A day well spent in hotel royal bengal shantiniketan, we are very happy with the service and ambiance of the hotel.. The cuisine served where awesome and mouth watering, thanks will definately come soon.
I find it interesting, but also deeply saddening, to note that this hotel is ranked at the top of TripAdvisor for Bolpur/Shantiniketan. Hotels like these existed all over India till the 70s and 80s during our wide-eyed trips as kids. I didn't imagine they could still be in West Bengal today, barely 150 km from the state capital, at a location that is supposed to be a cultural hotspot. Poush mela in late December is an important part of the social fabric of Shantiniketan and today (because of whatever reasons) this hotel is right inside that fair. They do take full advantage of it. We booked 3 rooms: 2 Economy and 1 so-called Superior room. For the superior room alone we paid more than 8K for 2 nights, which is not too different from what branded upper-midscale hotels charge in large parts of this country. For this price, here you get a bed that is as hard as it gets, a "sofa" without sides, where no one is sure how best to sit, a balcony where barely one can stand and a room that is so spacious that you are always colliding with someone else once you have discovered space for your suitcases. And then there was this bathroom that was above a flight of stairs, of such antique design and hygiene that you would be reminded of those shady hotel rooms of your youth! Our toilet seat was literally at an angle pointed upwards, so that you needed to literally jump out of it once done. The economy rooms were actually more spacious. Buildings such as these were not custom built as hotels but rather normal houses converted into hotels, or so it seemed. There was this lift where if more than 2 adults tried to fit you would feel suffocated. The housekeeping guys wear bright orange T shirts with walkie talkie and all but they could be anyone from the street and most had no clue of anything. Their complimentary breakfast would consist of essentially the same stuff everyday with cold, dry luchi (poori made of maida) fried in questionable oil that would likely give you an upset stomach and it did for us. The poha would be crispy and fried of left-over oil of kewra flavour (yes!). Although, the made-to-order food from the restaurant that we tried during our dinners was decent. But the dining area itself was swamped with mosquitos and the wash area was actually outside on a side alley! Anyway, after 2 days we were so glad to be out of this place and the town in general that has unfortunately degraded into one of those tourist hell-holes, which once carried so much promise.…

Very good service by each and every hotel staff. They serve with a smile and acknowledge your needs at the top priority. I have travelled at the year end and amidst of the 31st Dec and 1st Jan rush. I have made a special request to arrange a birthday party. They acknowledged and delivered a wonderful surprising Birthday Party amidst the rush hour. I would highly recommend to experience the stay.

Dirty rooms, dirty linens. Basic hygiene not maintained. We stayed here earlier. So we booked this hotel this time too. But standards have fallen below level. Front desk staffs are also not very cooperative. Not gonna visit here again.
Its been 12 years we are Regularly visiting Shantiniketan & for us Shantiniketan means only Hotel Royal Bengal. The only Hotel with the Best Hospitality, Best Facilities, Best Food with an endless list. The Staff Behaviour is just A-Class headed by their Manager Suraj Bagdas who takes every effort to make the Guest's Feel at Home.
Hotel Royal Bengal has been maintaining its brand since many years in Shantiniketan. And still in 2022, it's just awesome. Such a homely environment, such good hospitality by the staff and a lucious swimming pool makes it worth it. A perfect destination for Holiday's. Must visit!
