My wife and I have tried a few onsen hotels in Japan with similar price range and Kifunosato is the best we ever stayed. Our room is on the ground floor with a private onsen overlooking a big garden. The private onsen is great and it would be much better if the shower place is indoor. The entire hotel is... More

Special note should be made of Tatami corridor.( Tatami is Japanese straw floor coverings. Tatami matt) Japanese authentic dishes are served at special dining room(booth). Good hospitality shown toward guests. You can see the sea of cloud in the certain early morning from top of the hill in the vicinity of the hotel. It's great.

From the moment of arrival the staff politely looked after us and clearly explained all the facilities and how to use the onsen. Our evening meal was fantastic. The smell of old cigarette smoke was my only worry and spoilt the clean fresh countryside feeling.

From the start of your arrival, the staff will take good care of you. They will spend time & explain everything upon your arrival. Comfortable tatami with 3 choice of pillow. The hotel was clean & well decorated & the room was spacious. We choose to eat our meals in our room with an extra cost. The food was delicious.... More

Kifunosato is one of the best Onsen Hotels we ever stayed! Every corner of the hotel is nicely and artistically decorated. There is light elegant aroma over the lobby. All staff and Madam Sasaki are friendly and warm. They speak good English. The tatami over the whole area of the hotel is of high quality and is so comfortable to... More

Staff was very friendly and very accommodating. The driver was excellent! Breakfast and dinner were very good. If you enjoy peace and quiet, this is the place to visit. There is really nothing in the area to visit. This is definitely place that is off the beaten track.

If you want a true Japanese Onsen ryokan without any western tourists, this is a fantastic little place!! The place is beautiful, and the staff could not be more eager to please. And the day trips that Junko set up were just amazing! We went to see a master sword maker, a bizan pottery master, and learned to make a... More

We opted for the suite room with private hot spring bath. It had two queen beds, a massive living area and another Japanese room laid with tatami. We opted to have value rather than volume meal option and was delighted by the quality presented to us. There were snow crab, puffer fish hot pot, scallops, etc. There were a few... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
【5 REASONS TO STAY at Kifu no Sato】#1.A vivid appreciation of the seasons:All aspects of traditional Japanese culture derive inspiration from the respect and appreciation for the unique qualities each season brings. The seasonal flowers and food at our ryokan set the scene for your authentic Japanese experience. With the change of each season, so the menu changes to reflect the best that Okayama has to offer in fruit, vegetables and speciality fare. #2.A chance to taste some of our long-treasured Japanese traditions at their best:It is rare to find a ryokan with tatami mats spread throughout the entire facility including the elevators. They are made of woven soft rush straws and walking on them without shoes is said to give gentle stimulation to the pressure points of the feet keeping you healthy and relaxed. To freshen up after a long journey, you can dip into one of our open-air natural hot spring baths while admiring the garden in the daytime or under the stars at night. #3 The comfort of our guests is our priority:With comfort in mind, we offer an exclusive selection of amenities such as a "pillow menu" (to suit your sleeping needs), robes, massage/health treatment, and all our furniture, Bizen pottery and glassware are produced by local artisans. #4 Ideal location for visiting many must-see spots and full of hands-on experience:Yunogo is central to a wide selection of places of interest, where one can learn about and experience traditional crafts such as pottery and carpentry, visit art galleries and museums, and witness and try your hand at a "samurai" martial art. #5 Samurai culture: Whereas Kyoto is known as the cultural and spiritual centre of Japan, Okayama can lay claim to strong association with traditional samurai culture, thanks to its history of sword making in Osafune Town and prominent historical figures such as Miyamoto Musashi. ... more   less
