We left Belgium and arived on may the 22th. After a 3 hour drive we checked in. We booked premium but the next morning I noticed we did not aquire the room we requested. We got a double deluxe seaview room. Time to call our travel agent, She arived the next day and got us a bungalow It was a little larger but a bit overcome. the people are friendly but not very accomadating. The premium rooms we booked were nort available Because it was low season. The premium bar at the premium pool was closed and all premium drinks were under the brand name Classico. The restaurants were only open on certain days and this was not announced. The sportbars was closed and rundown same as the restaurant at the beach. The animation is available when there are enough people. Sadly the animation team did not anounce this and did not warn people where and when it could happen. I booked especially for this, I cannot keep stil very long. The animation was short and uninspired. Mostly they were entertaining themselves Sometimes even arguing among themselves. There is a list behind the towelservice but just with the hours. Sadly he animation team barely showed up on time. The food is limited with the same food served day after day Be there as early as possible or you might find some food missing. The food in the restaurants are just a tad better but lack flavour or seasoning. If your late some food may be served tepid or cold. Don't expect fries we only saw them once. For some reason our electricity failed twice and the signal of our television was lost as well once. Getting info at the lobby can be tiresome for in the evening the persons are inexperienced. Keycards can be a hassle they loose their magnetism very fast. had to run to the lobby at least every other day to get them to work again. Complaining seems to make them surly. Now some good things about this place. Very nice and long beach, Beautifull garden, Relaxed atmosphere. Snorkeling is limited but you can see some fish if your patient. I saw barracudas ,seaturtles seaurchins, seaanemone and some starfish. There are some crabs as well.…
Our trip started out great. The ride to the hotel is long. Definately. We were told 1 1/2 hours, however it was closer to 2 hours. We made 1 stop at another hotel along the way. By the time we got there we were exhausted and just wanted our room. When we got to our room we realized it was 2 double beds and we were on the ground floor. The door was also broken. After about 40 minutes we decided to ask to change rooms. My husband is a big guy, wide broad shoulders. There was no way both of us could sleep together comfortably. Keeping in mind this is our first trip without kids since 2019. Pre Covid! I went down to the front desk and they told me if I wanted a king sized bed I needed to upgrade. It was $230US. This wasnt mentioned in any of the listings online. They also said this would move us off the ground floor. Ground floor is only for regular vacationers. We decided to pay the upgrade. I will say it was 100% worth it. We now became "premium guests" and were treated much different. Not as great as the select but still good non the less. This moved us to a different part of the resort closer to the beach with a nice premium pool and upgraded alcohol. We were now on the 2nd floor. We were in building 5. The pool just steps from our room. Because it was a premium pool you couldnt use it unless you paid the upgrade.... until.... one day some locals from Santa Domingo came. We travelled April 9-16. I guess this is normal for Easter. Alot of the locals who didnt upgrade were jumping in and out of the pool. Kids being loud. This was a relaxing pool that many of us paid quite a bit of money for. It took 4 security guards to get them out of the pool and even still they kicked cups into the pool. The bar tender that was working should not have served them or allowed them in. After that we didnt see that bar tender much. We had the luxury of meeting a pregnant lady (I cant recall her name) but she came right up to us and offered to bring us drinks. Before we knew it she was bringing us drinks when we were almost done ours. She went above and beyond. We tipped her well and when we would see her coming would jump up so she didnt have to walk around the pool to us. We made sure to take care of her while we were there and I gave her an extra big tip at the end. Hoping it would make her Easter <3. I hope if you do travel to this resort you get to meet her because she was always smiling and happy and treated you like royalty! The food wasnt too bad. It got much better by Thursday. The hotel was at 30% capacity from Saturday-Thursday. Which was AMAZING. Once Thursday hit it seemed all the fancier foods came out. Watermelons were carved.. fruit structures etc. Also a TON more people. The main pool became so busy we were so thankful we had upgraded when we did. The beach is 100% one of the best beaches Ive ever seen. Clean, no big waves. Loved it!!! Leaving was tiring. It makes for a very long day when the ride to the airport is 2 hours and then the flight home for us was 4 hours. The airport was very disorganized. All in all we would definately not go back to this resort. We just didnt feel it was worth it and we got it for a great price before the prices sky rocketed!…
Another amazing time at Grande Paradise. Such a beautiful spot and such beautiful and friendly staff. We will be heading back again for visit number 10 later this year. This resort never disappoints. It's a great family vacation spot. Very very beautiful.
I’ve just returned from our vacation to Grand Paradise. The beach, water and gorgeous mountain views were just that: paradise. I wasn’t sure what to expect, prior to arriving. Times have been hard for tourism, and Dominican Republic is no exception. We arrived to a very empty resort, and the reason was not due to poor accommodations... I kept thinking how fortunate we were to be free enjoying this paradise, without concern. There was plenty of food over breakfast, lunch and dinner. For the most part, staff were very pleasant. I wish I received the name of the chef in charge of the omelette station- he was wonderful!! I don’t think I’d be able to look so joyful with the level of entitlement he must see everyday. Our lady over breakfast (again - wish I remembered names) always came around with coffee and a warm smile. The pool bar was lots of fun - never a long line and the bartenders made the drinks very well. I specifically enjoyed the mojito and margaritas. With our accommodations, we had some trouble with our entrance door handle and toilet. Albeit a small irritant, and a few visits to the front-desk, staff corrected the issues promptly. We definitely liked the location of our rooms. Entertainment was fun! The only night I’d say was uneventful was the sports lounge night - I wish they had more interactive activities. I also wish there were more activities around the pool. We enjoyed the dancers working hard on the main stage too! The beach: exceptional. The grounds: beautiful. The main pool: needs to be maintained more thoroughly. Thank you to all the Staff at Grand Paradise Samana! PSA - always tip the staff.…
This place has so much potential. The bay-shaped beach is so much more beautiful than the typical long beach that one sees in Punta Cana or Cancun. If the resort were upgraded in a number of ways, they could charge a lot more and be a true destination. I travelled with family and friends -- a mix of adults, teens, and kids. I've been to resorts in DR, Mexico and Cuba many times over the years and have always received excellent, friendly service. Here the service is mixed. Some staff are very helpful and friendly and others are... not. We tipped generously the entire time. The front desk take three times as necessary to do anything. Check-in was painful. They had our names and info but inststed that we forward our email confirmation to them. This required the front-desk staff to give us wifi through a hotspot from his phone so we could email our confirmation to him. After that, there were a lot of forms and steps. They photocopies our passports but still asked us to fill out our home addresses even though it's all in the photocopies. Anyway, a very inefficient process that held up check-in for too long. When we went back to buy wifi (it's not included and they wouldn't sell us during the check-in -- told us to come back later), the process was equally painful and long, with lots of needless paperwork. They also make you pay to use the safe in the room. It seems unethical to me to make you pay to keep your passport and valuables safe. The rooms are very uneven. All of us had good mattresses but some rooms were dirty and others had barely working showers. Also, the shower heads have to be held with one hand -- no place to insert them so you can stand under the shower. All of our rooms had trouble with the balcony doors. The food was mixed. Our first night in the buffet was very good but things went down after that. Halfway through the week, they ran out of certain produce (like tomotoes or onions). There was always lots of meat that was usually well cooked. We tried the Italian a la carte (Michelangelo) and it was not good. The drinks are terrible. Really bad house wine and even the basic liquors tasted awful. I wasn't expecting luxury -- just comparing to the average standard that I've experienced at other resorts. I was expecting something medium and those expectations weren't met. The main pool area is nice and there's a lovely bar at the pool with good atmosphere. Again, the beach is gorgeous and still made the trip worthwhile. There is also very little shade anywhere on the beach or by the pool. I've never experienced that in any resort. If you're sensitive to the sun, you're fighting for the very spots that have shade. Again, this resort is beautifully located and has so much potential that is not being met. I won't go back until I've read reviews that there has been a major upgrade.…
Our fault, but be aware it’s a hard three hour drive from Santo Domingo, and NOT CHEAP!!! There is another int’l airport an hour or so away. Don’t know who flies there or from where. Check in was painless. Unless you’re “select” or “premium” internet and room safe (a must) is extra. Internet is ok when/if you find it. Mostly Russians, French and German. Some Canadians. Hold your ground when queued up etc., other wise you’ll never eat. Room wasn't bad, though I finally had to carry the shower head down to the front desk for a replacement. Shower is poorly designed but could be easily fixed. Don’t see that happening. Still awaiting the sliding glass door to the balcony to be replaced or shattered when it falls out. Our first experience eating was dinner on day one at the buffet. Grilled chicken from the grill was the only warm food. Broccoli, carrots, over cooked, yet cold, rice and potatoes on the cold side of tepid. Salads have been fresh and ok. Most chicken has been hacked as is the Carib custom, beware of bones. Fruits good if there’s any left, desserts are European style cakes, while not normally a fan my wife liked them. ¡¡¡¡Avoid the wine!!!! No connoisseur, but watered down plonk!!! Deadly AWFUL!!! Must bottle it on the property. Watched them open one thinking it’d be better. Twasn’t!!!! It IS funny watching Europeans trying it for the first time tho! Omelets at breakfast, as are pancakes (if you get in early enough) are fresh and hot. As others have said, fruit, yogurt etc run out early and ARE NOT replenished. You’ll recognize much from dinner before and just as cold. If you get in line before about 0830 you can make reservations at the two “free” a la carte restaurants which seem to mimic the buffet but not as crowded. What we’ve done to counter the bad food is go to the snack bar at the beach and eat a late lunch. Pretty good some time, food is warm, good salads and fruit when there is some. If hungry later pick at stuff from the dinner buffet. The guy that takes room numbers/reservations at breakfast, maybe a manager of some kind, is the most rude and surly of all the staff and that’s saying something. With FEW exceptions (whom we’ve tipped well) I don’t think ANYONE wants to be here, and THAT includes MANY of the GUESTS!!! Weirdest thing. Housekeeping has been great, I’d say more but don’t want to get them in trouble!!! Gifts for them daily tho!!! (I hide any excess bottled water so I have plenty). Water is not readily found but at one place, just keep your bottles and refill. Take care of the bartenders IF they’re friendly and you’ll be in good shape. Wish I’d have brought a decent 20oz insulated cup for the beer/drinks. Cut down on the thin little cups they hand out. All the bars have a tap for beer but no kegs. Open a bottle, pour a cup and back to the cooler. Silly, maybe it’s the wu…seems to be a common reason for nearly everything. While I normally RAIL about hotel room coffee this is BY FAR the BEST of ANYWHERE we’ve been. Cafe Santo Domingo. Very very good!!! Pool area is VERY nice, and beach and views are very nice. Whale tours beware, DO NOT go to the Island for lunch! Moto Marina half day tour was FANTASTIC!!! Good pizza place within easy 20minute walk along the beach to the left in Los Galeras “ C L Adventura de John “. Really good oven fired European thin crust style. Bohemia beer was great here. El Capito is another half hour walk away to the right of the property along the beach. We didn’t eat but beautiful views. There’s a blow hole that I’m guessing at high tide is really cool. We did hear it blowing. They do cliff diving here. Road May be MUDDY. In a nut shell, with the exception of the omelets, fresh fruit (when available) and salads the food has a long way go before reaching mediocrity, then they’d have to warm it up. Drinks have been good, but weak, finding a consistently good/friendly bartender (or ANY staffer) can be a CHORE!!! We set up our wu testing at the front desk. Went to the clinic a little early - it was pretty quick and as painless as having a 3 foot long q-tip shoved into the back of our brain can be. Results were nearly instant. $60 a piece - paid in peso's - need cash.... ATM in front of the little store to the left outside the front desk. On the plus side we’ve felt VERY COMFORTABLE AND SAFE HERE. At night we’ve been to the beach on the property with nothing to fear. It’s NOT a high density area and maybe that’s the difference. One young lady that shined was Hirah at the front desk on days, spoke good English and very helpful. Tour guy was also very good. Booked via Travel by Jen. May be time for us to move on to somebody else. They seem tied to the Carib. Regret the long review. Unless you can get it cheap and get here cheap, I’d look elsewhere. Shame. Possibilities lost.…
Second stay at this very picturesque, pretty resort. Last time was two years ago. Stayed two weeks in a select ocean view villa. We lved the villa, a tad dated but very very clean, a lovely view. Resort very rural, perfect surroundings, pretty spacious property, beautiful beach, good food, def not haute gastronomy but good. Staff is wonderful in restos and bars( only went to select bar ). Domingo and Antonio were great at the select bar, Antonio goes above and beyond, great server. The resort is older and can use updating but is clean and beautiful. Ok. my concern, a big one. There are a few dogs on the beach. The majority just run along beach to get from one end to the other. There were 3-4 that would come up and lay / visit with guests( who the vast majority LOVE ), but it was usually just two. Probably the ONLY food they would get, the only love, and a few moments of feeling safe. I chose NOT to feed them on the resort since I know the hotel prefers us not too. I would take the dog food that I purchased in town and feed them at either end OFF the property. I fell in love with two that I have started the steps to rescue. Our 3rd day there, one sweet little black and white male was sleeping under a palm, he had plunked down exhausted when I noticed a guard walking oddly, almost tiptoeing, he had a coconut that he hid behind his back, just as I realized what he was going to do he launched full force the coconut at the SLEEPING dog! I screamed and jumped up but the dog had sensed him and I do not think he got hit. But, this sociopathic, cruel, evil man tried to harm / maim / kill a dog in FRONT of guests! Imagine what they do with no guests? I immediately yelled at him and went to check the dog who I found the next day ok. I spoke to the manager of security and another hotel manager as well as a security. I said, I realized they did not want dogs on the property, but, cruelty and harming an animal is NOT the way. Scare it, chase it, yell, not physical harm in front of guests! I felt that I had perhaps made some effect, that something would be said to guards to not physically hurt dogs. Nonetheless, I spent the remainder of my vacation trying to lead the dogs off property away from guards. And remember, I am talking about 2-3 dogs that quietly, calmy, sweetly lay under guests chairs. Not 5 dogs or ten dogs, 2-3. my second last day, Tado, a little 10 month old black dog with fluffy red hair on his ears came onto beach, he is one of the two I want to rescue. I was so happy to see him I ran to beach but before I got there security threw a rock directly at him. nothing had changed. Zero was said to guards not to be cruel. Again, this was in FRONT of guests at the end of beach. Disgusting. My vacation was in essence ruined by the stress and anxiety and worry about it. There is NO REASON to physically abuse these dogs. And, it is ILLEGAL in the DR and will be reported. I even explained I was trying to rescue, but, I can't rescue dead dogs. This resort has an opportunity. it could educate guards, work with local dog rescues, help guests who want to rescue, this resort could be a trailblazer and actually make a difference. It could do something positive instead of something archaic and cruel. I left sad, and utterly drained and exhausted, disappointed with the resort but, I guess not surprised. It is very sad because we love it, it is so beautiful and staff is wonderful with the exception of a few cruel security and management who does nothing. Btw, my last day, as we were laying OFF resort with a dog, a security watched my husband and I...he even followed us far down the path off the beach and stood and watched. Disturbing and bizarre.…
The hotel is about 1 hour and 45 min away from the Samana airport. Its in a secluded area of Las Galeras. The beach at the property and near by (Rincon beach) are beautiful and bit more rustic than your larger destinations (ie. punta cana). Probably some of the nicest beaches i've been to. The water at hotel is shallow, not a lot of waves and great for kids to play. Its tropical, so it rains for 5 minutes here and there. Generally very good weather, even though its their winter. We travelled with 3 small children and this hotel was excellent for a relaxing vacation with the kids. We stayed at a villa facing the beach which was part of their 'select club'. If I come again, I would do the same thing. The select club offers some features, including a select club bar which offers great lunch options (~12pm – ~4pm). The villa was nice but the washroom wasn’t great. Water pressure is low, but we worked with it. The hotel is relatively small, maybe about 250 rooms. Takes 5 minutes to walk from one end to the other, which is nice. Again, ideal with small kids. The hotel has a lot of potential, some areas more renovated than others. Food is just ok. Main buffet offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Select club bar offers great lunch. There are several a la cartes, but its essentially the same food quality as the buffet, packaged differently. Not a ton of selection, but what you can find something you like. We did 3 a la cartes the first the days, then settled on the buffet for variety. This is likely closer to a 3.5 star (somewhere between 3.5 and 4) hotel with an amazing beach. I would say the ‘select club’ is a must, worth the fee. Staff were inconsistent in terms of service and friendliness, overall it was good, not great. Everyone seemed to have working English, some better than others. Other visitors mostly made up of Russians (~60%), Germans (~10%), French (~10%), Canadians (~10%) and Dominicans / Latin (~10%). Show in the evening isn’t anything special, low budget, but the kids loved it. A for effort and passion. Starts at about 915pm everyday. I would go back to this hotel with kids again (with select club and ocean “view” villa). The beach, size of property and location of villas are ideal and offset some of the wrinkles on this hotel.…

Amazing all inclusive resort far from the civilization. Nice room, the pool, and a wonderful beach just a few steps from the room. The food wasn't all good the whole time I stayed there, especially the snack bar with cold food without service the fries cold, that wasn't good at all. One night they set up the buffet with selected guests in front of the beach and that was amazing, the lights, the background music and the food was excellent.
