Had to stop here and this place was the only place available. Quaint little place on the island with a friendly staff; clean, comfortable room with great charm and history. Pricey, but it would make a great romantic stay if your in the area. For those who have trouble walking stairs, with or without a suitcase, you might want to...

We just stayed at the Chequit for a few days for our mini-moon. We were looking to truly relax and unplug and the Chequit was the perfect spot to do that! The staff at the Chequit are really helpful and friendly. They left a handwritten note and prosecco in the room when we arrived to congratulate us. They were very...

We stopped here on our way north from the south shore of Long Island for one night. The hotel is not without charm, with some very nice minimalist type decorating. We were given a room in the annex across the street, which has two stairways, one of which is very steep, and no elevators. the room was small, but cute,...

What else is there to say. Fish tacos were eh. Lobster roll was $30 and advertised as a whole 1.25lbs lobster but I doubt it. Service was friendly though. The iced tea was the highlight so you get what I mean. It is centrally located and the decor is nice, especially sitting outside.

This hotel has nailed it - chic refined elegance combined with a lovely old building, great location, gorgeous breakfast, and a fabulous staff that met every question and need with a smile. my wife read a glowing review of the Chequit (pronounced Chee-kit) in Coastal Living magazine and called the hotel for a room during our one-night stay on Shelter Island. According to Coastal Living, rooms started at $195. The first quote offered was over $300, but when my wife asked about the lower-priced rooms, one was offered at the $195 level....

Looking for the Long Island experience without the East Hampton silliness? Then try Shelter Island and why not The Chequit. After having such a delightful winter's stay in January I couldn't wait to get back to Shelter Island in summertime. My stay at the Chequit could not have been more pleasant.
