The view from Emerald lodge is truly fantastic. The rooms are nicely decorated and clean. And the staff are friendly and hospitable. One thing we weren't happy about was agreeing on a very high price for a special BBQ to celebrate my husband's birthday, we were expecting a celebration feast with lots of fish. In reality the BBQ was very basic and we were left hungry for fish. We understand Covid is a hard time but when a loyal customer pays a lot for an experience it's important to deliver something considered and special. I don't know where all the money went, certainly not on fish and 40th birthdays don't happen twice. But we really like the lodge and will be back, just make sure you negotiate if you want something that isn't on the menu.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights to visit 2011 UNESCO Konso. With uncertain reservations using the website, confirmation was necessary with their Addis Ababa office, but our request to be picked up at the AMH Airport did not get passed along. Arriving late, after a local person called the hotel from the airport, we met the manager to iron out uncertainties and acquire our reserved "classic double with breakfast and transfer". Our bungalow was in the center of its group with a patio view over the Rift Valley's muddy Lake Abaya, clear Lake Chamo, and the expansive Nechi Sar National Park. Accessible by a ramp, clean and quiet #10 had a comfortable netted king with 2 nightstands, 2 chairs with table, desk and chair with 2 waters each day, refer, closet, and large bathroom with soap. The 7 AM breakfast buffet included eggs of your choice, juice, fruit, cereal, breads, warming trays of crepes and other foods, and hot drinks, with local foods on request. It's served in the beautiful restaurant sited at the apex of the incredible 200 degree, 10 mile cliff side view of green mountains and water, without a man made structure in sight. We had our lunch here each day (cream of chicken soup, grilled chicken, grilled fish, and tuna pizza), overseen by the skilled chef, his cool and young waitress/waiter staff. English is spoken at reception (convenient ATM) with able porters to move bags throughout the shaded concrete walkways accessing the 70 rooms of various reconditioned lodging with more units now undergoing reconstruction. The expansive mature acreage of flower gardens includes a huge curvlinear pool and thatched hut bar with satellite TV, both with new restrooms, playground, well outfitted exercise room and massage facility. No doubt this historic property, that caters to guided couples and groups, will be completed in the future (likely include two renovated event halls), hopefully with a workable email reservation system and home office coordination, to make this a full service value stay at $70-86/night.
