This property has been renovated quite a few number of times to cater best to its clients. My first stay was around 2013 and it has been the only property where I stay when I visit Shantiniketan or its adjacent areas in Bolpur. The reason being the hospitality which was extended by each and every member of the property and their promptness in getting things done with a broad smile. The food in their in-house restaurant is good and they have added new cuisines which makes it really difficult to choose from- being so many delicacies and the quality/ quantity doesn’t pinch the pocket. They have newly added a swimming pool in the property and it’s a great way to soothe the tired feet after a long day walk/ cycling around. The location is very accessible as it’s in the heart of the town and getting public transport or visiting the local market is just a stone throw away. The rooms are all centrally airconditioned and are maintained properly.
Overall my rating is based on the management and the property location which has made The Royal Bengal hotel stay for me and my family always memorable when visiting Shantiniketan every year.

Nice place. Stayed at room 105 and the view is nice from the balcony.

Good place to stay for short trips, be it business or a getaway.

Pros:
1. Great service.
2. Good staff.
3. Room service available at affordable prices, and the food is great in terms of quality and quantity.
4. Clean and sanitized well.
5. Extension beyond checkout time is affordable, and they also have luggage storage facility beyond checkout times.

Cons:
1. Loud people in the corridors shout a lot, even at 3AM, even when requested to keep it quiet.
2. Bathrooms even though sanitised nicely, have some weird marks in the showers and toilets (not dirt, probably because they're just old)
3. WiFi is good and fast, but shuts down suddenly at times for 1-2 mins. If you need to work/meetings, be bring your own backup for those seconds.

Hotel Royal Bengal is like a home in the format of a hotel. No wonder we got a very welcoming approach this time also. The owners of this place usually are available and very approachable. What we like about this place is the quality of stay and the food served here. Whenever we visit Hotel Royal Bengal some or the other surprise factor waits for us. Be it a newly built performance stage or a newly designed cafeteria or a newly designed reception. We appreciate the way the owners try to upgrade the facilities of this place every now and then. And in addition the courtesy of every person working this place is also appreciable. Keep up the good work.

We had booked the hotel just for an overnight stay(4th Jan-5th Jan) and let me tell you, the experience was pretty bad.The hotel compound wall shares a common wall with an adjacent LPG/HP gas cylinder facility and these people started loading cylinders from 5:30 am and the loud noise never let us sleep after that.Going on a hotel, and being awakened at 5;30 forcefully was a real deal breaker.Plus rooms are not at all spacious, in fact they are pretty small. In fact the amenities provided to us with respect to the price we paid(around Rs.3200 per night) was not at all up to the mark. When we entered the room we were honestly shocked as we had expected our room to be at least somewhat similar to the room they showed on the site. The washroom door lock was also faulty. However, coming to the good points , the food was good, staff was ever courteous and the location were good(Vishwa bharati University was probably only 1-2km away). But apart from that, I think one can get a lot of better hotels at the same or even lower price with better amenities.

We stayed there for 1 night on 13th March,2021 at room number 107. One thing I did not like is the Sanitization and the cleanliness. At reception , I was told that room will be sanitized in front of me. But first of all I had to wait for long time to get the room. After getting room key, we found the room was not cleaned at all and we ask to clean and sanitize the room . After they sanitized, we could see the dust with naked eyes. I again had to clean the room with tissue paper. Next morning, there was no water at the washroom. This problem was not with only our room. Everybody was complaining that there was no water. So we had cancel our next morning plan and finished breakfast at the hotel and there was no water for freshen up.
Though there were issues, but staffs are good and polite. Also I found the breakfast was good

Although generally staff behaviour is good, the hotel is waste of money and time because of substandard rooms and maintenance. In a Superior Triple Bed, there is no working desk There is no geyser in a Superior Double Bed as well, the hot water comes from the adjacent room which makes no sense. There is no working desk in the Superioir Double Bed as well. The commodes are placed so high in the bathroom that you feel you are almost perched on a tree while pooping! Restaurant food is very limited, oily, and spicy. The behaviour of staff is mostly good except the behaviour of the manager, Suraj Bagdas. The most important point is that they do not have their own parking space. Hence, the parking is unsafe. Our new i20 suffered a dent on the top and the front glass. Although they did reimburse a token amount, Suraj and I had an ugly spat because he was saying that the cat could have been damaged anywhere. He specifically said that bad reviews do not matter since he can also reply to the review
Clearly shows you the attitude of the management. Not happy with the hotel, would not recommend at all.

We planned for a 2N / 3D tour to Shantiniketan. Considering the vicinity of this hotel and based on the ratings, we (my family) chose this place for our stay. We also made pre-booking online.

Following are few observations for all future tourists who might want to stay in this property:

Good::
1. The location is very convenient and nearby for all the prominent places (Visva Bharati, Sonajhuri / Khoai mela, Kopai river, Amar kutir, Sreejoni Shilpogram etc)
2. If you are looking for customized home style food in the hotel, then this can be your choice

Bad::
1. Staff behaviour is very very rude and they (front desk) are not at all helpful. They are always very reluctant
2. The rooms & toilets are NOT at all clean. There are stains everywhere
3. The towels, bedsheets are extremely dirty (even after cleaning) and there are various coloured stains all over (so be aware)
4. Although the rooms have water heaters, but those are centrally controlled by front desk. Hence, you need to explicitly ask them to turn it on when you need hot water
5. Although food can be customised, but quality & taste of food is not up to the mark. Most importantly, be extremely cautious when food is delivered, because you might find extra toppings like dead mosquitos as complimentary offer 😜
6. The restaurant also offers a natural feeling as you will be surrounded by mosquitos and flies
7. If you are staying on higher floors then be ready for daily exercise as the elevator facility is dwindling
8. Although they will say that there is a parking, but it is actually on the open road
9. The swimming pool water is sinking and of green colour
10. Last but not the least, the mini refrigerators in the rooms are like gas chambers. Be careful before opening. That stinking smell might kill you

Thanks for the hospitality provided. But I wanted to highlight some points which I have observed during my stay.

1) Bathroom : No toiletries have been provided. Even told to the reception, still no toiletries have been provided by them. Being a luxurious hotel in Bolpur, these are the basic necessities needs to be provided.
2) Complementary Breakfast : In the cafeteria section, when we have asked for Egg pouch, the waiter in the cafeteria denied to provide the same. But we have observed that, Egg pouch was given to some other guests who were present in the cafeteria. Later, after a brief conversation with the other waiter, they have agreed to provide the food item.
My concern is, if you are delivering some food items in the cafeteria, then it should be equally provided to the guests present in the cafeteria.
3) Quality of the food : The food items present in the cafeteria are overpriced and the food provided by them are not upto the mark. They have to equally check their fooding section as that is also a prime part of the hotel hospitality.
Apart from that, we enjoyed a lot staying in the hotel.

Dear Sir, we apologize for the unfortunate incidences that you faced during your stay at our property. It feels very disheartening to see any of our guests unhappy with our services. Hospitality is a team work and we work as a team to satisfy our guests. There are various departments that work together to run the property. Though we try our best to provide our guests with the best of services ,but sometimes we do fail to achieve 100%. 1) We provide toiletries for all category of rooms, but can't understand the reason why this happed to you. We have talked to our housekeeping department to look into this matter. 2) We provide a fixed menu of breakfast for the rooms that booked under CP plans. But the rooms which are booked under the EP plan are not provided with complimentary breakfast. Those guests orders their breakfast from the a-la-carte menu which is chargeable. The guest who was provided with the egg pouch was ordering the food at an extra charge as their room was not booked under the complimentary breakfast scheme. There was a misunderstanding regarding this matter. 3) We always try to keep the food prices at a reasonable rate but unfortunately you found the price of food over priced. We will definitely look into your suggestion about the standard of food and try our best to make it better. We assure you a much better experience on your next visit. Looking forward to serve you soon. Warm regards Team Royal Bengal
