Nestled by the beach, Novotel Goa Dona Sylvia Resort garners appreciation for its attentive service and impeccable cleanliness, with guests lauding the pristine beach and well-kept rooms. While the resort's festive atmosphere delights many, it does receive some criticism for less lively vibes during quieter periods.
The value proposition has received mixed feedback, with billing discrepancies mentioned, yet some guests find the pricing fair. Amidst the critiques of occasional dated decor in rooms, the resort's location and array of amenities—including direct beach access—stand out as highlights for a relaxing getaway.

One has to accept that the journey out is not much fun. The new airport is further from Novotel Dona Sylvia in South Goa than the previous one and the transfer is two hours in a bumpy coach. On arrival we were speedily booked in and shown our room [No 2] which was modest, ground floor and very accessible to pool and restaurant. Very quiet however with no noise disturbance at all. Slightly short on clothing storage place but a good sized shower and WC room. Our bed was certainly firm but the next day we asked and were supplied with an excellent 'topper' and softer pillows, which proved very satisfactory. The main pool is large, deep [with a shallow end] , clean and without unwanted music at most times. A good supply of sun loungers with umbrellas and no shortage of clean towels. We ate solely at the Seagull buffet restaurant as the choice of Goan food was wide ranging and full of wonderful flavours. You are ushered in to your table by usually the serene and charming Ashita or her smiling colleague Naong. We were cared for by the attentive and friendly Ravi who immediately learned of our liking for, and ordered our garlic naan breads. All staff that we came across were helpful and charming. From the night time security guards to the gardeners, pool workers, reception and bar staff. Special mention must be made for Vivesh, our room cleaner, who could not have been more attentive and produced wonderful towel sculptures on our bed each night. Weddings are obviously an important income stream for the hotel and Goan weddings last over two or three days.Because of the large gardens, we did not feel restricted by the two weddings that took place during our ten day holiday although a cooking class was cancelled as we suspected the chef was on duty for the wedding. A few minutes walk through the gardens leads to the beach which is glorious. Soft sand, extremely clean, no seaweed and 100 yards to the right, away from the parasols and loungers supplied free by the two 'shacks' [although they expect you to buy drinks etc from them for the privilege], the beach stretches out for many miles.[I think 25 kms was mentioned]. Portions of the beach are watched over by lifeguards as apparently there can be an undertow/current. The evening meal is accompanied by usually a duo of live singers performing many of our favourite songs. We chose to dance on occasions but were the only ones! A return trip is a definite possibility - for peace, warmth, good food and the delightful staff. Karen, the TUI rep is excellent. Available, knowledgeable and friendly.

It was our first time in Goa but I can honestly say it will not be our last . After a long transfer from the airport it was lovely to be greeted by smiling staff that quickly took our luggage , gave us all a bindi (the little red mark on the forehead) and offered us a much needed cold drink . Our room was a little dated but very clean and had a spacious bathroom with large rainfall shower. Safe , fridge and coffee making facilities were all there along with a TV and aircon. The bed is probably the largest I've slept in and was very comfy , a proper single bed was provided for our daughter (not a fold out thankfully). The food in the main buffet is fresh and tasty but be aware if you don't like Indian food this could be an issue for you. The chefs will make you something if the buffet food doesn't take your fancy but there is usually a good choice of meals on offer. The pool bar doubles up as Mama Mias restaurant for dinner (booking is required) and is highly recommended. We didn't go to the other on site restaurant (Kebabs & Curries) but were told by other guests it was also very good. If you don't fancy staying in the hotel the village has lots of very good restaurants and bars. The beach is a few minutes stroll through the beautiful grounds where you will find numerous beach shacks serving food and drinks at very reasonable prices . The pool area was always spotless and the lifeguards were always on duty . There never seemed to be a shortage of sun loungers whatever time you wanted one which is a refreshing change from the 0630 alarm to put the towels out . What makes this hotel so fantastic is the staff . I have never been to a hotel with such an amazing team of people. From the moment we arrived to the minute we left they never failed to be so polite , happy and friendly. Rakesh needs a special shout though (I hope he reads this) . The man is an absolute credit to this hotel , always smiling , professional and incredibly friendly even when he was rushed off his feet (which was most of the time !) . The amount of people we spoke to who have been to this hotel year on year is testament to the dedication of all the staff All in all one of the most relaxing holidays we have ever had and one of the only hotels I would consider returning to !

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
After a 9 hour flight and 2 hour taxi transfer the cold Kingfisher beer on arrival was welcomed
Our room wasn't ready so we sat in the garden area until it was and indulged in a few more
Unfortunately our safe wouldn't work so a call to reception and 20 minutes later a whole new safe installed!!
3 days later the loo was fully blocked, this happened every 48 hours. We were offered an alternative room however we really didn't want to have to repack and move so maintenence would turn up with a large plunger...the problem is further down the pipes so I hope this will be investigated and resolved for future guests
Food in the buffet ( seagulls) was amazing. I loved the dosa at breakfast and the wide choice of Indian, goan, Chinese and western food was really good
We ate at Mamma Mias and this too was great for lunchtime salads and evening steaks
The beach was huge with some days crashing waves and other days like a millpond and the sunsets were beautiful
Beach shacks a plenty and again some lovely food and cheap drinks
The main pool gets busy so we used the smaller one a few times for a relaxing siesta
2 weddings were noisy but great to watch. Conferences were loud and busy
Local shops, bars and a carnival all made for a fun stay
We booked John's Boat Tours direct for their overnight trip and had a fabulous time
It was hot every day and we had a good holiday but won't stay here again as Goa has so much to offer
Staff were attentive, professional and very helpful from the gardners to the bar staff

Booked the place with great expectations. The hotel has no valet parking and you have to find your own parking space within the premises. The check in time is 3 pm? which can get a bit frustrating if you land up early. I had booked the room for three people but the hotel did not even offer me an extra bed even when enquired about the status of my reservations for three and was informed that the booking was to be accepted as what was done by me. There is no in house laundry services and is outsourced and becomes inconvenient if you require fresh clothes for children especially. I was allowed to have a buffet at around 10.30pm, and upon helping myself I was informed that the buffet is closing and they could only wait for five minutes which was quite annoying, but the staff tried to be helpful after I gave a strong feedback. The bar tenders are extremely friendly and courteous. The activities at the premises is impressive and keeps the children engaged all day. However some sense less guests were allowed to enter the pool without a proper swimming gear which was quite unhygienic. This should be looked into strictly. An overall average experience and I feel it could go a long way to make things memorable for its guests.

We stayed at Dona Sylvia for two weeks in November. One disappointing discovery on arrival was that the Goan officials hadn’t issued licenses to the beach shacks so there were no facilities on the beach. However the Dona Sylvia has two lovely pools, well staffed with helpful attendants who helped to find sunbeds and umbrellas whenever we asked and supplied pool towels. The gardens are lovely and constantly being maintained by an army of friendly gardeners. The rooms are all in small Mediterranean style villa blocks. They had good showers, comfy beds and effective aircon. They were well stocked with clean towels, drinking water and toiletries by very hard working housekeeping staff especially Rosanna and Dhanraj. The food was excellent with a great choice of different options at each meal. We had great table service for drinks etc especially from Ravi and Tanmoy. We also ate at Mama Mias several lunchtimes with equally attentive service from Rakesh and Sagnik. Our all inclusive package was good value and we booked several tours with our Tui rep Karen which were enjoyable. We also had an excellent cruise with Kris’s Cruises which we would highly recommend. We hope to visit Goa again and wouldn’t hesitate to stay at Dona Sylvia.

This resort was overall an unexpectedly brilliant stay.
All of the rooms are spaced relatively far from one another, which provided some privacy. They were surrounded by vegetation and trees, which provided a pleasant atmosphere. The staff also let us tie a hammock to the trees.
The rooms and washrooms were well maintained regularly by the housekeeping, who were very friendly, and made a surprise for the kids.
Special thanks to Mr. Sachin, Mr. Wellesley and Ms. Rosaline
There was a private entrace to Cavelossim Beach from the resort itself, and it was in walkable distance from all of the rooms. The beach was constantly monitored by lifeguards and it was very clean.
There was also a large swimming pool in the resort, with depths ranging from 1 or 2 feet, all the way to 6'8". This made it welcoming to everyone.
The staff was very kid-friendly, and they organized many activities for children. The entire resort was filled with activities like cycling, archery, and a kids area with board games and table tennis.
Special thanks to Mr. Abhishek and the Kebabs and Kurries restaurant team for making us an excellent lunch.

My wife and I booked a 3 week stay at this resort with Tui. We particularly wanted a “wheel chair friendly” resort and in the main this was delivered without issue. Most of the areas are accessible apart from a terraced bar area and the games room, neither of which were a major issue for us. The Spa has 3 or 4 steps, but the hotel provided a ramp after we had raised the point, so full credit for their response. Our room was in the extensive garden of the hotel on the ground floor, chalet style, a walk in shower complete with plastic chair was provided.
The hotel has large beach fronted gardens, with direct access to the sea and bars etc. Our regret, in this regard is that the beach is not wheelchair friendly for obvious reasons, but if a wooden walkway or similar was available, it would have added to the experience as the sea/beach area was very appealing, but alas, not to be. We were “all inclusive” which meant we quite a considerable time in the dining areas which were buffet style with plenty of dishes on offer, although some of the curries were on the “spicy” side. However the kitchen/service staff were brilliant and would happily make a particularly dish to order if requested. In fact the Dining Room staff were all fantastic, nothing was too much trouble and they were one of the reasons we would happily return.
The friendly TUI rep was also on hand to offer advice and listen to any issues, one of which was the number of weddings being held. This was explained as being post Covid and many weddings were being re-scheduled. Whilst the music/noise was sometimes excessive, it didn’t detract too much from our overall enjoyment.
The hotel location is perfect in that outside the main entrance, there are shops/restaurants/supermarkets within a short walk. We had a couple of trips out, one to the capital Panji, which is about an hours drive away with a friendly taxi driver.
It is not often that we return to a hotel, but with the Donna Sylvia we both agreed that a return visit could be on the cards and, coming from us, that is a compliment!

Nothing can beat the beauty of this nicely designed property. The beach is clean and access is very aesthetic too. The housekeeping staff will take good care of you and also leave artful works ( Sarthak in particular) for you in the room as a surprise. Very caring front office too. Thanks to Ruby for helping me. I think the live music every night was a bit too loud and too much for me, I could not hear myself talk and vacation is also about chatter over dinner with your family. The buffet is splendid but some more staff will help the busy mornings. Please get back the floaties in the swimming pool and the bicycles you used to have! All in all a lovely stay made possible by Gita. Gita has to be the most charming, warm and helpful manager at the resort. She really is the sunshine of the resort. It felt like we wer coming home because of her. A special thanks to Gita. She is the best!

We recently spent 2 weeks at Dona Sylvia, as first-time visitors. The hotel and grounds are well maintained and we found all the staff friendly from the housekeeping staff, waiters and pool boys right through to the security staff and gardeners. Whilst we cannot name them all, special thanks for great service go to our room cleaner Dhanraj, to Abdul and Ismail in the Seagull restaurant and to Rakesh at the Mama Mia. We also received outstanding service from Karvesh in the upstairs bar. The pool and surroundings are lovely and clean and there’s a wide choice of food in the Seagull restaurant, which is beautifully presented. We loved being able to walk through the grounds onto the breathtakingly beautiful beach where there were a few beach shacks with sunbeds and parasols and miles of golden sand. The sea was lovely and warm. Now to the but …… 3 weddings took place while we were there. They were each held over 2 or 3 days and at various locations around the hotel’s grounds and in the Radisson hotel’s grounds next door (which we understand is run by the same family as run Dona Sylvia). Although the 1st one was by far the largest, it didn’t negatively impact us. Indeed, we loved seeing their colourful clothes and customs. On the other 2 occasions a wedding celebration was held in the afternoon in the grounds of the Radisson, in an area that adjoins and opens onto the Dona Sylvia pool. The music and talk over the PA system was so loud and intrusive that many guests left the pool area. When I tried to complain at reception, I was told it would end at 5 pm or we could go to the small pool. Whilst this may seem trivial, sadly for us, this was the final straw. On several occasions we felt the hotel found non-wedding guests to be in the way of the wedding celebrations. Various areas were closed at times to enable a wedding celebration to take place there, such as the tennis court. Indeed, on the day we left, at the start of the day the sunbeds around one half of the pool had been moved away to enable tables and chairs to be set up for a function later that day. No consideration seemed to have been given to the non-wedding guests. Sadly, we’re unlikely to return because of this. We feel those considering booking need to be aware of the possible impact of weddings and Management need to give more consideration as to how wedding events impact other guests.

Dear Guest Greetings from Novotel Goa Dona Sylvia Resort At the outset, thank you for appreciating the Resort ,staff, the accommodation and food. As rightly said the business mix in Goa today has changed. All hotels have a healthy mix of Weddings, conferences and hence you would definitely find the client mix very different to past years I have noted your feedback about the noise and taken up internally with the team. However, it is very unfortunate that you had to face these difficulties during your stay at Novotel Goa Dona Sylvia Resort. Although, such things are very rare but we deeply regret the inconvenience caused. We once again extend apologies for not matching your stay expectations, and would hope to get an opportunity to better serve you you in your future stays with us. Please reach out to my team and me for any future assistance. Warm Regards, Dennis

Most weddings are booked for during January to March. They did not interfere with our holiday and the TUI rep even made sure that a certain area of the dinig room was allocated seperately. This was really not necessary but was helpful. There were also a couple of conferences taking place during our stay includin Tata Motors. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the staff were really helpful and obliging
There are more places to choose from in the Cavelossim area.
