This place is one of the jewels in the world. Having a privileged life, where my husband and I have had many opportunities to travel, we visited this place all the way back in 2013, and still it is memorable in our minds. We were travelling India, before visiting Southern Africa, and stayed longer than we expected. The location is great for a get-away, and Indu, was an amazing host. I had my birthday here and she even went out to get wine and a cake for me. She made us so welcome...a place you should not miss on your trip.

This homestay was phenomenal! This was my second stay here( 10 days in December 2015- January 2016 and 2 weeks in February 2020)The owners and staff treated us like family. They were so hospitable and kind. The food was delicious and full of flavor. They accommodated our spice levels and likes. Fresh juice, fruit and several breakfast options were served every morning. They had chicken, fresh fish, veg options and traditional Indian dishes for dinner. The homestay was also very clean. The rooms and gardens were beautiful and well taken care of with so much care and love. Our backyard was a beach with amazing sunrises and sunsets. If you want an amazing Ayurvedic massage/treatment experience, ask for Arjun. He and his wife, Stephanie, are a great team. They explain all of the treatments/massages and charge very fair prices. I have had many massages over the years and this one topped them all! Arjun was very professional with fluid strokes and an energy that can’t be explained in words.... you must experience it for yourself! Indu, the homestay owner, arranged a rickshaw to and from their Ayurveda center. The ride costed 150 rupees($2) each way and was only a few minutes from the homestay. He offers a combination of massages, a form of stretching before the massage (which loosened the muscles and made the massage so much better), reflexology and several other options. Ask to see their menu. Arjun and Stephanie also offer tour packages pertaining to cultural, shopping and nature experiences. My friend and I did the shopping and cultural tours. We shopped several jewelry and fabric stores. We connected with an up and coming local artist and purchased a couple of art pieces that were shipped back home(USA).We ran out of time before we could do the nature and hiking tour. They catered the tour to our interests. It was great to have a local who was able to give history and context to deepen our experience in India! We were able to go into Kannur to eat, shop, experience a thayyem, see temples, get massages and then come back to the quiet beauty of the Blue Mermaid. It was the best of everything! I will definitely be back!!!

The Blue Mermaid is excellent value for money, the owners are very good hosts - the guests were great value at meal times - and the beach very nice - overall a really great place. The Beach is excellent - very few people on it, gently sloping sand beach and ideal for a pre-breakfast / early evening swim when it cools a bit. There is a huge second beach about a 5 minute walk away with absolutely no-one on it and a walking round trip to the end is a good 8 km there and back all on crunchy, golden sand. Beaches = excellent. The Food was good, meal times are fixed (09:30 for breakfast and 19:00 for dinner) and everyone sits around a big table. When we were there it was great fun chatting and picking up tips. A lot of the food is home-produced from the coffee, to fruit juices, honey and much of the farmed veg. The Hosts and Staff ..... just excellent. And couldn’t do enough for you to make you welcome. Made everything easy and organised a Theyyam, massages, Taxis for us ..... anything requested. Just wonderful. Happy to get you a coconut down from the nearest tree for an afternoon cooler as well. Lovely staff and hosts. The Room .... we had a family room with 4 beds in it because the place was full, no A/C just a couple of fans with a nice private balcony. There are rooms with a/c, a “honeymoon” suite and a series of standard rooms. Nothing sophisticated but clean and great value. There is a Yoga platform if you want to do some yoga before breakfast and when we were there there was a yoga retreat running for the 3rd year running. I very seldom give 5*’s to a place but the Blue Mermaid deserves it as the combination of the service, facilities, beach and tranquillity of the place was unique. As an aside - when we were there for 5 nights there were a steady stream of people coming in looking to move from the place they had booked to the Blue Mermaid and several of the guests we met had stayed Year-on-Year: both as good a recommendation as you can get.

This property is well hidden away in outskirts of Kannur, yet location with immediate beach access and spacious grounds are worth it. The cottages are simple yet adequate. Decent home cooked meals are being served.

Although a little tricky to find upon arrival, the search is so worth it. This is a quiet, relaxing oasis away from the standard noise and bustle that is much of India. The beach, a short stroll from your room, is pristine. The meals give you a taste of authentic home cooking. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. One of the few places we had air conditioning on our trip. Town is a short rick shaw ride away. And your hosts are eager to offer any assistance you might require.
