Did this Canoe trip with my family. It was one of our most memorable experiences. Vijeesh’s Dad expertly guided us through the tour. Best way to experience Munroe island. Thank you Vijeesh. All the best to your family. Will definitely use your home stay also in the future.
This is the best way to see Keralan backwaters. Rajeesh was so much fun and made our stay the highlight of our month trip to India. our 3 days at his homestay consisted of SUP, canoeing and kayaking at sunrise and sunset (which does have a fee) and chilling in the hammocks or room (with AC) during the day. His mother's cooking is also excellent and we had breakfast lunch and dinner there every day. We couldn't recomend this place enough. It was awesome and totally stunning.
OMG.. this was the most beautiful piece of our trip. We are a club Mahindra member and were stayingin Club . I will give a real review Club its always the BEST PLACE to STAY when it comes to location , rooms but is really expensive when it comes to Travel desk booking and tours. We were about to book a tour , it was just then my husband checked Trip advisor and we found out about vijeesh, who conducts this Canoe tour. Thanks to the buddie who also shared his number(09048176186 )on the review. We connected to him in night & he arranged for a pick up as well as a guided tour. We were to go for Sunrise so we were to report @530. We were only 3 of us so we got a Auto riskshaw pick up @700rs. He was a bit late and we reached the pick up destination somewhere around 6.00a.m. We were greeted by Mr. Vimalan vigeesh's fathere. He was a cool uncle with all the information and stories to share. Lovely smile , he shared his experiance of how at the age of 16 it was Vigeesh's idea to start this venture and now over 19 years they are running this successfully. One thing to admire was over these years Vimanal sir has learnt so many languages.. although he was not so fluent but so nicely he communicated everything with us in ENGLISH. He gave so much information.. about locals, fruits , trees. Icing on the cream we stopped at a place duing the tour for TEA... We mumbaikars always long for a cutting chai.. chai although not so great but the place added to the value. it was a 2.5 hour trip which everyone visiting Ashtamudi is a must do and they charged us 1600/- for the trip. Thank you so much for a wonderful experiance.. thanks to vimalan sir for clicking some beautiful memories .. He also commented on which cap i should wear for a better picture...........all of us loved this experiance ...travellers do this trip. Next time we will also go to his homestay ..…
We booked two rooms which were comfortable, clean, peaceful and relaxing. Vijeesh and family were friendly and welcoming. The homemade food cooked by Vijeesh's mom was very tasty. The sunset canoeing with Vijeesh's father was really amazing ride. I highly recommend this homestay.
When we planned our Munroe island ride accidentally we read about their canoe rides . Seeing the reviews we decided to take up the ride . We interacted with Vijeesh over phone and he guided us to reach a location opposite to their homestay . Vimalan uncle , (Vijeesh’s ) father was waiting there . He guided us to the canoe and our journey starts . We were 3 adults , myself, hubby and my father and two infants ( 4.5 and 1.5 year old ones ) . Vimalan uncle was very nice to us and he was well aware of the history of the place as well , He took us on this amazing ride . We were taken through the small canals where the bigger boats cannot enter . There were many smaller bridges where we all had to bend / sometimes even sit down to make sure our heads don’t hit the bridge . He took us via all the narrow canals and explained about the island and man made canal . The island canoe ride is a must try. we went in the evening and was able to see the sunset as well . The canoe can glide through the narrow zigzag canals and pass under the naturally formed mangrove arches and short bridges. A trip to Munroe Island will leave you mesmerized and will be the highlight of your tour in this region…
Excellent experience on the backwaters. Nice, friendly people. Enjoyed the peace and serenity in between mangrove trees. Saw kingfisher, eagle and otter too. Nice option for a short trip with friends and family.
Over 3 months travelling South India as a family Vijeesh's place was one of the very best stays in a totally wonderful trip. Vijneesh is a fantastic host and his manner totally genuine; everyone staying really enjoyed his company and he seems to love having guests. He made our whole stay wonderful and we took advantage of all he offered and made available over the 4 days we spent at this beautiful spot. We loved it, he gave so much and his simple homestay is totally marvellous.
A very enjoyable stay at this special place. Very nice home cooked meals and clean, comfortable en-suite rooms. Exploring the river in a canoe was a wonderful experience. Our host, Vijeesh, was very helpful and an exceptionally nice man.
We consciously avoided going to Alleppy to see the backwaters, it just seemed too crowded and too packaged. This place is very, very different. The rooms are simple but perfectly adequate, there was a continual change of guests all of whom were great and chatty and happily travelling a little bit off the beaten-track to do something different, the food is good but not outstanding ......... but what makes this place special is the vibe and Vikeesh who runs the place. There are paddle boards, bikes you can use, water-refits, Vikeesh is tuned into what was going on locally and very happy to take anyone that was interested out to see a festival, concert or event in the evening - just a lovely guy and very amusing. They consciously do not use motorised boats to minimise the noise and pollution so all the trips are is canoes - this lets you get up into very small Backwaters and sail quietly through the middle of a village. The sunset and sunrise tours are R600 a head but last for over 3 hours and are just great with the sunrise tour being the better one (if you have to choose). It is quite difficult to pre book stuff and my advice is - don’t try. Just go and you will get fitted in somehow and the people staying were great. What makes this place special is not that the rooms are great or the food was excellent but it is a bit off the beaten track, is run by a unique character, is integrated into the local village system and is - so far - fairly undiscovered.…
Stayed here for one night but definitely could have stayed longer! Really nice accommodation. Vijeesh is such a good guy & so helpful. The food his mum cooks at the homestay is incredible! I would definitely recommend the sunrise canoe through the stunning backwaters. I'll 100% stay here again when I visit Munroe Island!
