The staff are very friendly and you can feel they are doing their best to make your stay joyful. The hotel itself is with history but also very well maintained. The room is with plenty of space and very clean, with modern toilet and bathroom. The hotel is famous of its "Giant Stone" and "Giant Wood" hot spring. This is...

We came for 3 noghts to unwind ourselves befor coming back to tokyo and it was a wonderful experience. Most of the guests are japanese, which was nice after being in kyoto, a very touristic city where every shrine has a long line of waiting. Amazing staff- super nice and will go out of their way to keep you comfortable...

We’ve stayed in this ryokan 3 times and will come back again.  It’s is remotely located in central Izu (Nakaizu) which has a wonderful secluded mountain feel. The area is called Yugashima and was once a get-a-way haven for artists and famous writers such as Yasunari Kawabata.  When staying you will understand why.  The staff are very warm and friendly...

This place was part two of our two-day hot spring trip to Izu. The first night, we spent it at a more modern hotel. This was our traditional one, and we were not disappointed. At first, I thought...uh oh...this doesn't look good. As soon as we got inside, I realized it was a hidden gem. All wood, charcoal fire heating...

As part of our trip to Tokyo, we decided to come to Shuzenji and stay at a Ryokan for onsen. The hotel is very traditional, where indoor slippers are required as soon as you step into the hotel. We stayed in a 12 piece tatami room, which was reasonably spacious for 4 persons. Our stay included two meals, dinner which...

Everything about it embodies the essence of Japanese culture and tradition. Extreme care and attention to detail is given in every single thing they do for the comfort of their guests. This place probably hosts 90% Japanese clientele so minimal English was spoken. This did not hinder nor inconvenience us at all as the staff are so accommodating and in-tuned...

So welcoming! This is the first ryokan we've ever been to and the staff did everything to help us understand and enjoy our stay. It is a family inn and they take pride in the quality of the food and cleanliness of the establishment. A genuine Japanese experience!

If you ever have dreamed about a Japanese onsen (hot springs) inn in the mountains, this must come pretty close to your dreams. Great room, great outdoor hot spring baths, and very good food. It helps if you speak a bit of Japanese, but that is only fair, isn't it?

It's a bit of a hassle to get to - Shinkansen to Mishima, Izuhakone train to Shuzenji, local bus to Yugashima, and then you need to arrange to be picked up by their shuttle van. The trip perhaps took a little bit more than 2 hours from Tokyo. But it's well worth the effort and we enjoyed the bus ride...

“A room overlooking the river will let you sleep well.”
  • The western part of our room, 309.
  • Comfortable beds...view from the tatami room. You can sleep on futons, too.
  • Looking down from our room....look at that green!
  • A natural hot spring bath in your room. It has a very high ceiling. Use it for sure.
