Spice Village is an eco resort in the hills(thekkady) near the Periyar wildlife sanctuary. A cluster of tribal style huts set in a beautiful spice garden is a great escape for most tourists from the heat of the plains, and also a great place for some adventure activities. We have a comfortable pool, an ayurvedic spa, we organise treks into the forest, bamboo rafting and many more. A walk through the property itself is a great way to explore many aspects of nature and the green initiatives undertaken at this eco resort.

This establishment in the heart of Kerala and on our way to Cochin left me with an excellent memory. First of all by the quality of the site. The bungalow rooms are distributed in a large well maintained park, very quiet and secure. They have air conditioning and a terrace and are very comfortable. In the area you will also find a large swimming pool, a bar in the purest English colonial style with a large pool table and a vast restaurant with high quality buffet. The staff is very available and ready to make your stay as pleasant as possible. We were here on February 14. On Valentine’s Day, the staff had really gone wild to make it the theme of the day with decorations, heart-shaped chocolates, an orchestra coming for the event and traditional dances in the garden. The hotel was celebrating and most of the residents were delighted to sketch out, for some, a few dance steps. Believe me, no one will forget that evening spent at the Spice Village. A rare moment in our already long experience as a frequent flyer and a fully deserved “Travellers’ Choice 2024” green card.

The resort is superbly laid out, creating a most relaxing and distinctive atmosphere. There are plenty of things to do beyond the usual massages etc. and the staff were very engaging - you could actually engage with them on a number of topics. The food was excellent, basic but very well cooked and a huge number of dishes to choose from.

The room was very clean and functional but can be difficult to locate in the dark, especially on the first night when one's orientation is not as sharp as it should be. Highly recommended.

Functional, simple, clean villas/rooms. The resort is in a central location for exploring the area and the nature reserve. Not a huge resort. It was educational watching one of the villa roofs being re-thatched according to traditional methods. Well-tended gardens, with a variety of flora and fauna. Authentic bar area with history (drinks are expensive in Kerala - when available - due to government tax). Santosh the bar captain was friendly, helpful and interesting to talk to. Cute tea cart in the afternoon with complimentary tea/coffee and snacks. Friendly staff. The restaurant had a decent variety of dishes in the buffet (evening and morning) to suit different tastes. We watched the traditional dance in the evening on the lawn. Laid-back vibe. Lovely waking-up to birdsong. Check-out was efficient.

However, we found the welcome on arrival lacked warmth - it seemed rather commercial as on arrival we were sat down and talked to about the concept of CGH - overwhelming for weary travellers. Check-in took time - reception kept our passports which were later delivered to our room. We found a laundry bag outside the entrance to our villa, probably from the change-over, waiting for collection - not a good impression. Limited in-room amenities; the mini bar could do with a better stock. Rooms were quite plain - bed mattress wasn't very comfortable and seemed to be sagging, perhaps time to change it. The villas themselves are quite near each other, we could hear people as they passed by talking. Swimming pool area quite small.

Not really a five-star wow factor or value, but we enjoyed our stay/experience.

Namaskaram Wendy, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay with us. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the beauty of our gardens, the traditional cultural experiences, and the friendliness of our staff, particularly Santosh, who made your time at the bar memorable. It’s wonderful to know that you appreciated the central location, the laid-back atmosphere, and the small touches like the afternoon tea cart. We are, however, truly sorry to hear that some aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. Your comments regarding the check-in experience, welcome process, and in-room amenities are duly noted. We apologize for any inconvenience you faced and assure you that we are already working on enhancing these areas to ensure a more seamless and warm experience for all our guests. We celebrated our anniversary here, The whole experience was wonderful without complaints!

The entire team is extremely friendly, welcoming and hospitable. They took care of a lot of little requests we had, and did so with a smile. There was a lot of space and open areas which made us feel cozy without feeling isolated. The facilities were excellent but the team was outstanding!

Special thanks to Ashley the naturalist who took us on a wonderful hike and kept the whole trip informative and fun. We learnt a lot and felt like every bird we saw was the most special sighting! The entire kitchen team were skilled with almost all the dishes tastefully prepared.

Honestly will come back, hopefully soon!

We stayed two nights at the Spice Village, which is a 100% nature immersive experience similar to lodges that can be found also in central-south America. A reception building, a restaurant building, a bar building, a pool, a SPA building and many cottages spread around in a nice park & botanical garden. Each cottage hosts one room, features a thatched roof and is protected by anti-mosquito net on the door and on each window. You can sleep with open windows and hear the sounds of the night, or close them for more privacy. The property is well run and maintained, staff is very friendly, food is very good with “daily specialties” served in a separate “specialties restaurant” located near the bar. The Ayurvedic treatments are awesome. Both of us had a four hand sync massage with steam bath and at the end we were refreshed to the point of sharing the feeling we’ve turned the clock backward by several years... A last word about monkeys: there’s a large population that freely walks around in the lodge, and some of them are a little more thuggish than others…

Luxurious, comfortable and sustainable. The future of construction!
Akhla is the naturalist that guided us all through the sustainable solutions implemented in the spice village was very knowledgeable and knew how to convey her contagious passion for nature and sustainability.
The rooms were beautifully arranged and very clean. When you ask for a light housekeeping and come back to see your used towels perfectly folded, you have to be impressed by the wonders of the service!
The food was very good, and was confirmed to be real indian. We emptied our plate each time. All this thank's to the waiter team leading the guests to the right combinations of flavours and of course the chiefs, the fact that the youngest was able to create a perfect birthday cake in a day shows thé extreme quality of the team...

Stay at Spice Village, CGH Earth , Thekkady has been a unique and fulfilling experience for the entire family.
They actualize their tagline, Clean, green and healthy ( CGH) in spirit in true sense of the terms.
All the staff members cutting across duties are highly courteous and helpful. They actually entertained requests which could have been ignored citing schedules , with full enthusiasm and cheerful demeanor .
It reflects mix of eco friendly practices, sustainability and luxury. There are several activities for everyone. The food is healthy, delicious and authentic.
They cared about our family even after we checked out for next destination at Coconut Lagoon, Kumarakom. The staff while checking in informed that they received request from Spice Village, Thekkady to place our rooms at nearby location as they were of different categories.
Thanks for giving us beautiful memories.
Keep up the good practices.

Fantastic property. Can't fault it. Lovely room, everything provided for you. Great ethos behind it too, they grow much of their own organic fruit, veg and of course spices make their own compost and recycle everything. They only cook with food within a 50 mile radius. And the food is wonderful. Staff are fantastic, cannot do enough for you (special thanks to Renju!) The room is comfortable, and large, with a fridge tea and coffee and snacks. The room comes with a fan, which is very strong, absolutely kept me cool enough. It is cooler here anyway no aircon needed. The grounds are stunning full of chipmunks, monkeys, and Guinea fowl. It really is heavenly. You can wonder into town too which is just a few minutes walk away. They organise treks, which I very much enjoyed. Indian hospitality at its finest!
