Nayana's Homestay in Shantineketan, near Kolkata, is an oasis of peace, tranquillity and solitude. The type of 'aloneness' which prompts you to look inwards at your soul, reassess yourself and rejuvenate your soul. The Homestay itself is barely a 15-minutes' drive from Bolpur Railway Station. The drive is obligatorily cacophonous through the market place but soon peace descends as you wind your way to your haven. The Homestay is a standalone two-storied bungalow with a gravel driveway, a garden and a backyard full of seasonal fruits and flowers. There are two rooms with a dining-drawing area separating the two. A well-equipped kitchen abuts the drawing-dining area, should you want to cook yourself. However, a help is there most of the time to warm your food or to help you out…
I was sceptical when at the last moment we changed our Gujarat end year plans to trip in Bengal with Shantiniketan being the starting point. But when we got to Nayana's homestay, all my apprehension was put to rest. She guided us on the then ensuing poush mela, options to commute and even how to avoid the mela crowds by choosing the right boarding and alighting railway stations.. how much attention to detail, she puts into everything in her house and her guests is super impressive . Making, her help is silent and efficient and we got some great breakfast made by her Book in advance as the place is very highly recommend by trip advisor. On her recommdation, we had breakfast at Shibu day outside the prantik station and that was one of our best light eats experience
Located in the tiny town of Prantik, Nayna's place is an art aficionado’s paradise. To say the place has a soul will not be wrong. It is quiet and peaceful and very warm. The resident dog keeps you company without getting in your way and Maku, the quiet housekeeper is always there should you need. What I find best about the space is how personal it is -- to me it did not seem like someone else's home at all. With paintings from Nayana's father, her family pictures, and family heirloom, it could be your or my home. It is a pity that I could be there only for a day, but I am glad I could make time. If you are in Shantiniketan, this is *the* place to stay. Nayana’s Homestay offers a complimentary English breakfast to all guests. The fully equipped kitchen is available to…
I am late in writing this review and might I suggest, that it is only because I am still hungover from my visit to Shantiniketan and my stay at Nayana's Chota Kothi. Spent the most beautiful 2nights and days at Shantiniketan(wishing that it was longer for sure) at a home which is so full of character, memories, thoughtfulness and yes a whole lot of swag. Maku being the flag bearer of the last bit. Rooms are artfully done, yet so warm & cozy. Breakfasts so comforting, had on the front porch, basking in the sun. Endless rounds of Tea so relaxing, had in various nooks and corners. Walks through the shades of the mango tree, mornings spent on the rooftop and evenings savoured along with Merlot & local delicacies; a stay at Chota Kothi is the most fulfilling a holiday can get. I for…
Spent two nights at this well maintained, creatively decorated, comfortable homestay with all the necessary amenities and more. Comfortable beds, spacious and clean bathrooms, two inviting verandas to spend your time having tea and adda with other guests and the hostess, who caters to your specific needs. Freshly made breakfast, with interesting culinary delights at dinners. Lots of advice given for spending quality time in and around Shantiniketan. And of course the peaceful, restful location and atmosphere of Chita Koti are an added delight.
