On previous visits to Albir we had stayed at a seafront hotel and in a beautiful apartment. This time we stayed at Rober Palas on a cricket tour, as the hotel had been recommended by the local club.
The location is good, in a quiet side street yet very close to Avenida Albir with its restaurants, and just about walking distance from the seafront.
Check-in was quick (we arrived after the main group). However, when I saw the room, which was very basic, and the bathroom which was truly awful, I wanted to go elsewhere straight away. We stayed only because of the group.
The room was extremely basic with virtually no amenities. The beds were not bad, though. The bathroom was a relic from the previous century. Getting in and out of bathtub (the shower was inside the tub) was quite hazardous, because of the design, and my partner slipped and fell on one occasion. The water temperature was extremely difficult to regulate, it was either boiling hot or very cold. The fittings on the tub were very shabby. And the provided 'toiletries' consisted of tiny sachets of the cheapest shower gel.
The breakfast room was in the basement, and the buffet was at the low end of average. Not much choice for vegetarians, so we usually just had some muesli, a banana, and a slice of toast (or a croissant if they weren't stale). The coffee from the machine was pretty awful and watery, so I switched to tea. The staff were quite pleasant.
The bar on the ground floor is pretty non-descript, service ok, nothing special, but there are some outdoor tables.
I had been looking forward to the pool area which looked nice in the hotel photos but turned out to be a building site. I hope that has changed by now.
After all this criticism I have to say, that prices were less than we had paid for the other hotel or the apartment. My expectations were probably too high, so taking into consideration that this is a budget place I have rated this hotel 'average' rather than 'poor'.

the customer serves isn't great in the bar and could do with some improvement but is good compared to other surrounding hotels. the pool is great and is very refreshingly cold after a day in town. the jacuzzi like thing above the pool is great too. lacking a life guard on duty but thats okay. there is always a sunbed to use and the people there are lovely. there is a great selection of snacks and drink in the bar which is great and the entertainment there is good. rooms are what you usually get and are no better nor worse than any other surrounding 3* hotel

It's 2.38am and I'm bring tortured with loud music from the hotel restsurant. Not really slept since I've been here due to my room being on the main road - traffic, music and tiled floors make it really difficult to like this place when you're trying to have a relaxing break.

The receptionist was rude on the first day when I asked to change rooms due to it smelling of stale smoke. She then seemed to punish me with the skankiest room in Spain.

The restaurant lacks any holiday feel what so ever...and stay away from the Dogfish!

Never added a review on TA before but needed to vent my frustration. I can honestly say this is a hotel from hell for me. Very disappointing.

I must say that I am surprised at any negative comments about this hotel.I think that at this price and rating you would not find better accommodation anywhere.Having discovered this hotel quite by chance we are now regular visitors and are quite happy to keep doing so in the future. It is friendly, provides good food and has a Spanish feel to it and as we are in Spain surely that is what we seek? Please try it for yourselves and I am sure that you will agree that it provides excellent value for money

We stayed here for 3 nights in December and although the hotel was VERY quiet, the bar was quite lively at night with local Spanish people which was great. The staff were friendly and the rooms bright, modern and comfortable.
The buffet breakfast was good and included in the very reasonable room rate!
Will be visiting again for 4 nights in October this year and can highly recommend this hotel for value for money and location just a couple of minutes from the beach and restaurants in Albir.

I forgot my passport at this hotel. It was late, I was 5 hours away and supposed to leave for home the following morning. I called 3 times to ask them to check my room for it. I was in a panic. The first call, the front desk person said they couldn't do anything until the morning, then hung up (no good bye). The 2 following calls, as soon as I said hello, they hung up. In the morning I tried again to have them check, they refused. Called several times, they said they couldn't do anything until after the couple had checked out (at this point I wasn't sure if it was still there as they had rented out the room after I left). I assumed they must have cleaned the room, changed the beds. I was, naturally in a panic. I couldn't rent a car, rent a hotel room, travel by train. I was stuck and did not speak the language. They knew this and had no compassion. Fortunately someone at the same conference we attended heard of my predicament through FB and had the maid open the door (after the couple stepped out) & retrieved my passport. She brought it to Barcelona, I was able to fly out the next day with a girlfriend who stayed with me. Before all of this, they at first said we couldn't keep our vehicle in a mostly empty car lot we paid, for just 2 hours after check out as we attended the last day of the conference, their rooms were adequate, the breakfast was adequate. Their customer service - awful!

Having just returned from a weeks stay a few pros and cons ....
Pros-balcony room ... Cleans rooms with good beds... Food, you will always get something decent to eat , OK choice isn't great but it is a 3 star ... Reception staff are fabulous..Jamie went out of his way to help and the lovely girl on day shift is worked of her feet but has a smile no matter what . Good location with a short stroll to the local restaurant, bars and beach. Rooms have good enough facilities and breeding etc is clean.

Cons - the staff in the restaurant are petulant to say the least , yes they work non stop but being ignored as British visitors is totally unacceptable, on at least 5 nights out of 6 we had to wait as they dealt with local guests first who had entered the restaurant after us and actually had water etc in their tables before they sat down , bad enough that we requested drinks twice but to be finished a meal before we had our drink order even taken is extremely bad customer service. The final insult was being ignored at the bar area by the staff when I was clearly waiting , alone, and the staff dealt with a lady who had just walked up , the staff then took my order only after berating me in Spanish .... Yes I speak a little Spanish and make the effort to do so but as this hotel has guests from many nations I felt I was being treated unfairly.
Sadly the whole experience has been let down by bad customer service from one department.
Sun beds are very limited and mostly in need of repair.
If the rest of the staff were as good at their job as the reception staff then I would return but definitely there are areas of concern that need addressed and quickly or customers like myself will never be back.
