rock is a beautifully designed ecolodge situated in a magnificent, pristeen setting -- a mile-long, crescent-shaped beach surrounded by cliffs and verdant jungle forest. The individual bungalows are jaw-dropping, with two separate levels as well as an outdoor deck. Panoramic views and tons of space, and I have never before had an in-room coffee grinder and fresh coffee beans! The setting is remote (that's the point); but there is plenty to do, and getting to and from locations outside of the property is doable. Every single thing -- food, staff, rooms, pool, beach, trails, horseback riding -- was perfection itself. The staff members were, without exception, delightful, helpful and great people.

We just returned from our third stay at Morgan’s Rock. We were there in 2017 and 2018, but missed 2019. I think I reviewed this ecolodge once before, and I still think of it as one of my favorite places in the world. And here’s why: the superb setting is on a cliff above a beautiful bay on the Pacific Ocean with gorgeous sunsets; the private bungalows are very comfortable with two levels, an outdoor deck, a screened inside that is open to the breeze and sounds of the breaking waves; the king-size bed has a deliciously comfortable mattress and an air-cooled awning to deliver AC just to the bed, if you choose, so you feel like you’re living with Nature but also get a good night’s sleep; the palm-tree and tamarind-tree-lined beach is very private and has cabanas to stay out of the sun; the ocean is the perfect cooling temperature and the waves fun to play in; there is great birding right from your bungalow, from kayak in the estuary, or hiking in the forest; the staff are excellent and service impeccable; there are international travelers staying here who are interesting to talk to but if you wish to be alone that is no problem; the food is excellent; massages offered in the beach-side spa are superb, and while you are relaxing with your treatment you are serenaded with the wind in the coconut palms and the ocean waves; the overall tone of this place is serene and lo-key. We elected to spend most of our time at the beach, reading in the hammocks and playing in the waves for a week of respite and communing with Nature. However, there are lots of fun activities to do here, which we did during our first visit. Staff naturalists can take you on adventures to look for monkeys and other wildlife or horseback riding on the beach. The families who had children with them were having a great time! It is a shame that the political situation in Nicaragua has dampened tourism to the country, especially to Morgan’s Rock, which is on a 4,000-acre nature preserve in the southwest corner of the country, far from any political demonstrations, which occur mostly in the cities. We felt safe traveling here with transportation arranged by Morgan’s Rock. We were picked up in Liberia, Costa Rica, and transported across the border. (We were picked up in 2018 at Managua, which I think is fine if you have a driver.) Our three stays were all in January or February, which offered a sunshine break from winter’s gloom in the U.S.. We are thinking, however, of making our next visit during the rainy season. I’ve been to Costa Rica in August and it is a beautiful time to be in this part of the world – it is cooler, the blue sky is filled with big cumulus clouds that deliver thunderstorms for a few hours during the afternoon, and the tropical deciduous forest is lush and green. I could go into much more detail about how wonderful the management and staff are at Morgan’s Rock, but this is getting long already.
