French Island is an intriguing place. Twice the size of Phillip Island with only a couple of hundred residents. Unfortunately there is very little to do. The roads are all unsealed and most are unsuitable for bike riding. The Lodge is pretty run down but the rooms are reasonable. In fairness, the owners are renovating and are new. The views...

Just came back from a weekend at Tortoise Head Lodge. It boasts extremely friendly staff, fantastic views, and excellent accommodation facilities. We went cycling around French Island, saw heaps of wildlife and picturesque scenery, plus a packed lunch provided by the staff. I'm definitely going back soon!

Our family (2 adults, 2 kids aged 6 and 4) spent a night camping at Phil's property last week. Phil was the most gracious and helpful host, picking us up at the dock, collecting firewood for our camp fire, providing insect repellant and providing dinner and breakfast as well (including catering for a vegetarian). We had a lovely camping spot...

We recently enjoyed 2 nights with Phil and Maria and their hospitilaity was impeccable! When we first arrived on the island, we were greeted at the dock by a smiley faced Phil, who took us back to the Inn. He explained to us what it was like to live on the island & all that there was for us to...

Staying at French Island and particularly at the Tortoise Head was definitely an experience! If you like fancy holidays, then this is not for you! We got to the island on Friday night, Rod was there to greet us when we got off the ferry, and helped us with our luggage. Our favourite part of the stay were the evenings...

We would like to thank Rod & Suzanne for an amazing weekend , We the oldies enjoyed every minute of the trip, but the young generation enjoyed every minute even before we departed to the island with the expectations of the murder mystery night, the secret of who they were in the play and how would they prepare themselves for...

“North facing camping spots are more sheltered from the wind, but equally good views for the south facing spots, plus closer to toilet block if important.”
