I always knew Ladakh to be a place of serenity and beauty, but staying here at Shey, made me reach a place in my heart and mind which were blank and peaceful. A spot of complete tranquility and silence which I have stored safely to return to when living in a busy city. Least to say the food was impeccable and healthy! Beyond Bliss with attention to detail being of sheer indulgence. I will return again and again.
This place is a sacred hidden gem that lets you experience the stark beauty of nature in Ladhak like no other. It is chic, luxurious, comfortable and just perfect in every sense. The food is outstanding and the team led by Hajra is warm and efficient and silently take care of all your needs without even letting you know!
We travelled to Leh after nearly a decade, this time with our 4 year old. From our previous trip, we expected something basic but decent. However when we arrived at Shel, we were blown away by it- so elegant in its simplicity nestled amongst nature. Situated next to the river Indus, a short walk from Shel takes you to beautiful creeks with crystal clear water. We enjoyed the billions of stars from the roof every evening. We were happy to chill and acclimatise for 48 hours (which the Shel team was very particular about and rightly so) because we got to sit and appreciate the sun rising and setting each day and what a show it was! Enough praise cannot be expressed for the tireless staff who always greeted you with a cold towel on your arrival from anywhere (whether a short walk or a whole day's trek). The food was fantastic -they catered to all our daughters needs amongst our own and the whole experience elevated by the personalized service of the on site manager. You can tell Shel is not an establishment, its a destination and an experience. One which you shouldn't miss. We cant wait to re-visit!…
We, a family of 4, stayed at this amazing property in early June 2022. There are many reasons to rate it 5/5. First of all the property has been built deliberately to be environmentally responsible, and very comfortable. Location is very nice. Just outside Leh and on the banks of a river. The pictures enclosed says it all. The resident staff and chef are very caring. Our choice of food pallettes were taken care off. Food we had here was the best we had across entire Ladakh. The local food cooked was also very delicious. To top it off, resident manager, Hajra, is quite helpful and caring. We got loads of recommendations for sight seeing and shopping; also help in travel arrangements... Whenever the next travel happens, we will definitely plan to stay again at Shel. A true wonder trove…
Shel is one of those special places that stay with you long after you’ve left. This incredible home and it’s equally incredible and warm resident managers offer an experience that lets you immerse yourself in Ladakh’s mesmeric landscape. My favourite thing was waking up to some breathtaking mountain views and sitting and viewing the light change across the landscape from the comfort of Shel’s luxurious yet cozy rooms. Its location is just far enough from the main city so you can enjoy idling by the Indus and watching birds in the surrounding marshlands, but close enough for you to hit up all the important spots on the tourist trail. The famed Thiksey monastery is just a 10 minute car ride away. If you’re travelling alone or in a group, Shel is just the place to tuck yourself in for a few nights.…
This was my first visit to this property. It's about 15 mins drive outside Leh town. Stunning views, very friendly and attentive team, modern amenities. Was a feeling of being pampered while in the lap of nature. Highly recommended!
Incredible stay at Shel. We stayed here the first 2 nights to acclimatise and couldn’t have asked for a better home-style experience. We had our 4 year old son with us who had a bit of a cold and promptly a steam machine and medicines were procured. The food is really wholesome and is prepared with seasonal ingredients. Rooms are spacious and the whole home feels like your personal space. Great destination to travel to with friends. The staff is really prompt and helpful. Must visit !
This was my second stay at this independently owned and managed property. Wonderful property at a comfortable distance from Leh town. The resident Manager and her team are very knowledgeable about the region and took care of all our needs. The property itself is fantastic, we had booked the entire property and I stayed in the Nubra Valley Suite which had great views. Highly recommended!
This place is the bomb! If you want to spend a couple of blissful days chilling in one of the sweetest spots in Ladakh then Shel is it. Great vibe, awesome food and secret picnic spots, this place rules and I’ll definitely be back. More power to the team and a special mention for Hajra ( the resident manager ), she’s a treasure trove for all things local and great fun to hang with. Go Shelllllll :)
5 of us spent a week at Shel in late September and it was an unbelievable experience. The rooms were warm, comfortable and had a lot of light and the bathrooms were top-notch - nothing short of what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. The views are amazing as well and the photos on Instagram/their website accurately represent the property. We were glad to be outside the bustle of the main city (Shel is about 20 mins from Leh) and the surrounding areas are beautiful. Shey marshes, which border the property, is likely Leh’s best kept secret and a perfect spot for evening walks and amazing sunsets! Food was a particular highlight (they have an in-house chef) and easily the best we ate in all of Ladakh. The hosts were friendly and accommodating and went out of their way to help us get the most of our trip - not just in Leh but across all of Ladakh. Highly recommended if your thinking about Ladakh and I would visit again in a heartbeat!…
