We are a family run homestay on the beach front in Kannur, North Kerala, India. This charming place in a quiet and secluded area, very close to a pristine and mostly deserted Thottada beach is also situated by a small river. On a beach amongst lush green coconut groves and with a view of the sea, it offers the best in food, relaxation and comfort. With 4 double rooms and a triple room, the beach house has been every travelers delight for over a decade. All the rooms offer a breath taking view of the beach and the sea. Meals are set and conducted at a communal dining area at fixed timings. There are no room service, TV or porters. Wifi is available. Activities include walking on the long stretch of golden beach, among thick coconut plantation through the village, basking in the sun and sand, bird watching, boating, angling, sightseeing or simply watching the village life go by.

Detailed Reviews
In 6 weeks of travel in India, Kannur Beach House is a highlight. Accommodation is straightforward, spotless and authentic, the food is both plentiful and delicious. Meals are at a communal table with the hosts and other guests. As a solo traveller I found this a welcome change to the anonymity of some places. The hosts are also charming, engaging, well travelled and very helpful. There are fabulous uncrowded beaches, a lagoon to explore by canoe, and genuinely friendly locals. When in India, I will go out of my way to stay here again. Thottada is a real place not spoiled by tourism, long may it remain so.

We have stayed at the Kannur Beach house four times now and intend to return again when we can - the location is the best, the beach house is located right next to the beautiful, unspoilt and mostly empty Thottada beach. A long stretch of golden sand backed with coconut palms, and warm sea. The food is another highlight, Rosie daily organises the menu of local Keralan food for breakfast and dinner, the guests around the table gives nothing but compliments of the tasty cuisine.
What adds to the reason why this home stay is a must to visit, are the hosts Nazir &Rosie, who do everything to make your visit a memorable stay - having a font of local knowledge they will give you suggestions what to do - if the beach isn’t enough! They are kind and accommodating where possible. Perfect hosts for a perfect place.

Our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 school age kids) is on a sabbatical / world schooling year and we stayed with Rosi and Nazir for 10 amazing nights in Jan 2020. We were first timers and met other guests who have come back again and again, and we now understand why. It’s an incredible location in a small village in northern Kerala, with pristine, empty beaches and nearby coves. Well worth the 5-6 hour train ride north from Kochi (there is also an airport in Kannur). Homemade breakfasts and dinners are superb, healthy buffets with a variety of traditional and creative dishes. Every meal felt like a special occasion. We stayed in a simple, cozy room on the top floor with a double bed, single bed & attached bathroom about 15 meters behind the front rooms, with sea & sunset views from the balcony. They provided us with an extra cot & mattress which worked well for our family. The shaded community dining table was great for us to do art, write, read, etc during the hot afternoons. Rosi gave us great suggestions for a yoga teacher, Theyyam, the Loknath handloom weaving center, and a visit with the local gold/silversmith. The morning birds are amazing in the backwaters- do try out the canoe with homemade paddle. We also got great tips for the next leg of our journey. Feeling so grateful to Rosi and Nazir and their lovely & diligent staff for treating us like family. Our kids say they give Kannur Beach House 100 out of 5 stars!

This was our 6th time at KBH and it did not disappoint. We stayed for 3 weeks this time which flew by in a second.
The food just gets better and better. Soo healthy and tasty breakfasts were to die for.
This time a new ayrverdic center has opened practically next door which was really great, I went for a full body oil massage and loved it, it was a good price also at 1200 rupees.
Also a new parotta/tea stall has opened at thottada west which we liked for lunch very much, it's new so not always open or available but when it was we were pleased.
We went to see the goldsmith next door who made a wedding ring for us from silver which we had engraved and was a bargain price. We loved watching him at work a total master craftsman and a local ledge.
And what can I say about Rosi and Naz their hospitality is out of this world, Rosi works so hard to make sure everyone is happy, she goes out of her way to make bookings for trains, taxis and rickshaws for everyone.
I feel like I've been at a yoga retreat every time at KBH, I'm totally zen and fully relaxed. Until next time xxxx

Rosi could not have been more helpful; from answering my questions before making a booking to arranging an airport transfer. She called the driver as we left the airport to check if I had arrived and whether I would like to stop for lunch on my way to the house. Upon arrival I was welcomed into a beautiful beach home with all the home comforts, including a guest kitchen where we were able to make a cup of tea or our own meal. Breakfast and dinner were provided daily, and what a feast of the most delicious home cooked South Indian food. Scrumptious! My room was upstairs with a glorious view of the beach. A balcony allowed me to enjoy the view from my comfortable room. The house is a short distance across a bridge to a quiet beach where I swam in the early morning and walked daily. The house was a haven created by my hosts Rosi and Nazir who warmly welcome travellers for a night or a month. They made it possible to experience all there was in the area and made whatever arrangements their guests required to have one of the best holidays I have had in India; Indian hospitality at its best! Many thanks for a real home experience in India

Yet another superb visit. Everything that has been said previously is true. Spectacular location by an empty beach, backwaters that give a glimpse of real Kerala life and - above all else - fab and accommodating hosts. A truly special place with special hosts. I can not recommend this place highly enough.

My sister and I were lucky to spend a whole week at Kannur Beach House doing a yoga course. It was, for both of us, one of the most relaxing and beautiful trips of our lives. And much of it was thanks to:
The house, which is beautiful and perfect to lead a simple and enjoyable life.
The location, which is in a forest adjacent to a river and a minute away from the beach. There were lots of birds, which made the stay very interesting and fun, and also the beach is almost empty, with amazing sunsets. Also, a couple of small towns are 15 minute walks away and it is well connected to Kannur by a short bus trip.
And most of all, the stay was great thanks to the hosts: Rosi and Nazir. Rosi is an amazing cook, and every meal was a new discovery of the colorful and rich indian gastronomy (most probably the best part of the day). And Nazir’s conversation was also one of the best parts of the stay.
In conclusion, this is the perfect place to reconnect with oneself and the present moment.
Thank you Rosi and Nazir :)

If you want a taste of paradise then KBH is the place to stay. We stayed at the beach house with friends earlier this month for 8 day’s. It wasn’t enough! We left rested, well fed and some lovely memories of chatting around the dinner table with new like minded travellers. The food is amazing and Rosie takes you through each dish. The natural views and the sound of the birds remind you of living so close to nature. To see one kingfisher can be amazing but during our time there we seen many every day. I have to mention the hosts Rosie and Nazir, they are so helpful and and answer all those questions that you collect whilst traveling in Kerala. The beach which is a minute away from the house is completely unspoilt with palm trees, and sand. A swim before breakfast such a luxury is a must, followed by a swim after breakfast! We will be back! Thank you Rosie and Nazir for sharing your beautiful home.

So many good things to say about my stay here it's impossible to fit it into just one review. Let's start with the beautiful location: only a two-minute walk to the gorgeous beach which is perfect for swimming- warm clean water that you won't want to get out of. Even if you decide to stay at the house there is a wonderful view of the water and scenery which you can enjoy while relaxing in a comfy hammock. The food: every meal was delicious, my personal favorite was breakfast. But most importantly, the family running the homestay: some of the kindest people you will ever meet. I loved the conversations we would have or how I would feel right at home when I was there. I am so thankful to have been able to stay here and met such great people :-)))))))))

❤️ Kannur Beach House ❤️
Having spent 10 days staying with Rosi and Nazir, I feel confident in saying that this was one of the best experiences I have enjoyed on this trip to India. This is a true Homestay with wonderful thoughtful hosts. They served the most delicious variety of home-cooked food and even catered for my food allergy. Sandy Thottanda beach is unspoilt and reached by crossing a little bridge over a creek and following a path, perhaps a three minute walk from the house to the shoreline. Tucked away in amongst the trees there are a few houses nearby, however the area and the beach do not feel crowded or in any way like a tourist destination. My room was simply furnished with a comfortable bed and a balcony with comfy wicker chairs and an amazing view through the palm trees to enjoy the dawn chorus or the sunset, the ensuite wet room was tiled and fitted with a western toilet. There were inviting hammocks amongst the lush foliage. Rosi was a mine of information and helped me with train tickets, taxis, tuktuks, all kinds of recommendations, Ayurvedic treatments etc. Incidentally I was there with friends for a painting and yoga retreat, I stayed on after the retreat, I always felt very safe and welcome. I will definitely return for some more Kannur Beach House Magicđź’«
