We were privileged to stay at Bahari Dhow Villas between August 1 and Augus 6, 2023.

We were attracted to the serenity of the facility, and the accessibility of the pools next to the villas (villa has three great and well-kept pools), which our children really loved, as well as its location on the beach (allowed us rest and dining at the beach). The highlight of our stay was the tasty food from the restaurant and great customer service from the reception team (Lillian + Jerome) to the workers (Steven), the waiters (Chai + Caxton), and the pool attendant (Daniel). These individuals made our stay enjoyable, and we would like to thank them! The villas are also spacious, with the kitchen having a good oven and fridge (even though the kitchen would do with addition crockery and cutlery).

The flip side of our visit was the acceptance into the property of rowdy, party-going travelers that occupied the villa next two ours, two days to our departure. The last two days were characterized by rowdy behavior that included blaring music, from early morning, aimless consumption of alcohol including around the pool to some unwelcome making out in the pool! With a mixed crowd of families with infants and small children, to mature citizens as patrons, we would have hoped that the instructions were clear on the type of activity and behavior permissible in the premises. This was not the case and forced us to complain to the reception on two occasions about the music and general disruption. On the villar itself, we feel that a thorough cleaning is due, especially in the kitchen area (walls and electronics) and the lounge chairs (external and internal ones). Also, our mattress in the master bedroom may do with a change as we kind of sunk into the middle, ruining a good night of rest.

Our family spent five nights here in a return visit because the beach front location is perfect. The staff are polite. However, unlike our previous visit, there were very few organized activities like Zumba, etc.

Bahari Dhow has a lot of potential, but the management needs to spruce up the villas, improve the bathrooms, ensure kitchen is well stocked, linens upgraded, broken furniture replaced, etc. The management also needs to prioritize their residents over holidays and weekends. We were unable to use the pool because the hotel allows non-residents to pay and use the pool and it gets too crowded. If the hotel wishes to have public access swimming facilities, they should consider building a separate swimming pool in the grounds by the entrance to ensure that residents can enjoy the facilities throughout their stay.

Room Tip: The pools and restaurant get very busy on public holidays because they are open to the public.

We stayed at the Bahari Dhow Villas around Christmas. While we enjoyed our stay, appreciated the variety of organized activities, and found the staff courteous, there are a few issues the management needs to address.

First, allowing non-resident guests to use the swimming pool facilities during public holidays, means that the hotel guests are not able to enjoy the facilities. We even had strangers just enter one of our villas to use the toilet!

Second, it is critical that the staff do a check to ensure that each villa has a full set of utensils.

Finally, the level of cleanliness could be improved significantly.

Room service was almost non existent. Few days we had to request clean towels and new water bottles.

Place was quite nice, however:

The hotels location isn't the best, we ended up driving 10 minutes down the coast towards neptune, where the beach was much better.

Bahari Dhow is still an excellent example of a reasonably priced south coast Kenyan restaurant and bar. There were at least eight wind surfers, ample seating, exceptional (and inexpensive) meal. GREAT service (even called me a tuk tuk). I only visited (not a stay), but dont miss it. The beauty (other than the waitresses) of it is, watching the peaceful ocean tide change and NO "beachboys" selling junk. Dont mis this affordable diamond.

This apartments are really well located not far away from shopping (careful ) and local
Markets . From one apartment we have 1 minute to the beach where view is just breathtaking. Great staff , everyone are superb and very helpful. Housekeeping are great too. Wifi ok you can check your emails and messages not very strong to talk but that’s ok. In general nice place😀

We came from Watamu after a beautiful time at the North Coast and decided to spend our last two nights in Diani before flying out. We initially had not decided where to stay and we finally took a tuktuk to this resort. First impression was Staff don’t wear uniforms! I was shocked. The management of this place can do better.

Room was good size I guess we got an upgrade but here is the thing…water was on the floor in the toilet and it kept on leaking throughout the two nights we stayed there. We never called maintenance because we had seen the comments on TA. The shower head holder was broken too and we still used it like that because we did not want to bother you. But don’t this place have a preventative maintenance practice? Quality management? It’s really a good place but sadly it doesn’t feel like it. Beach is marvelous, 60% of these villas or more don’t have sea view. The place is ancient and needs an uplift. If I were the owner I would invest the money back to this place!!! Staff at the restaurant were not attentive and rather uninterested to serve guests. Saturday and Sunday band at the restaurant was great!! Tables dirty, table cloth full of stains, it doesn’t need rocket science.

Well thanks to the gentleman who welcomed us at the reception sadly I don’t remember his name. He was polite, kind and knew what he was doing. Thank you for organizing transfer to the airport!

I would love to return here if they refurbish the place. But as of now. Nope!!!

The setting of these villas is very good. All of them very close to the beach and facing the three swimming pools which are big but could be cleaner. The rooms are a bit old and could be improved. Kitchen are not equipped and difficult to cook. The beach does not have enough beach umbrella and in this point the beach is not very big and nice as elsewhere in Diani. The food at the beach restaurant is good (seafood and local dishes) but the breakfast is not top. Would recommend it for groups that are on budget with not very high expectations.

While the hotel management was very unprofessional the restaurant manager, Dora, was the reason we decided to stay in this hotel. She made us feel welcome and at home at all time.Dora interacted with guests and made all of us feel like somebody in the hotel cared about our wellbeing. On the other hand, hotel management did not care about us at all and only cared about the money. Truly a disappointment given that the location is perfect. Dora truly made our experience worth it though.

Day 1: I order 2 beers. She brings 1 beer. I tell her I just ordered 2 beers. She then brings back 2 more beers. Sigh... My AC was not working the first night
Day 2 of my 7 day trip and I regret not reading the reviews on Google first. The rooms are set up in dorm type of situation. The remote control is missing the cover. The batteries don’t work. The mattress is thin like I would imagine prison. The service at the restaurant is atrocious. The wifi is horrible. The TV choices are horrible. I had to call the front desk from my table to get any service at the restaurant. I'll probably book somewhere else just to not completely ruin my trip.
The maintenance person has been to my room four times and my remote still doesn’t work properly.
Day 3 at the beach and I am bonding with the guests at how bad the restaurant service is. Good thing I booked another place soon.
Day 4: Cleaning people knock on my door 3 times until I finally opened when trying to relax. They don’t have Do Not Disturb signs like every other hotel. There 6 people at the bar nobody has even given me a menu. A White lady sits down after me and gets a menu within a couple minutes, 2 tables down. I had to call the front desk again, twice. It took 10 min to get a menu. Mind you I made contact with a waiter and pointed to my seat before sitting down upon arrival.
I have been in Kenya for 3 weeks from Nairobi to Nyali and today instead of a chicken breast a Chicken burger is minced chicken. Then I do a reorder of fish and he ask me if I want it well done?? It’s not steak.

So glad I booked another place. Don’t come here.

I don't know exactly what you mean by a daily resort fee as I have never encountered this any where on the coast. How ever I doubt if they do as even when we went in as non residents it was free we just paid the normal prices at the beach bar but could not use the pool that was for residents only But the sea there is reasonably safe unlike some other areas of DIANI
