Location : The hotel is located near by Salim Ali bird Sanctuary @ Thattekad. It is easy to locate as it is on the main road itself you won't miss the name board if you are self driving. Try to reach the hotel before 5pm as you can expect wild animals enroute as it gets dark. We visited this place during Dec 2020. The rooms are cottage like, sufficient for family for 4 ( 2 adults and 2 Children) , the food is good , tasty , sufficient quantity & economical. As attraction/recreation the hotel has few farm animals like Pony, Poultry birds like Hens, Ducks & Turkey. There are Rabbits , Budgies , Dog and others. You can plan to visit Mamalakandam ( a remote village through forest trail) Boothekandu dam Inchathotty Suspension Bridge and other places Hotel can arrange Jeep etc. as the terrain esp. to Mamalakandam is risky for private cars . Please remember since it is forest area it gets dark quickly so plan you day tour and other activities accordingly. Also there aren't much of options for food around if you like to skip the hotel food.…

This was our second visit and it was wonderful. Peaceful stay and very co operative &friendly staffs and delicious food.Moreover that the owners and manger were very friendly and helpful.Very comfortable place especially for the families. Our little daughter who is just one nd half year old really enjoyed there. And a very special thanks to the staffs who prepared food for our daughter. Looking forward to meet u all.. And all the very best for the entire team.

Very poor and bad service, rude staff behave very unprofessional way. Property looking new but not worth the money spending it. Not recommended to family’s or any other kind of travellers. Please stay out of this property and save your money for better resorts are valuable in better price.

I wanted to write about our recent visit to Thattekad and our stay at the Budgies Cottage for 3 nights. It was absolutely wonderful. The primary purpose of our visit was for bird photography and the Salim Ali bird sanctuary is less than 5 minutes walk away from this place. We had our family accompany us too, but since they are not keen on birding, they spent their time with the farm animals that are present on this property. There’s a horse, a dog, an Emu, Guinea fowls, parakeets, love birds, Bunnies and whole lot of other animals too. If you are interested in cycling around the place, cycles are available too. The GM there, Mr. Abilash, is extremely focussed on the comfort and well being of the guest. He even arranged for us, a last minute private river cruise on the river Periyar and it was en enjoyable one hour spent cruising the river and checking out the wildlife. For people interested in Bird photography and general birding, this would be an ideal location to stay in and at your request, Abilash will also arrange for a birding guide, whose services we used and would highly recommend him. So be it birding, or for a weekend stay or even for that matter a relaxed getaway from everyday mundane existence, a stay at Budgies Cottage will have you recover fully. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Thattekad and would not hesitate to go back there on our next visit.…

Very friendly crew,well maintained rooms, reasonable tariff, delicious Kerala cuisine. Good ambience, guided well regarding places of interest, flexible with the timings of food according to our birding trips. Children can enjoy cycling, swimming, shuttle, carrom, lovebirds inside the campus. Space for driver too! Unforgettable stay, looking forward to stay again. Highly recommended for birders.

Me and my wife went to Thattekad for bird watxy and staying in thisnproperty. We stayed for two nights and had a very pleasing stay. Hotel manager Mr. Abhilash is super helpful and friendly , he can go out of his way to help you, guide you and arrange for you as if you are his family member. Similarly, each n ever hotel staff are very courteous and sincere. Property is brand new n mazing, with super clean rooms n washrooms. Both exterior and interior looks good. Property has private garden , swimming pool n has different varieties of domestic and imported birds as well. Though I'm not a fan of caged birds and animals, still keeping and maintained the varieties is a big deal. Children's will love it. Food was good n tasty including breakfast n other meals. This place is truly a hidden gem in south India. Just steps from beautiful forest trails, bird sanctuary, and butterfly gardens. The staff made us feel just like home, and the room was superbly clean - most comfortable bed I've slept in in months! Thanks for such a wonderful stay :)
