At Albir Playa Hotel & Spa, guests are often impressed by the efficient and friendly service, though some have encountered inconsistencies at reception. Its prime location garners appreciation, with easy access to local attractions and immaculate cleanliness throughout. While the rooms are spacious and clean, their dated decor and lack of certain amenities have not gone unnoticed. Opinions on value are divided due to additional charges for features like safes. The hotel's vibrant atmosphere and clean amenities are highlights, despite a small pool and limited spa hours.

This was our second visit to this hotel and we were disappointed in it this time.
We were welcomed by a bottle of cava in our room which was a nice touch. The staff in the hotel are very efficient and friendly in every area from reception to the restaurant to the room maids and always have a smile for you.
However, we felt the hotel is in need of refurbishment. The sofa bed in the room sagged in the middle, the chair was stained and sagging in the middle, the bed was VERY hard and uncomfortable. In the public areas the chairs were stained and many had cigarette burns and other damage to the upholstery.
The food in the restaurant, while plentiful, was very repetitive at dinner time and NEVER warm let alone hot. The breakfast, however, had an excellent selection.
The hotel has many positives but the seating, soft furnishings etc let it down badly.
Maid service in the rooms was among the best I have seen with the rooms smelling freshly cleaned every day. Well done housekeeping Unfortunately, the negatives this time are enough to stop us booking here again which we feel is a real shame.

Just back from a 10 day stay at this lovely hotel, the only reason I have not given 5* is 2 very small problems I felt was wrong with the hotel. The first being the room size the room was too small for a family of 3 two single beds and a pull out we felt we had no room to move around and store our clothes. We were their during a quiet period due to Covid and I must admit if it was any other July and the hotel was full it would have been near impossible to go for a swim in the pool as it is too small for the size of hotel!. However everything else is perfect! The hotel is kept spotlessly clean, staff are very friendly, the hotel is situated in the most perfect spot, you are a short walk from everything with plenty of shops and restaurants around you. The female life guard is fantastic not only does she keep her eye on all the children swimming she keeps the pool and bed area spotless spraying them down once someone leaves, she even helped my daughter to learn to swim better when there was no one else at the pool she jumped right in to show her an easier way! She puts the parents at ease knowing she is their to keep an eye on the children whilst they are in the pool. This young woman is a credit to the hotel!. Unfortunately the male lifeguard is not at the same quality we didn’t once see him do any of the above!. The blonde haired children’s entertainer is also fantastic taking the kids away to do activities giving the parents a bit of peace and quiet. You must try the Indian right across the road it’s delicious!. Great hotel!

When booking the hotel I opted to pay extra for a room with a view of the swimming pool - on the assumption that surely the swimming pool would be positioned to get lots of sunshine. Wrong! At this time of year (February) the pool is completely shaded and the room we were allocated, 440, got 30 minutes per day - if we had been on a lower floor we would have had 0 minutes. The view to the mountains from 440 was great but we wanted more sun! So, a couple of days later (hotel very busy, a lot of wedding guests on Saturday) we were able to switch to room 429 and enjoy sun on the balcony up to 4pm. If sunshine is important to you then you want an odd numbered room.
The hotel rooms are comfortable, a bit basic in terms of decoration, but good WiFi so can watch sports on the iPad, tvs have BBC1 & 2 + ITV, food is pretty decent with an excellent seafood dinner on Saturday night, not much in the way of evening entertainment. A bonus is Lidl is right next door with their usual good value wines and spirits! We’ve enjoyed the holiday and would come back.

We arrived here on 6th February 2020 for two weeks, despite it being early in the season our room was quite warm and stuffy. The Air-con is not operational at this point in the season, it only blows hot air. For two weeks we had to keep our balcony doors open day and night to get an acceptable temperature. Our room was on the 4th floor looking over the town, it had the sun all day but was quite noisy due to heavy traffic and the odd reveller in the early hours especially at the weekend.
The beds were very hard, I had emailed ahead asking for a soft mattress, we had two toppers fitted but they are thin cotton like pads, more like a mattress protector than a topper. We complained and had a third topper fitted ! (Little better) Spoke to the Manager, he told us all the beds are the same and offered another topper which never arrived!. He told us he liked a hard bed: it was good for his back.
We asked at reception where we could get ice for the room ‘try asking at the bar’ she said, that worked fine on two occasions but we were refused ice from a rather unpleasant barman called ‘Julian’ he told us it was against the rules to give guests ice !
The nighttime receptionist confirmed it was management policy !
The general decor in the room was rather tired and in need of renovation, the bar area was lacking in any atmosphere and certainly was not conducive to sitting and relaxing.
On the plus side the buffet breakfast was a good standard and had a variety of cooked and continental selection. The rooms were clean and the housekeeping was a high standard, the ladies doing the room were excellent.
We spent a morning enjoying the SPA, at €35 for two it was quite pricey but we enjoyed the experience, there is a very good variety of pools and jets to try.
The location of the hotel was fine, lots of eating options nearby and not too far from the sea. On street parking nearby was plentiful and reasonably safe.
If you like a hard bed, a hot room and don’t want ice this could be for you.
But not for us !
James and Kathleen Yule

Dear S9381JPjamesy, Firs of all we would like to thank you for your reservation in our hotel. I would like you to understand how hard it is to decide when to activate the air conditioning in the hotel. The reason is that system (as in every hotel in the area) only allows or the heating or the air conditioning at a time. We appreciate all your comments, both positive and negative that help us constantly improve the service we give our customers. In any case, we will take good note about your comments in order to improve our services. We look forward to seeing you again. Kind regards,

Great hotel and hardworking friendly staff the public areas are clean and well presented nice pool area. No need to queue for sun beds there are some that are damaged but didn’t have problem finding good ones.
The Spanish eat late which is great because the restaurant never got busy before 9 am or 9 pm.
The food was excellent great selection for meat eaters and vegetarians well catered for veg lasagne, fish every night, rice dishes and vegetables for breakfast. Bottle of wine in restaurant 10 euros which was good
We had a late flight checked out at 6pm so spent early afternoon around pool, hotel lets you use the Spa showers and supplied towels which was really appreciated.
Was on third floor overlooking pool never heard any noise from other guests at night.
The bedroom was fine I never slept on a firm mattress before and had no problem with it air conditioning worked well thankfully as it was very hot 35 degrees in day 27 degrees at night.
The bathroom needed some work to bring it up to standard skirting damaged and bottom of door but this didn’t effect my holiday it was clean and had a good shower.
I thought the hotel was well worth it for the money we paid and we had a very enjoyable relaxing holiday here.

we returned to this hotel since our last visit in Dec 2015.
room comments same as last time EXCEPT the beds are still very uncomfortable and as we both suffer with back problems did not get a good night ( glad to be back in our own bed last night).
the hotel seemed very empty and on occasions were in the restaurant on our own !
our main problem was we booked half board as before BUT as the evening is charged at €25 per head it was very poor for this price. The choice was poor and hot food was not hot any time, suspect that many decided that it was better to go elsewhere in the evening.
stated back in 2015 that the WiFi was excellent, not this time, kept dropping out and poor reception most of the time , needs updating.
although the pool was not really used because of the temperature it appeared to need cleaning.
the staff as always are welcoming.
we loved Albir as before but things need to be done at the hotel as we may never return again

Albir Playa Review
We have visited this area in the past but never stayed here. Good location if you like walking you have the advantage of two towns to visit as Altea is only 45 minutes walk away.

The Albir Playa is located 15 minutes from the front and the same distance from the tram station. The tram is perfect for exploring the coast. You can go from here to Altea, Calpe or Benidorm to name a few for a small cost.

We had room 528 at the Albir Playa, mini bar and safe included in the cost. The fridge is restocked daily with non-alcoholic drinks. The bathroom had a great standalone monsoon shower with consistent temperature and flow. A personal dislike of mine is a shower on the wall over a bath with no pressure.

The hotel has a modern feel so everything worked including the internet with good signal strength in our room which was on the fifth floor. Tv had four or five British channels.

Our balcony had a view over the pool with the mountains in the background. It had the sun from about 3 pm.

We had half board the restaurant was the usual buffet style, although the choice of foods was smaller than most hotels of this standard, we found the quality was better than many so you always found something to like. The restaurant was quite small so did get busy at times and could be very noisy.

No evening entertainment, that could be because it was out of season it is not a big thing on our list of needs anyway.

The price was very reasonable and the weather for March was fantastic we would consider using this hotel and area again in the future.

We stayed at the Albir Player for a Christmas in the sun. This was our 3rd time at this hotel even though we have been to Albir many times. While the hotel is in need of a little TLC it is a comfortable and clean hotel. We very much appreciated the bottle of cava in our room on our arrival. That was a lovely surprise! Our room overlooked the pool area which is lovely and we had an extra large balcony too. Unfortunately December isn’t the warmest month with only a few hours of sunshine so sunbathing isn’t really an option (although some brave people did give it a go around the pool). Breakfast was the only meal we had in the hotel and only had to queue once, on Christmas Day. Plenty is on offer for breakfast and you would have to be a very fussy eater to not find something to eat. The hotel doesn’t charge any extra for breakfast so if you don’t like it you’re not losing anything if you decide to go elsewhere. It would be nice to have a kettle in the room so you could enjoy a cup of coffee in the mornings before going for the breakfast but the fridge was very welcome. As travellers who use the hotel as a base to explore Albir and the surrounding area we cannot find much fault in this hotel. Breakfast is decent, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff are pleasant and attentive. We would definitely return.

The worst hotel I have stayed in holidaying in Spain in over 40 years. The Spa is good and location 5 min walk to tram station there ends any positives, Breakfast is dreadful lack of choice and quality really poor tinned fruit and not even a choice of rolls/bread it is run like a school canteen. It doesnt open till 8am and you cannot even get a coffee before then. With very few exceptions the staff are unfriendly and bordering on being rude. The rooms are service in 5 minutes and the balconies dark dingy and depressing even the supposedly sunny ones. The are very focused on their cycling holiday getting in a small lift with bicycles as well as hot sweaty cyclists is not pleasant or acceptable, The hotel is very over priced for the services and quality of accommodation etc on offer and I cannot see how it can be rated as 4 star I would not recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay in Albir.

Modern comfortable rooms, beds a little hard. Close to restaurants and shops, good bus link and train to benidorm and beyond if you fancy a change. Staff in hotel reserved but very nice. We stayed late Feb and there were loads of teen sport teams who were fine but took over the pool area which has limited sun at this time of year. Breakfast was fine with a good choice of hot and cold food, fruit, doughnuts, pastries and Cava if you want it. Didn't use the restaurant in the evening as there are so many good places nearby - Kathmandu across the road serves a great set price, 14 euros, Indian/Nepali meal - superb.
We've stayed in the Albir Playa on 3 occasions and will return.

Dear Guest; First, thank you to choose our hotel for your stay. The best way to arrive to the hotel from the aiport is a private transfer or a taxi, the hotel is 45 minutes away from there. You can get one contacting with our reception staff by email; I hope this helps you. Carmina, booking manager.
