Along with a dozen others, it was my humble privilege to be a participant in the yoga retreat at Phool Chatti Ashram in Rishikesh. The last six days glided by like the rapidly flowing waves of Ganga Mai beside the verdant hermitage. A nature walk revealed that the ashram is a self-sustaining green project with kitchen gardens, exotic trees, and a holy Rudraaksh tree. The ashram is home to five lovable dogs and hosts diverse flora and fauna. Daily before dawn a gentle morning bell nudged us awake, the invigorating warm water shower brought us alive and the back-to-back rounds of guided meditation, yoga asana, deep discussion on the aspects of Ashtanga Yoga, the daily Shramdaan as part of Karma yoga, all will remain with us forever. A ritual dip in the Ganga Mai, was so cleansing and we felt rejuvenated and recharged with energy. Additional services offered by the Phool Chatti Ashram are Ayurvedic massage and Sound treatment to soothe your nerves. We’re grateful to Lalita Nand ji, Patricia Ma’am & Sue Ma’am for their lessons in Yoga and Spirituality. The daily puja and kirtan at the temple complex were so surreal. Mayank ji, the perennial outdoors guy led us on memorable treks, wading across ice-cold mountain brooks to cascading waterfalls and rustic hilltop mud homestay. The dining area looks out to the mighty Ganga Mai roaring by in her majesty, the pristine air often pierced with the adrenalin-fuelled cries of the river rafting crews tossing on her frothy waves. Deepak ji and Suresh ji, the cooks pampered us with delicious meals thrice a day. Each and every meal was planned thoughtfully to be different from the last one. The most significant aspect of the retreat was the diversity of the participants. Here we were from various countries, different cultures, disparate religions, backgrounds, and age groups, yet by the end of the week, we had all mixed like a tasty spicy curry in the melting pot of yoga. This is the true meaning of Yoga – it unites, it yokes together. Forever thankful to Phool Chatti Ashram, Rishikesh.

This ashram is in a perfectly beautiful setting, perched just above the Ganges River, with excellent views from the guest rooms and the dining area. We were able to have a large yoga room for an entire week, with our own yoga instructor, and we were also invited to participate in some of the ashram's rituals, which were very meaningful. The food was very good, and the staff was extremely helpful. On-site massages were offered for extra cost, and those were also excellent. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious, each with its own balcony.

I had an intensive, wonderful time in the Phool Chattie Ashram. It is a very powerful, beautiful place to be on earth, the stuff, the people, the nature, the building, where you can everywhere look the holly Ganga and the nature through the big windows. Even you can hear the Ganga. The program with Lalita Nand Ji and her excellent well known stuff is good to develop inner grow, to explore, mind, soul and body. Even you can get good ayurveda and beautiful sound healing sessions in the ashram and to relax during your stay. The food is very good and healthy. In the ashram you can see many flowers in different colors. Thank you all for this great time with you !

First timer in India and at an Ashram. Left the Ashram with my heart full and mind at peace!!! Best of both worlds, program is done mainly at the old ashram and accommodations at the new facilities (hotel type rooms, wifi, dinning hall). You will get immersed in the yogic life without having to suffer, guess it is best for first timers. Food is amazing, couldn’t had enough on each meal. Its not buffet but you get served as much aa you want on each meal. Lalita Ji, Patricia and Sue (instructor and aids) project great energy but with such a calm that helps you reach your objective.

I immediately felt calm and relaxed on arrival and was made to feel welcome by the friendly Ashram staff. My room was clean and provided me with a serene environment to rest, journal and contemplate my experiences each day. The ashram is perfectly placed overlooking the mountains and the amazing Ganga River, the sound of her flow was so powerful and continuously provides a soothing comfort. My highlight was chanting, meditating on the banks and bathing in this powerful river, such a life changing process for me. I had an amazing experience connecting with a special group of people, supported and nurtured by Lalita Ji, Patricia and Sue. The food was delicious and plentiful! So many meaningful mind and body transformational experiences each day with meditation, yoga, chanting, beautiful nature walks, yoga philosophy discussions and Kirtan each evening. I was so grateful for the opportunity to have relaxing Ayurvedic massage and an incredible sound healing session with Patricia whilst at the retreat. I highly recommend this Ashram and look forward to returning again soon.

I did the yoga and meditation retreat only last week and feel so blessed to have found Phool Chatti ashram. I arrived alone and left having connected with everyone I shared the journey with. I was so well looked after, had a comfortable and clean room and could not have asked for better people to look after us during the retreat. To be welcomed into the ashram family felt very special and to have periods of silence broken only by magical chanting is a memory that will stay with me forever. I am already looking forward to my next stay in this most beautiful retreat.

The room was acceptable. The food here has low nutritional content,is of poor quality, and is served in limited quantity. The yoga hall was not clean and dingy. Neither the teacher nor the volunteers speak good English and are not friendly.

Response from Phool Chatti Ashram, General Manager at Phool Chatti Yoga Ashram
Responded 13 Oct 2023
Namaste Jayanti It is really unfortunate that you experience Phool Chatti Ashram in this way. The food is ayurvedic, sattvik and unlimited. The Yoga master (teacher) has been teaching for the last 25 years and the volunteers are proficient in English. Check all others reviews here to confront your opinions about the Ashram. We wish you all the best in your journey. Phool Chatti Ashram

If you are looking for an authentic yoga and meditation retreat this is the place. The new building is amazing - very comfortable but simple. The Ashram still remains the same, the Ganga views just by the gate and the atmosphere it brings to the retreats is unique. The yoga master Lalita Ji lives the yoga concepts on her daily life. But be prepared for an inner job during the first 2 days - this is the time the mind and body takes to get used to the routine and discipline of the Ashram life. If you only want the "good things" of the retreat (to be in a nice place, do yoga asanas and have good food) better to go to some "yoga resort". I have been here for a couple of times and it is hard to believe people can write bad reviews about Phool Chatti. In my opinion the less prepared to face your shadows you are, the bigger the chances you don’t like the retreat (any retreat, anywhere in the world).

Perfect place for those who are looking for an Ashram life. Surrounded by moutains and placed on Ganges River's bank, Phool Chatti Ashram is full of love, dedication and yoga. Lalita Ji is Ashram's and yoga's program cordinator and is always there for any questions or to provide the best yoga experience for the students with love and generosity. The Ashram has two buildings. One is the old Ashram where we do the Puja, Asanas, Meditation and Kirtan. The other building is brand new and is where the accommodations, kitchen and a new yoga studio are placed. Both buildings are used in the program and this is a pleasure. A delicious original vegeterian Indian food is served three times a day. The whole program is intense and beautiful. I'll return to Phool Chatti Ashram for sure. I do recommend. It is really frustrating when some person doesn't finish the program and don't know about Ashram's life and then makes a unfair review. Miss Lena Rossbach was in the same week as mine, but she left the program in the begining. She mentioned that didn't received a towel, but all participants received an email with some instructions and requesting to bring your own towel. I think that the participant should come to Ashram and to retreat with some humble behavior and willing to learn how Ashram's life is leaving some wrong expectations behind. Namaste.
