For the first time since Timothy Taylors took over this pub, we had a good meal and pleasant evening. The beer was good (somebody cleaning the pipes again?), the red wine served at room temperature by efficient and pleasant bar staff. The menu was simple fare as is true of many dales pubs, with a few notable exceptions. With a...

Thanks David P. We appreciate here at the Devonshire that all our efforts here are being noticed and that we are finally turning things around. We assure you that our focus is on the wonderful Timothy Taylors offerings and that our food is now going from strength to strength. We have a great new team and the new year is...

First impression was not good. Three people behind the bar whilst we waited to announce our arrival, all of them ignoring us. Once we got served things improved. The room we stayed in (No. E) looked like it had been recently refurbished and was well up to the job. Great position overlooking the square Breakfast was a laid back affair...

Hello Gadger68 We apologise for your first impression of us on arrival. You are correct in saying that the bedrooms have all been refurbished recently and are glad you found them "up to the job". Unfortunately we do have a problem with parking due to the age of the village. This is definitely worse depending on the time of day...

10 of us stayed for one night last weekend in 2 family rooms and one double. All three rooms were very spacious but felt cosy with the welcoming decor. The bathrooms were excellent, clean and very modern looking. We ate dinner in the restaurant and the food was excellent quality and the portions were massive. The steak and ale pie...

We stayed for our 35th wedding anniversary. Lovely big room overlooking the square with a good sized bathroom. Breakfast was good plenty of choice kept you going for the day. The village had a few powercuts while we were there, but still had a good time. Had evening meal in restaurant and again food and service was very good. Lovely...

We stayed here recently and the room was lovely. A large super king size bed which was very comfortable. The room was well appointed and very clean. What let the hotel down was the restaurant. We booked in for the first night and ordered a pie and a burger. After 45 minutes a pie and sausage and mash arrived. Informed...

Stayed at The Devonshire for a couple of nights and was pleasantly surprised by the standard of the room we were given. It was very clean, spacious, recently modernised and very well equipped. Whilst I'd eaten at The Devonshire before, on our stay this time the service was a bit poor when ordering dinner (had to wait nearly an hour...

Had a lovely stay and a beautiful room Breakfast was a great selection of pastries and juices. The cooked food was hot and of good quality, served by Ann who was pleasant. I forgot my toothbrush so maybe that could be included in the bathroom packs. I didn't really want to ask the staff for one (it says in the...

Family meal of 4 was sadly spoilt by a poor meal. The waitress was very indifferent in her approach. Steak & Ale pie was described as deep filled and accompanied by hand cut chips. It arrived looking awful. The smallest piece of pie I have ever seen, rock hard pastry and dried up meat with very few rock hard chips....

The occasion was Sunday lunchtime so with reasonable weather it would be fair to expect tourists / diners in that day, we arrived around 12.15 with only a few tables taken at that time, through only 1 person serving behind the bar and taking food orders the service at this juncture was slow. With the food order made we waited...

On check-in the staff was warm & welcoming, and our 3rd floor room overlooked the town's main square. It was spacious, airy and had a totally remodelled bathroom (though shower only). High quality toiletries supplied. The evening wait-staff were young and inexperienced but enthusiastic, and couldn't have tried harder to please our large group. Continental and full English breakfasts were...
