The best bit about this hotel was the climate was lovely with a constant sea breeze taking the edge off the temperatures. The beach was stunning but as with all of Kenya, you can't really lounge on it. This is partly because it almost disappears at high tide but mainly due to the hawkers. If you turn left from the hotel, you can reach the north end of this part of the beach in around 30 minutes (so a 1 hour round trip), if you turn right you get to the end in around 45 minutes). This made for a lovely late afternoon stroll. The pool was nice but had the hotel been full (it was about one third full due to the covid-19 pandemic) I think it, along with the area for sun loungers, would have been too small. Food was buffet style and the quality was variable - some of it was very good but some of it wasn't. For example, we had beef two nights in a row. The first night it was tender, the second it was tough. The more popular choices would also be gone after about 20 minutes of service. The room was fine and the AC was powerful enough and quiet enough to ensure a good sleep.…
Travelled in November, great weather during our stay so enjoyed the pool (well taken care of and large). The premise has a lovely beach front, absolutely fantastic, you could spend the whole day there. The rooms away from the pool preferred for silence. Rooms are well kept and updated (though only a third of the hotel was open) All inclusive alcoholic drinks were typical Kenya coast, don't expect any fanciness, it's Kibao and Safari mostly. Great service, covid measures observed all around. During our stay the food was the only thing I didn't like, I suspect there wasn't a head chef, it was good but the variety was poor. Night entertainment was nice, the hotel catered for a birthday cake rather well. Great proximity to airport, supermarkets and fancy eateries (Kokkos, Leonardo's etc) I would recommend a stay, hopefully the food is on point in future.…
I visited here from the UK with my girlfriend. Having lived in Nairobi for 14 years and visiting Mombasa frequently, I had high hopes for a good hotel. The hotel was beautiful and beach was lovely, but the food was horrible unfortunately. The options were extremely limited and we had a bad tummy throughout and although we paid for all inclusive, we ended up eating out. Many customers were also complaining, and if this issue was fixed it would be perfect.
We originally reserved a smaller family room which we requested to move out of because the room didn't have AC. The staff were pleasant and with a fee upgraded us to a better room, closer to the beach. My highlights of this hotel are: -Activities through the day for the kids. -There was always food available and it was delicious, a lot of fresh fruit. -Beach area was always kept clean -Always felt safe. -Staff were really friendly The only bad thing was the shower, if you took a shower expect the whole bathroom floor to get soaked.
My wife and I have just returned from a 12 night stay at DSR following a 5 day safari and it was a perfect place to chill out after an excellent but tiring tour with Transtrek safaris who I would highly recommend. My son and sister also joined us for the safari and first week at the Hotel to celebrate my 60th birthday and I was overwhelmed with the cake and celebratory presentation dance the waiting staff put on for me at dinner. When talking about the staff here we couldn't have asked for a more friendly helpful team they are outstanding, the Resort should be proud of them and I hope this message of appreciation gets back to them. Everyone was a joy but I will just give a special mention to the one's we talked to most, firstly Valentine of reservations who I corrasponded with online for several months before our visit and she was always quick and accommodating with her replies. Nasib and Daniel of animation always found time to talk and joke with us even though we didn't take part in all the activities while Nzai Ali Swaleh Ruwa and Lydia gave fantastic waiting service from the bar and dining room. Restaurant supervisor Sheila also went out of her way to try and make sure there was more ice on hand for evening drinks after we complained of a lack of it and Koi who kept the pool area clean and tidy always gave us a morning "Jambo" when we settled down on our sunbeds around the amazing warm pool. The guys on the front desk were also very helpful. The only fault I could give of this resort apart from sometimes being short of ice in the evenings is the room towels could be a bit softer but this is a minor issue and there are far more positives including beautifully kept gardens an excellent beachfront location and some good evening entertainment. Thank you to the DSR team for a wonderful stay.…
