This is a great place right next to Kerala's lakes and backwaters. It's relatively quiet and unspoilt. Vijesh and family make you feel really welcome. There's lots of interesting mini trips such as canoeing at sunrise and visiting local village industries. Breakfast is included and you can also pay for extra homemade tasty meals. Well worth a visit.

When we planned our Munroe island ride accidentally we read about their canoe rides . Seeing the reviews we decided to take up the ride . We interacted with Vijeesh over phone and he guided us to reach a location opposite to their homestay . Vimalan uncle , (Vijeesh’s ) father was waiting there . He guided us to the canoe and our journey starts .

We were 3 adults , myself, hubby and my father and two infants ( 4.5 and 1.5 year old ones ) . Vimalan uncle was very nice to us and he was well aware of the history of the place as well , He took us on this amazing ride . We were taken through the small canals where the bigger boats cannot enter . There were many smaller bridges where we all had to bend / sometimes even sit down to make sure our heads don’t hit the bridge . He took us via all the narrow canals and explained about the island and man made canal .

The island canoe ride is a must try. we went in the evening and was able to see the sunset as well . The canoe can glide through the narrow zigzag canals and pass under the naturally formed mangrove arches and short bridges. A trip to Munroe Island will leave you mesmerized and will be the highlight of your tour in this region

Vijeesh and his family are warm, friendly and hard working hosts! A great place to stay. A great experience. A very clean room. A fun communal area to hang out. Delicious meals. And lots of entertainment provided by Vijeesh. He made the stay fun and informative, providing village tours and incredible canoe tours through the backwaters.

Munroe Island was one of the best parts of our 3 month trip. Vijeesh was a great host, always going the extra mile to make sure we had a special time whilst staying at the homestay. He gave us the real munroe experience with a jam packed schedule: canoeing, kayaking, rope swing and cycling. He took us to local events and secret spots with beautiful scenary. The food and homestay itself was amazing, clean and well located. We could not have asked for more from Vijeesh and munroe island homestay.
Thank you Vijeesh and hopefully see you soon!

Munroe island is beautiful and this was one of my favourite places to stay in India! Vijeesh and his family are very welcoming and helpful, the authentic Keralan food was delicious, and the rooms / communal areas were very nice. Don’t miss the sunrise canoe tour which was a real highlight of my whole trip and well worth the early start!

Perfect stay. The homestay is very quiet a bit behind the road (that is quiet too in fact). Nothing fancy but rooms are comfortable and clean, good fans, but if you need airco, it's possible (little extra). Vijeesh mom's food is as good as announced, and varied. The morning and evening boat trips are super nice, if you can do only once we did prefer the evening one. We had the chance to have a kathakali show, it was authentic in my opinion. Munroe is definitely a good choice, more eco friendly, more quiet, we finally did not go to Allepey.

Vijeesh is quite a character, and he and his family made our trip extra special. He has a wicked sense of humor, and is passionate about the wildlife in the backwaters. The canoe trip to watch the sunrise over the lake was magical, and the NYE celebrations were unforgettable.
He even made the walk to the Mocktail shop fascinating with his knowledge of the local flora and fauna.
His Mother and Sister fed us with the most delicious food, and it was all very affordable. Still waiting for the recipes!!

Over 3 months travelling South India as a family Vijeesh's place was one of the very best stays in a totally wonderful trip.
Vijneesh is a fantastic host and his manner totally genuine; everyone staying really enjoyed his company and he seems to love having guests. He made our whole stay wonderful and we took advantage of all he offered and made available over the 4 days we spent at this beautiful spot. We loved it, he gave so much and his simple homestay is totally marvellous.

Definitely the best way to enjoy the backwaters!
We were afraid of the too touristic water boats in Alleppey, so we decided to go to Munroe Island instead.

We stayed with Virjeesh, such a nice genuine person with a great sense of humor, that truly makes sure you take the most out of the days you are spending with him.
For the 3 days we spent there, we ate together (delicious food!!! prepared by his sister Adira), we walked around Munroe Island, and we enjoyed some sunrises and sunsets in the channels in a cannoe or kayak.

We watched them cook and learn how to make those delicious meals (we tried to help but it was not easy), we learned about Kabaddi and watched a game together, we talked a lot. We were also lucky with the guests but they really made is feel at home!

Definitely recommend!!

Wow! This is a gem of a homestay and Vijeesh and his family are fabulous hosts - so friendly, fun and welcoming. Our bedroom was spacious, clean and comfortable with a spotless en-suite bathroom. There is a shared outside terrace for dining or just sitting and relaxing. Vijeesh and his family were so friendly and welcoming and their homecooked Kerala breakfasts and dinners were amazing! Vijeesh also provided us with everything we needed to know and where to visit in and around Munroe Island. The highlight of our stay was when he took us on a dawn boat trip through the backwaters to explore the beauty of the island and its wildlife and to witness the spectacular sun rise. It was all fabulous and made for an unforgettable holiday. Thank you Vijeesh.

Hi, We did the Munroe backwaters homestay and it was brilliant, you get to do canoe trips on the backwaters (so peaceful). Vijesh the owner at Munroe backwaters is absolutely brilliant. We visited Alleppey after this and decided not to do a houseboat due to hearing not great reviews. Hope this helps!

No view of the river. As it is set back from the road it is quieter. It was our favourite home stay in all of Kerala and their backwater tour will take you through all of the little canals. It is an amazing place
