We had our 3rd stay in Diani Reef Beach Resort & Spa in January 2020 and apart from the beautiful location, the staff made this a very special experience for us.

From our point of view, the staff in all the departments were exceptional, however, some of them went above and beyond to make our stay the more memorable.

Starting from the restaurant and kitchen, we would like to make special mention to Shume, Ali, Michael, Robert Karanja, Cecilia, Joel, Ngomeni, Mary and Joy who were not only professional but very warm and welcoming. We shared memories with them that we will never forget.

The kitchen staff made the food to a great standard with a variety of options which did not turn out boring as it normally does if you stay in a hotel for a length of time.

We spent much time at Fins bar thanks to Mary, Collins, David and the animation team especially Hamisi, Peter, Rodgers, Liz and Daniel whose personalities lit up the place. From the Beach department, Michael really looked after everyone ensuring we were not wanting for anything. Top man.

The concierge department all carried out a great job, however, we would like to make mention to Mohamed who was there for us to sort out any issues and also helped us on his own accord during our wedding (on our second visit to the hotel last year). True gentleman. It was also great to interact with Ronald and Edwin who were always happy to help. Great team.

The guest relations, reception and back office, Stanley, Nadine, Tabitha, Janet and Esther were always helpful and always welcoming with warm smiles.

Lydia from the environmental department who was always open to new ideas and her innovative approach to trying to keep the beach clean as it should be and Whitney from the social media department who was a breath of fresh air and always in a positive mood.

Last but not least the housekeeping department where Chrispus Akali, Walter and their team were great ambassadors to the company.

To all the people we have mentioned, thank you all for making this stay extraordinary.

Mary and Steve

My family (4 adults) and an infant (7 months) stayed 4 nights at this resort. They had just reopened after shutting down due to covid.

Our rooms were nice and comfortable with breathtaking views of Diani beach. The rooms were clean with all the amenities we needed. We had really restful sleep.

However, it's a really large resort, and sometimes finding your room through the maze of corridors and stairwells can be a bit of a task. Some spaces felt a little claustrophobic

The food was very good with a reasonable degree of variety. Staff members observed covid-19 protocols and it felt generally safe, even with a baby.

Drinks at the bar were well priced, I ordered a pina colada when I arrived, It wasn't very good. Nicholus (sic) at the pool bar made me an old fashion and it was very good. I spent the rest of the time switching between old fashions and beer.

We really liked the beachfront spaces to recline while looking out at what must be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Our highlight however was how well Chef Bennet took care of our baby's meals. We provided a list of items the baby is allergic to and what she likes to eat. The staff at the restaurant were amazing, preparing baby food on time, soups, fruit purees, and marshes were all so well done. Our little girl must have grown an inch during the stay.

What we found most annoying was having to buy drinking water. A 700 ml (23 oz) bottle of water cost 300 shillings (about 3USD) and each individual could drink upto 5 bottles. Frankly, it was cheaper to drink beer at this resort than drink water.

In the extreme Diani heat, they really need to consider water coolers with free water or drastically reduce the cost of drinking water.

Other than that, great resort! It gets an 8/10 from me and my family and we consider going back just because of how great they were with our little one.

I would like to appreciate the staff on the ground who have been very helpful and willing to assist... All the way from Check in the concierge assisting, the introduction of the guest relation incase you have any needs she is available, the front desk smiles, the housekeeping who assisted on how I would like my room cleaned, the waiters always checking if all is well. I can only name a few personnel that made my stay wonderful, Miss Nadine, Mary, Charles, Poebe.... the list goes on and on. Thank you very much.
I only urge renovation to be taken seriously otherwise the people are lovely.

We are staying in this hotel for fourteen days. On arrival we were given a small room when we complained we were given a bigger room, which was very good of them. This is definitely not what I call a five star hotel,it has very beautiful grounds and gardens, and the staff are very good.but it stops there the rooms need to be refurbished. We are not able to drink the tap water and are only given two small bottles of water daily,if we want any more it's four pounds a bottle. We paid five star money for a three star hotel. On the plus side we are enjoying the country and the beautiful sunshine.

Dear Karen U, Warm greetings from Diani Reef Beach Resort and Spa. We regret to hear about your experience at our resort. Our main goal is to ensure each guest has a pleasant and memorable stay at #Destination Diani. In regards to the above, our water is a bit salty due to our proximity to the ocean and we are trying our best to ensure the water in the rooms can be consumable. In addition we give 2 bottles of water for each room which is our standard procedures. Thank you for choosing us as your preferred holiday destination, we are looking forward to hosting you again. The hotel is conscious of the need to protect the environment, the sea in particular, by limiting the use of plastic. Plastic water bottles are strictly prohibited at the premises. A discount on every empty glass bottle returned would be ideal to cushion clients against the relatively high price of water.

Everything was horrible. The rooms were old and dirty, the shower didn’t work well. The staff service was horrible and they kept telling us they are understaffed but nothing changed. I was kept waiting at the reception for over an hour only for the receptionist to tell me he forgot he had to attend to me. We didn’t get beach/swimming towels. They never put any towels in our room we had to keep requesting the reception for towels everytime we had to get ready. What a bad bad bad decision to stay at diani reef.

The gala dinner was over priced and was the worst meal I’ve ever had to eat. The buffet would finish and they would take over 40 minutes to re fill. How do you expect us to wait that long between refills?

Honestly even if the hotel was free I would never go back and I would never recommend anyone to go. They claim to be a 4 star hotel I would say their service is like a 0.5 star.

It’s unfortunate that we had booked through a 3rd party where we couldn’t even cancel and get a refund because we regretted every single minute of our stay.

To make everything worse we left the hotel and tested positive and I’m pretty sure that’s to do with the hygiene levels of the buffet gala dinner. Staff were coughing and sneezing with no masks serving food. A recipe for disaster.

I've visited Diani Reef Beach resort over 8 times, i haven't been in about 4 years and we decided to stay here as we have always had fond memories of the hotel. However, its clear that the hotel went completely down hill in these last couple of years. First of all, the entire hotel needs A LOT of renovation, the wooden bridges and walkways are completely falling apart. The tiles around the hotel are all chipped and wonky.
The service as the hotel is poor to say the least, you have to wait 30 minutes to even get a menu. They only have 1 working restaurant, the food always arrived late and cold. Half of the hotel is shut down (around the adult pool area) and it looks extremely creepy. Bathroom towels are not always available.

My daughter visited the spa and asked for the 60 minute reflexology massage, the masseuse ended the massage 45 minutes in. The massage itself was also very unsatisfactory.

When asking for a taxi, never take the hotel taxis as they extremely over price.

We also went to their New Years Eve gala dinner, it was overpriced and definitely not worth the money.

However, the staff at the resort are very nice and the beach itself is beyond beautiful.

Unfortunately, me and my family have had wonderful memories at Diani Reef and it saddens us to see how poor the hotel has been managed. Avoid this hotel! There are many better options in mombasa.

An adult needs about 5 litres of water a day in hot weather to stay healthy. There is no plumbed drinking water in this hotel - only seawater comes out of the taps. You're supplied with a 330ml bottle of water a day, if you need more then you're forced to pay an exhorbitent price for it. Furthermore, if you you go out and buy supplies from a local supermarket then your purchases are inspected at the hotel entrance and items (like water) are confiscated! Today an elderly woman was forced to drink 2 litres of water that she had bought outside rather than let her take it to her room for personal consumption. This issue alone is enough to dissuade you from staying here.
We also paid 5* money and were given a 3* room which we had to fight and threaten to leave if they didn't upgrade it. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful but they are managed by an idiot.

Dear Raym0nd1908 Warm greetings from Diani Reef Beach Resort and Spa. We are sad to hear about your stay with us. We have investigated the matter and found that you had booked a standard garden facing room and upon your complaint, you were given a free upgrade to a deluxe room. In regards to the issue with water, our Front Office Executive explained that we provide two bottles per day. In case of need for more one can purchase at the bars. Unfortunately, due to our geographical location, we can only access salty water from the tap hence the daily replenishes. We hope your next stay with us will be pleasant Kind Regards Diani Reef Management

I booked this hotel based on previous trip advisor reviews, the reviews all seemed praising but unfortunately this hotel isnt as described. Its semi run down if which half is closed, the rooms smell damp. I had booked a twin room but got given a queen room as no twins left?? Then when i asked for twins they said they would bring a sofa bed into already cramped room. The beach is within walking distance but the loungers are scarce you need to go to the beach very early to get. The brekkie was lovely pitty about the flies. We visited the spa also disappointed with it , totally overpriced for the inexperience. The staff were friendly but this hotel for what i paid just didnt meet my expectations which is a real shame. I will not be back.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at Diani Reef for 2 weeks and had a really fantastic stay. The location is perfect and for me the hotel has the best part of the beach. The room was comfortable and very clean, we had a sea view and regular visits from the cheeky monkeys. We did bed and breakfast and there was always a good choice of well prepared food each morning. The staff and the service at this hotel is incredible and it made the trip for us. From the security guards to the waiters, they were all fantastic. Special mention to Silas, Collins, Donnah and Maurice. They couldn’t do enough for us and were just so lovely, they made our holiday that extra bit special and a big thank you to them all. The hotel is a little tired in places but it makes up for it in character. My only criticism would be the price of the meals in the restaurants, very overpriced, if the hotel could get this right I think it would make a huge difference. Regardless I would 100% recommended Diani Reef, we will never forget our stay here with these beautiful people. Nathalie and David.
