Just had a lovely afternoon tea for my 40th birthday. Cannot praise enough. Piles of ridiculously tasty cakes, sandwiches, teacakes, scones and piles of tea and coffee. Staff were both friendly and welcoming , yet left us to enjoy a good 3 hours of chatting and relaxing in the lovely orangery. Highly recommend!

This small hotel is an absolute gem. We booked quite last minute as part of a trip to see friends and couldn't believe our luck! The bedroom had fresh fruit, cafetière coffee and a decanter of sherry on arrival. The evening meal was absolutely excellent - I had lobster broth, fresh venison and a spectacular chocolate dessert. There was an...

It is almost 20 years since I was last a regular visitor to this charming, small, privately-owned and rather special hotel - but nothing much has changed except for the better! The manager and many of his staff have been here for most of that time and this surely illustrates continuity, consistency and a degree of stability seldom found in...

A surprise weekend break organised by my husband in September. This was a beautiful little hotel with a well-equipped, albeit very small, bedroom. The breakfast was delicious and the service first class. We didn't eat any other meals here so cannot comment. The building and grounds were stunning.

Having been attracted by the glowing description of the cuisine and sample lunch menu we booked a birthday lunch. Unfortunately, the menu on the day bore no resemblance to the online sample menu to the extent we had some very expensive pre lunch drinks and left. Fortunately the situation was rescued by an excellent pub lunch at the Bulls Head...

We arrived for a one night stay on Saturday 5th Nov to a warm welcome at Reception. We were shown to our room that was lovely and warm on this cold evening. There was a fruit bowl stocked with a variety of fruit for us to enjoy as well as a small decanter of sherry and two glasses. Bottled water...

Took some pals here for lunch today....lovely hotel, great decor...but, oh boy, the food was just awful....totally tasteless, utterly disappointing ...wouldn't take much to make this an exceptional place...you need to massively up your game, or go under..

Lovely old place in nice location. Cosy room to enjoy a drink. Unfortunately served by a young lady who was remote, unfriendly, and generally dismissive of our presence to the point of rudeness. It costs nothing to be helpful, happy and pleasant so why do paying guests have to tolerate bad service ??

This really is a beautiful place to stay if you are looking for traditional English hospitality. Situated at the heart of a pretty Derbyshire village. I stayed with my mother in a twin room overlooking the garden and river. It was so comfortable and beautiful. The food was lovely and I had lots of gluten free choices. The staff are...

A friendly welcome set the tone for this fabulous stay. The upstairs room was very comfortable with a super large bed. All the little extras were a delight - we looked forward to returning each evening. Continental breakfast was fresh and served with a smile. Fellow guests were happy to chat so there was a good atmosphere. We loved the...
