We have not (yet) stayed here, but we do know that the owners are great at helping out in a crisis, so if their hotel is as outstanding as they are, then the great reports we see here are well justified. Sometimes hotels are great at customer care when you are "on site"...Mr & Mrs Matthews are great at customer...

A spectacular place to stay for those truly special occasions. In the heart of brilliant walking country this is a relaxed and beautiful place with fantastic food and wonderful hosts. We stayed last October and for our first wedding anniversary this was the perfect place to celebrate. As we stayed over Easter we got freshly baked hot cross buns on...

Stayed overnight and really it was just the perfect experience from start to finish. Comfortable house, welcoming hosts and the most incredible evening meal. It's the attention to detail that makes the difference and which makes this so special. Highly recommended. We will be back.

Stayed for only one night but wish it had been more. Wonderfully friendly welcome and quality of accommodation and service excellent. Ideal for couples or a small group of friends (6 large bedrooms) looking to relax, with a first class eating experience and then a quiet drink in front of an open fire, this small hotel would be hard to...

.....or rather, let Sylvia and John (and not forgetting Stu, the chef) treat you as they welcome you into their beautiful home cum hotel. Actually it's quite difficult to label Windlestraw - hotel makes it sound bigger than it is, boutique makes it sound a bit pretentious which it most definitely is not! It is like being in someone's home...

Thank you for your lovely comments. Its been a steady start to season three and we appreciate you getting us off the mark with reviews. Very pleased you enjoyed your wee break to The Borders and your day trips to Abbotsford and Melrose and far beyond...even if we did spoil any thought of picnic! You were lovely guests [ ''The...

We spent one night at Windlestraw at the beginning of the month and were absolutely delighted with our stay. We had spent a frosty day exploring Melrose and the surrounding area and were looking forward to experiencing the hospitality and cuisine of Windlestraw first hand. We were not disappointed, this place is a gem! John and Sylvia go out of...

My wife and I visited Windlestraw for three nights in June in Moritz room. Location and views (!), accommodation, food, drinks, service and hospitality were all excellent. There is not the smallest thing we could suggest for improvement. Very well done!

If you're passionate about eating great food in sumptuous accommodation with first class service, then a visit to Windlestraw will not disappoint. My wife and I have just spent a weekend in this fine old Edwardian mansion house, looked after by Sylvia and John. Attention to detail and personal service are very much the order of the day. Overlooking the...

This is my new favourite place. We made it here on a last minute booking for my birthday, and everything was just brilliant. Sylvia gets hospitality and John gets food. We felt well and truly spoilt and looked after the whole time we were there. So why stay? Location is spot on if you like gorgeous walks or sports -...

'Our new favourite place' , we like that! Thank you for your visiting and your lovely comments. We are trying very hard to make Windlestraw a special place, somewhere you can take a break from the daily grind and be really pampered, but without the OTT formality that usually goes with a top notch experience. Hope to see you again...
