After reading reviews we were keen to try this 'character' hotel. One device said they were very responsive to email. I tried both email address for several days; one returns error, other no reply. Therefore unable to book.

We arrived in Savanakhet in September and were staying for a few days before returning to Thailand. The research on Tripadvisor didn't fill us with confidence about finding a good hotel for reasonable money and our lack of confidence was justified by the first two places we went to see. First there was the Souvannavong (awful) then Leena's (worse). We...

We were passing through Savannakhet, and needed one nights accommodation. After reading the non flattering reviews of accommodation throughout Savannakhet we finally went with Sala Savan. We stayed in middle up stairs room. Pros: rustic old building with heaps of character, nice large back garden and dinning area, large rooms, adequate bathroom, clean, good Lao coffee, good location easy walking...

This building has tonnes of charm and character though it's a little rough around the edges and could do with a freshen up (lick of paint here and there, service the AC, re-organise the lobby). Saying that we really enjoyed our stay for three nights as it's in a handy quiet location close to tourism office and the Mekong, we...

This charming house was built in 1926, and probably has not been repainted since. It is a great pity as the place could be hugely improved with a good cleaning and painting. Our downstairs room had humidity stains but fortunately didn't smell. The bathroom was huge and we loved the retro tiles in both the room and the bathroom. A...

Good if you can get the master bedroom in the middle of the gallery on the top floor. Very nice people running this upscale guesthouse. The furniture and the rooms could bear with some renovation for the price. Good breakfast in the garden. Well located in the heart of the old town and close to the Mekong. Full of old...

Ok, I know the rooms could be cleaner and the furnishings were old. But, I liked this place. It is off the main drag enough to be quiet, the staff pleasant and very helpful, and housed in the former Thai Consulate building that gives it character. The balcony is a great place to sit in the evening or mornings. After...

This hotel, in a fading colonial house, has high-ceilinged rooms (ours was with a balcony too.) I'm in agreement with many of the other reviews - the place is not well-maintained; and the bathroom was ropey : a cracked room with a showerhead coming out of the wall (no shower area as such). The breakfast in the garden was good...

I've been to this place about one year ago and returned to Savannakhet again this year. We decided to stay this place since the other places are quite far. The room is a bit old, not so good smell and the bath room is not that good. The room rate is $30 a night including breakfast (fried eggs with bread,...

We chose this place as it was the most expensive in the Lonely Planet guide and we thought it would therefore be of a decent standard. 25 dollars a night is actually a lot of money for this part of Laos. The room was dirty and smelly and we could see cockroaches crawling out everywhere in our room. On the...
