Obviously I agree with the other reviewers that Playa el Coco is a staggeringly beautiful beach, a fact which the owners of this establishment have clearly been dining out on for some considerable time, whilst completely ignoring the other elements which constitute quality accommodation worthy of the price they charge. For $170 a night it was no better in standard than a budget hostel. I doubt the place - especially the god-awful bathroom & separate toilet - has been updated in the last 25 years and was basic, dated and tatty. You had to duck under some piping and low concrete ceilings under the room to reach the stairs up to the room. No proper paving, unkempt grounds, chipped tiles on stairs. It was just a mess. There was nothing pleasant or charming about the place whatsoever except for the view of the sea & beach location. Plonk the room in a hostel in Managua, say, and it’s $15 a night. Having arrived I read on TA that some people staying in our apartment a while ago had things stolen during the night whilst they slept. This of course concerned me as the locks on the door were utterly rubbish & I went out at 9pm for a walk round the site with a torch, only for it to become apparent the place was seemingly deserted and no security whatsoever was evident. It was eerie and needless to say I did not have a good nights sleep. I jumped at every sound, of which there were many as the windows rattled badly in the wind. I’m incredulous at the cost for the very poor standard. They insisted we pay cash upfront before we even saw the room (funny that). There is no way on earth I’d have spent that money on that low standard of accommodation. We were given a ticket for breakfast which clearly stated breakfast was served from 7 a.m yet on arrival at the restaurant at 7.30 a.m we were ignored. I asked if we could order breakfast and I was told; ‘maybe in half an hour’. I asked in that case whether some coffee was available and I was informed the coffee machine was ‘cold’. We left after one night & money was refunded as a result. The place obviously has potential because of the location but without some serious investment and improvement in quality & approach it’s a business going down the pan as far as I can ascertain & I cannot recommend it because it represents perhaps the worst value for money in terms of accommodation standards I have ever seen.

We stayed here for four days and loved it. We had a three bedroom house with two full bathrooms. We had a beautiful patio that looked over the trees. We had a kitchen and were able to make many of our meals at the house. The beach was lovely. They were tours to sea turtles hatching. You must go on a dirt road for quite a while South of San Juan Dr Sur to get here. The restaurant food is good but quite expensive.

The apartment was too small and the bathroom was miserable. Showers were non existent. The location and privacy of the beach however was astounding. Sand and water were to die for. The place is also very close to La Flor where you can take a trip to see turtles laying eggs by night and the babies scurrying to the ocean by sunrise trying to escape the vultures. The conservation effort at La Flor is very impressive. Overall the beach and sands and the Olive Ridley turtles made up for the lack of facilities at Parque Maritomo.

Quiet location far away from the cities, the lights and the noise. Completely in the nature just few steps from the pacific ocean. Bungalow was clean and comfy. As this is in the nature you can find in your bungalow or close by some lizard or maybe you are lucky and a beautiful blue bird stare at you while you relax reading a book in the outside patio! I would have stayed there 1 month! They rent (for free) also bikes or canoes.

Even though it's not a short quick drive from San Juan del Sur, it is most definitely worth it! This beach boasts beautiful white sand, and Costa Rican landscape for scenery. The added bonus is that because it is just that little bit further out of town the beach is hardly ever crowded!

Playa El Coco is a long, beautiful, pristine beach. The waves are great for boogie boarding and beginner surfers. We stayed in Casa Gerardo, which is 20m from the sea. The house had a functional kitchen which was great. The two bedrooms both had hyper-active, very noisy air conditioning... The units need to be replaced, they probably consume loads of electricity. The house was very basic for the price (US 160 per night plus tax), not great value, I guess you pay for the location. There is a restaurant on the beach which has good food, although it is over-priced compared to elsewhere in Nicaragua. Restaurant service is very slow, but then most people aren't in a rush. We appreciated having the self-catering option and there's a small but well-stocked shop on site selling fruit, vegetables, eggs, milk, frozen chicken, pasta, rice, oats/oatmeal, pancake mix etc Overall a lovely beach and acceptable accommodation that provides the opportunity to enjoy the beach

Very beautiful location and calm beach. Hotel Staff was very helpful.Restaurant staff not so helpful or friendly. I liked that our room had separate toilet with sick and from shower. My only two concerns was a shower head that splashed water everywhere and the ant problem. But room was very nice and clean.

The rooms are bungalows with kitchenette: fridge, stove, microwave. Must carry your own food from town. The biggest concern, someone(s) broke into our room while we were asleep. They stole our valuables. According to the police, a condo down the beach had the same problem 3 months earlier. This place more security at night.

Dear Frank: Thanks for your review about Parque Maritimo el Coco and the details of Apartment Los Cangrejos. I regret that you were stolen at night. The Police is already making the investigations. We have also increase the security personal at the resort. It was our first time since we start operations. Give my regards to your father. Thanks, Rodolfo

Terrible service, ridiculous pirices. Just bring your own cooler and barbeque if you plan on coming for the day. Seriously non - existant service. I really dont see the point of hiring employees if you're not going to train them.

We didn't stay here but the bar/restaurant as part of the hotel complex is a great place to spend the day. Gorgeous views across the bay, good food especially the fish (a little pricey tho) and a lovely swimming pool. The road from San Juan is pretty good so you can get there in about 20 minutes driving from the town. Certainly recommend it for the day.
