We stayed at a gorgeous little Air B&B 10 minutes walk from here and from the map it was a straight road it was only after getting there did we realise we were taking our lives in our hands walking to it as you need to walk a country road the has several turns and crazy drivers. When we got there the staff and food were amazing and when we could not get a cab as we thought it would be safer ta wonderful bar maid offered to run us back We couldnt go back for the rest of the week as it was too dangerous but loved it
10/10 for our sirloin steak. Cooked to absolute perfection. Great portion size, great friendly service. Couldn't fault anything with our meal, even the salad dressing. Highly recommended and will be coming again. Thank you for a truly tasty meal.
Third visit in a few years. Service was slow - over an hour between courses. Steak tough as old boots. Chicken burger “with bbq sauce” barely had a smear on the bun. Bit worried when server asked if we wanted dessert and we had to say we hadn’t even had our main course. Asked for ketchup and given a thimble size, then told to get sachets, which was the generic catering vinegary ketchup - photo shows difference between them. Think they have severely over extended their capabilities by introducing a motor home park on their land, therefore increasing covers. Clearly can’t cope.
Really can’t fault . Place has got better and better through what looks like a lot of effort Every dish was great. Lovely staff, decent price. Something for most tastes on menu and apparently I have to write 200 words which quite frankly is pathetic
This is the place to visit for a very excellent dining experience, with a menu that gives you exactly what you have ordered, and unlike my visit to the Griffin at Godshill the portions my family and I had, of different dishes were not only well cooked, but were also filling and nothing was left on the plates and dishes but faint traces of each person's choice. Although the place was quite busy the staff were very attentive and made all of us feel that they were there to ensure that our dining in their establishment was as pleasant and relaxed. As my family had come to the IOW for a short holiday, from where they live in Dagenham, after our not seeing each other since 2019, and with my Granddaughter having just found she'd passed all her exams with very high marks, my niece and I had recommended this establishment to have a family meal and to celebrate her exam results. Unlike the meal experienced at the Griffin in Godshill the whole tail Scampi were whole tails and not broken small fragments. Other item such as Sirloin Steak, Calimari, and a large Burger made everyone surprised at the amount of food, which Gordon Ramsay would have found unable to fault. Service was quick and efficient, even when more drinks were required all it took was a look at one of the waiting team to have the come to ask what was required, and brought within a couple of minutes. It was a struggle to finish of the desserts, which rounded off a very pleasant family meal. Normally my family go abroad on holiday, but now plan to come back to the IOW again next year, to discover all of the other attractions they didn't get chance to look at, plus the Chequers will be visited again. …
The food was absolutely amazing. I had a cheese soufflé starter with parsnip purée and was delicious. The second course was a cannon of lamb with mashed potato and lamb sauce with braised leeks. Visit with family highly recommended
We visited The chequers when staying near by. We ended up eating here 2 nights out of our 4 night stay. Wonderful food and service, plus a kids play area that would rival a paid for kids play area. Easy to use app to order if eating outside and food arrived within 15 minutes of ordering. Best family place we have eaten at after 3 stays in the IOW
We arrived a few minutes after the advertised opening time of 10:00 and the place was still locked up. We had to walk around the outside to gain the attention of someone to unlock the doors. Once we got inside, we were directed to a table at the rear of the restaurant in a pleasant area with a vaulted ceiling. My buddy and I both went for a standard English Breakfast. We both had a Cappuccino. I asked for some sweeteners but never saw that waiter again, nor did I see any sweeteners. The breakfast was OK, but nothing special. Good quality sausages saved the day. We thought it unusual not to be served any toast but that turned up some time later. We ordered additional cups of coffee. I didn't bother to ask for sweeteners this time. When it came to paying the bill, I had to stick my head round the kitchen door to get someone's attention, only to find the FOH staff chatting away on his phone. Having heard such good reports about The Chequers, we left rather disappointed.…
Probably the best lunch during our 2 week holiday. Superb pub ambience and great locally produced food. In addition it has a superb garden area with extensive play area for the kids - a must for visitors with young families
First meal after the lockdown . Still great. They have someone in the kitchen that really knows how to cook. Had a steak as seemed like the thing to have after 3.5 months ! Really high quality and the Stilton sauce was mint. Home made pork spring rolls Also pretty special . One of the best on the island . Great staff . Good to be back
