We have stayed in this hotel for three nights in January before and after Serengeti. It is one of the most comfortable, beautiful and friendly places I’ve stayed. The rooms are huge, beds and pillows super comfy. The garden is a haven on earth. All the personnel is super kind and friendly. Service was impeccable. They have a big pool, very clean and surrounded by a beautiful garden. The food was very delicious too. I want to thank everyone who made this place possible. Hope to come back again.
My husband and I stayed here for 1 night during our Tanzania safari - it was not long enough! This property is beautiful and it cannot be captured fully in photographs. The moment you arrive you are greeted with the smell of lavender and singing birds. The room is enormous (enough for 4 adults) with a cozy wood fireplace that they will light on request. The staff are attentive, kind and accommodating and the food was exceptional. Many of the fruits and vegetables are grown on the property. Highly recommend if traveling around Ngorogoro!
I stayed here with my wife for two nights at the end of December 2022 for part of our honeymoon. The hotel and the rooms are beautiful. The food was very good. But most of all the service was exceptional. All of the staff went out of their way to make our stay extra special. The manager, Jackson, was very friendly and willing to help us with anything we asked. I would highly recommend for anyone to stay at The Retreat!
Once more we visited The Retreat in November and we had a fantastic time. The rooms are fabulous and the surrounding gardens are great for a walk. As usual the service and the food were great and they also accommodated for the requested dietary requirements.
Nice property, massive large room. The balcony though overlooks a barren garden and a high wall. Not impressive. The room itself was roomy and spacious. They lit up the fire for us which made the room very cozy and warm. The shower is a good quality one. The toiletries were acceptable and adequate. The quality of the towels is acceptable. The chef bent backward and forwards to take into account our likes and dislikes and made sure to meet our needs. He did rustle up quite a few nice spicy well presented, tastier meals to our liking. The only complaint is the WIFI. It is way too weak, and disruptive, we could hardly get any signals, only one night we were able to receive a good signal. I would not return, as I would like to experience other accommodations. However, it is not a bad place to stay at. It was nice but it is not FIVE STAR.…
We stayed at The Retreat as a pit stop to Serengeti and Ngorongoro. It was very luxurious and relaxing. The staff was very warm and welcoming. The chef came and met us to check special dietary requirements. The property itself is beautiful. Rooms are done up with impeccable style and designed for comfort. The property also has a great pool, vegetable garden and a small fruit orchard. We would surely recommend this stay!!
Amazing property that incorporates the natural environment within the compound. The villas are very modern and the surrounding grounds incorporate the incredible vegetation. They grow an array of fruits, vegetables, and coffee on the property. There is lots to do on the property with the trail and pond that they have created.
The best hotel in Karatu. We stayed in the family room and the beds are really comfortable, perfectly clean room and bathroom and they make sure that you don’t have mosquitoes in the room. They also have the best employees. Jackson, Judith, Domalita and all the others! mr Singh makes delicious food for sure and they take care of lunch boxes when you go for safari to the Ngorongoro krater In this hotel you are not a room number. The whole team is in personal contact with you. We will definitely come back and we hope to see the same employee team again. Since the team can make your time or kill your time during the stay. They gave us the best time! Family Yildiz
It is the best place where we have ever stayed. We stayed just for a night, but the Retreat people were so humble and welcoming that we thought we had known each other for years. I should not say any single person's name here because everyone is excellent. The Villa we stayed in was fantastic. I would love to strongly recommend this place for everyone to stay. We will again go there and stay for a few days to enjoy the campus and the beauty of nature.
The website photos don’t lie — the Retreat is very much as advertised in terms of rooms, public areas and amenities, all at the very highest standards. What sets this apart from many other other accommodations is the high level of personal service; from the general manager to reception to dining director and others, we were individually addressed and asked early and often if everything was to our satisfaction. I should note the Retreat is not located immediately alongside the Ngorongoro crater; I recommend spending at least one night separately on the rim for the most convenient game drive opportunities. There are some nearby Ngorongoro attractions, however, like the elephant caves and falls walk that are quite convenient from here. Our two-night stay came close to the middle of our safari, and it provided a most welcome opportunity to relax and recharge. We are so happy we stayed here and cannot speak highly enough of our experience.…
