Detailed Reviews
We stayed 3 nights in kumily at oriole homestay which happened to be the most clean and luxurious homestay on our trip in India. The rooms had everything you could ask for and the beds and bathrooms with hot water for showering were very comfy.
The lovely host couple was very supportive and helped us out with everything, be it questions about the area, trips or connecting busses.
The homestay was located perfectly in a more remote aisle but everything you need (food, tourist activities, city center..) was not more than 10 Minutes away by feet.
Can only recommend to stay here if you are in kumily

Thanks very much. Was a very pleasant stay here. Good and neat rooms. Very good beds. Will feel lazy to get up from the comfortable bed 😄. Thank you again for all co-operation extended towards us and help even during check in at late night hours. 🙏🙏🙏☺️☺️☺️

My husband, daughter and I enjoyed 2 nights with Sunila and her family. They were extremely helpful in planning our visit to Thekkady and did all the arrangements for our day of Bamboo Rafting in the Periyar Reserve. They also recommended the dance show and martial arts show and to stop off en-route at Abrahams Spice Garden (which was wonderful). We had 2 large comfortable rooms in their homestay - they live on the ground floor - in a quiet road close to the town centre. The first evening, we were dropped at the Martial Arts show and helped to buy tickets and given restaurant recommendations. The next morning, likewise dropped off for the bus to the reserve (just 5 minutes by car away) and had a great day hiking and travelling on the lake on a bamboo raft. That night they arranged our dance show tickets. Breakfast was simple and tasty Indian breakfast, wifi worked - but better downstairs. Most of all lovely and friendly family.

1. Really not worth for money homestay "Oriole Homestay" since I did many adjustments even after paying money 4500 Rs ( including food bill).
2. Toilet Spray's water pressure was not sufficient.
3. Ants and lizards were there in rooms.
4. No exhaust fan was there in Toilet.
5. So much Sunlight come into room since curtains are white and it disturb you a lot.
6. I was able to hear noise from another room and neighboring "OYO HOTEL" car parking clearly and it's like that person is your room.
No privacy for any romantic discussion.
7. So many dogs barking around this homestay at night and sometimes monkey knock on your room window which I feels scary.
8. Some People smoke in-front of this homestay since there is one shop in front of "Oriole Homestay" where people purchase and enjoy to smoke cigarette and tea.
9. WI-FI Internet range does not come in this room so we have to depend upon our mobile data for browsing.
Unfortunately, I did not feels to take photos of this home stay because we did not enjoyed our stay here.

I and my wife stayed "Oriole Homestay" at Thekkady for 2 days in Dec 2019 month.
We booked this homestay before 1 month back by seeing rate 1300 Rs per day rent and big room size photo on booking.com website but on day of check-in that big room was allocated to another person since he come one day in advance and directly approached to landlady and booked this big room for 5 day by given money in advance.
We have been told to cancel ONLINE booking and find either another homestay or adjust in small room of this "Oriole Homestay" homestay. This was shocking experience for us since we never experience such situation till now.
We searched rooms nearby area but many rooms has unpleasant, fungal smell in rooms so we decided to adjust in small room since we tired from "Munnar to Thekkady" journey and room rent was agreed 1000 Rs per day after bargaining with landlady which is really not worth for money.
Online booking does not matter for them whoever give more money in advance then that person will get room. This is simple rule.
Second thing, home food is expensive as per my expectations.
Pros:
1. Host is good in nature.
2. Home food is available.
3. Near to Periyar national park
4. Prepare some food items in Coconut oil.
Cons and Area of Improvements :
1. Hot water is not available sometimes since they depends upon only solar panel water. If Sunlight is not there on yesterday then you will not get hot water and you have to take from landlady manually which he prepare on GAS stove.
I had suggested them to purchase Gas Geyser to address this big issue.
2. Rooms are very small and does not have mosquito windows so I do not feel it value for money.
3. Food is expensive like breakfast 125 Rs per person and Dinner- 200 to 300 Rs per person so I do not feel it value for money as per homestay expectations.
4. Bathroom do not have stool to sit while taking bath and bathroom latches are not OK.
5. Approaching road is very narrow to this homestay.
6. Many monkeys and dogs are around this homestay so we did not feel secure.
7. No space to dry the cloth on Sunlight so washing under garments become challenge in this homestay.
8. Host is manipulative and is not transparent so please ask all things in advance clearly before booking or taking possession of room and deal with great wisdom.
Best of Luck....!

Stayed in this homestay for a night during my recent trip to Thekkady. It is close to the boating reservation counter, about one KM. As such it is a budget stay in a non-AC room and it was quite good. The host provided many tips about taking tickets and other local attractions. Had some difficulty in parking my car, but that was immediately taken care by the host. The dinner/breakfast served was wonderful. May be the hot water and parking can be improved
Overall a very nice experience and value for money
